  • Kone might be ‘raw’ but he has attributes at present which are way above any other attacker in the squad. This lad will get better and everyone knows that. So you have to factor that in as a premium. In the current market I wouldn’t sell for under 10mill

  • Bordering on the ridiculous. 10m!! Reality check needed.

  • Ah, correct. It was more the idea that now the Kone money has come in we can BUY Morley - we may have tried to extend the loan, but not having the money isn't a factor in buying him.

  • Mehmeti?

You may be right that losing him will cost us promotion. Personally I don't think that's the case and hopefully he stays (and stays injury free) so we don't find out.

However, the loss of one player in a decent strong squad should not result in a rapid decline. It is a bit worrying for the future if it does.

  • selling him for 6mil plus will allow us to go get 2 or 3 upgrades you would think

  • Give it a break @prufrock_91 , we are all past that silly sniping now and you know it isn’t a fact so why stir things up again.

  • But we'd need to make move in our League squad to allow them in unless one of those upgrades is a Goalkeeper?

  • Looking at it from Kone's side, regardless of the transfer fee he doesn't have to go to Luton if he doesn't want to. If he is unhappy since Blooms left then I think that is the deciding factor.

I am surprised that none of the other relegation threatened Championship clubs have put in a bid.

  • This isn't silly sniping - it's a fact that he doesn't want to buy Morley? If he did, we'd have bought Morley. I was simply trying to lower expectations that if Kone goes, we'd suddenly buy AM.

If I was sniping, I'd reiterate that until it's proven to be a good decision - I won't forgive DD for letting Blooms leave.

  • DD? Danny DeVito?

  • I think there is right and wrong here and both views are worth exploring.

@prufrock_91 You are right, we've shown in this transfer window that there is funding available if we want to go for the right player. However, it has been decided that he isn't the right player. That reasoning hasn't been disclosed and it might be a case of another one that slipped through our fingers and what could have been. There might be a feeling from Rice et al. that because he was a Scott Mitchell signing, they don't want to be reminded that he made some good signings and prove they can do it themselves.

However, we had a player who performed really well for the club and made all of the right noises that he wanted to stay and see the season through to the end. Are we keeping his shirt number free? Who knows but until the transfer window slams shut, we can continue living in hope.

  • i mean if thats the case he didnt want to be reminded of a previous persons good recruitment then he should be sacked immediately. Going over old ground but there is no genuine football reason why he shouldnt have been signed, we know finances are not the issue (we have gone on to spend money). This is a deal that should of been sorted late nov/early december where noises were we could get him out for 500k or less, the fact we dawdled on the deal is incompetence. people will say they were asking too much but that is a issue of our making as he got more expensive with each win and every bolton midfield injury he got more expensive.

Completely agree with you @kipper. We know that Rice doesn't have any scope for sentiment but it's just something that we are just going to have live with now.

I was only trying to find reasons why we haven't. I know they are weak and unprofessional reasons but if someone came into a job with a different vision / direction they want to take the business in, they are going to want to do things their way, not the same it was before?

There are a number of factors we do not know about and some we do.

A loan was rejected - we know this.

Did we bid and get turned down - unknown.

Did we ask for asking price, found out it was way beyond our valuation and decided not to bid - unknown

Did Bolton say he's going nowhere when we made the loan offer - unknown

Evatt said publicly the loan did exactly what they wanted, perhaps through gritted teeth but that he was not going anywhere - known.

Morley was excellent for us, he may still get bought at the end of the window but I think it is highly unlikely due to Bolton not having a manager.

I would add if we do sign him, then well done Dan Rice and team, as it would clearly be a difficult one to get over the line.

  • Give it a fucking rest lads

  • I don’t know if you’ve noticed but football has become ridiculous.

An inevitable result of Sky’s ‘great for the game’ TV deal. It’s great for players, agents and sofa surfers because earnings and commissions go up, and there are more televised games than ever. But not so much for anyone else.

  • Could be a variety of reasons why we didn't meet the asking price for Morely, most likely being they decided finally they wanted to use him and were taking the piss on price. If that's the case, or even if he doesn't meet some secret criteria we won't suddenly pay £2.5m for him even if we got 6 for Kone, and we'd still need a striker and possibly to pay off someone else to make space. Now Evatt is gone and Morely is reintegrated that all seems like it went ages ago. Things do change though.

Very difficult to judge a fair fee for Kone so like most people I think we should just keep him until the summer. Ending the division as top scorer and celebrating promotion wouldn't do his prospects or valuation any harm and the need isn't what it was in recent years.

I like Dan Udoh, he's got a great first touch and links up well, I don't see him as a prolific front man though and suspect the fan base would be apoplectic if we sold Kone and took a chance on not replacing him.

  • And breathe

  • If Luton are offering £6m and Kone wants to go we should take their money and wish him all the best.

He only scored his first football league goal just over a year ago, it represents outstanding business.

  • I was being a bit ridiculous with 10m - when you consider potential add-ons, there's mad money to be made still

  • Altho Richard would do well to consider AAH’s time at Ipswich.

  • You have to back yourself as a player and take opportunities, odd timing with AAH with Ipswich going straight up but he's had his pay rise, he's had a promotion, he's played at a variety of places in the Prem and he's now on loan to West Brom, I'm not sure he's pining for AFC Wimbledon or our bench.

Whatever way we look at it, whatever we get for Kone is pure profit. I do wonder if we offered Newham Athletic a sell-on clause which will go a long way to helping that club for for several seasons! It would be similar money they'd get for a big FA Cup 3rd round fixture but without having a play a game!

  • £10m plus add on’s according to the noise on twitter. He’s off 😩

  • Where have you seen this? Yesterday it was being reported the fee was £6m. I can't imagine they'd have jumped to £10m overnight.

  • Yeah, wrong way round, linked with West Brom for ages, went to Stoke in the end.

  • It’s just speculation and noise when it comes to final fee. Just a quick search on Kone on twitter brings it up, make of it what you will.
