  • Never, in the history of association football, has a fanbase needed a game like we need this one.

    COME ON WYCOMBE!

  • I’ve looked at all the data.

Run deep analysis on all the new players.

Compiled statistical information on likely outcomes.

Result: Why the fuck does the Northampton town badge have a severed finger as the center piece?

  • Love a bit of line-up roulette. Which numbers will appear? Nobody knows!

If it didn’t already, this game definitely feels like the start of a brave new world. Let’s hope everything knits together nicely.

I went to the reverse fixture and Northampton were poor and it doesn’t seem like much has changed. After we’d gifted them their early goal, we largely controlled the game and they lacked any spark or invention until Fosu (Henry) came on and briefly threatened. COYB!

  • I don't think there will be too many alterations.

    Ravizzoli in goal

Either Grimmer or Kodua at right back

Low, if fit, Skura if not at centre back alongside Bradley.

    Harvie at left back.

Scowen, Leahy and Humphreys in middle.

Onyedinma, Kone, Lubala up-front (although McCleary/Udoh could be considered as alternatives).

    New players on bench.

  • I'm just praying Kone isn't absent "as he has a cold"........

  • Of all the new players, I could see Berry and Westergaard maybe as the favourites to possibly start, we're not going to spend a million euros on a player and leave him on the bench for long, and Anders (sorry I need to get to grips with his surname) will definitely be on the bench at least.

Strange times ! Not really knowing a bunch of the match day squad. But also, quite exciting in a way.

  • Especially if it’s in the Gavin Grant sense of the phrase…

  • Exciting game today! Looking forward to seeing new players.

  • I’m expecting some goals today. And maybe see Westergaard and maybe Berry at some point in the second half all things being well.

Although en route to AP so we’ll probably lose.

  • Just setting off myself in glorious sunshine, it's a beautiful day, if chilly, here in the East. Looking at the online ticket site, a fair few seats in the Frank Adams have been sold last night and this morning. I reckon it could be quite lively of the Terrace.

Hope we get to sing "Top of the League ...." or "Top of the League and we're having a laugh"

  • The centre of their badge shows a shoe and I read that 10 leading brands of men's shoes are still made there.

Which is more than can be said of the furniture trade in Wycombe. The nickname "Cobblers"

is therefore very apt. I have long wondered what might be suggested as an alternative to "Chairboys"?

  • I wonder how many football clubs would be allowed to keep their traditional nicknames if they had to use one reflecting their main contemporary export. Luton, for example, would have to change theirs to The Tommys.

  • That’s a shoe?!?

huh. Would have put money on it being a wrinkly finger and a deformed nail. I’m glad I’m not a betting man.

  • high wycombe was an important location for the Paper Industry long before furniture and early wwfc sides were known as the Ink-Men and occasionally “the Sheafboys”

  • Yep. My first few years we lived in Loudwater and I remember being in the car with Grandad and driving past the paper mill and the chocolate factory on London Road heading into town! Some old industries completely gone now that was once the fabric of the town.

  • James Berry must be the only signing who is fit enough to go straight into the 11. I’m not sure he will tho.

  • Quite possibly, when the teamsheet is released at 2pm, we will have the strongest ever bench in the club's history.

  • Yes, it's difficult to think of a nickname that indicates what the town is now known for. The "shopkeepers" perhaps in view of the number of supermarkets, but then that goes for allmost every town. I worked in the furniture trade for over 40 years, my father for even longer and his dad too for a time so I am very sad to see the trade almost gone. It is good to be known by a name that serves to remind everyone of what used to be.

Phil has posted that today would have been Bill Turnbull’s 69th birthday. How great would it be to hear Walking In A Turnbull Wonderland belted out during the game today.

  • Can anyone else think of a time when we've played the same team three times in a sesason, each with different kick-off times?

Sunderland in 21/22, if we're including playoffs

  • I don’t think I’ve ever seen anywhere with such a high concentration of estate agents as Wycombe, a rich cultural tradition that is still alive and thriving to this day.

Not sure how you’d spin that into a nickname though, “The Estate Boys” sounds like a hoolie crew, “The Agents” sounds like a town of 007s…

  • Just realised we've won 6 in a row with MB in charge

  • We could be the Dingles, in honour of the town's most (in)famous headteacher

  • Probably wll become fairly usual going forward with the LDAutoglassPizza cup games being 7pm and so many sky moves.

  • Quick question. I remember we adopted the nickname Chairboys around or just before the move to Adams Park.

We had been the ‘Blues’ for all of my 25+ years supporting us before then.

Was ‘Chairboys’ an earlier nickname that became modernised similar to when we ditched the quarters?

  • Hanlan starts and none of the new guys even in the squad, bit odd?
