Presumably he was the designated penalty taker? So hardly fair to say he's out of his depth in taking it. Sure he shanks it badly but did you see the misses from the Arsenal players yesterday? Wouldn't describe them as out of their depth.
It's strange to say, as he'll have earnt a lot financially. But joining a top of the championship team who then got promoted was an absolute disaster for him football wise.
Ideal move was probably upper league 1 bottom to mid championship team where he'd play regularly and develop.
I meant the misses from open play, several from inside the six yard box. Man Utd defenders helped but Arsenal really should have scored two or three from open play.
A fit Dom Gape made our whole team tick. Can do the simple break up a move with a tackle but is also capable of some great passing. If you can keep him fit you will have a hell of a signing.
And of course we all want you to stay up. Look after Gareth and Dobbo they are good people.
Pros: Never stops running. Always gives 100%. Great at breaking up play. Can occasionally pick a pass. Good leader
Cons: Nearly always injured over the last few years. Can be a little lightweight on the ball sometimes. Not the tallest, so won't be winning too many headers
If you can get him fit, he'll be a brilliant signing
Yeah a fit Dom Gape is superb, just not a common sighting over the last few years! A cult hero here at Wycombe for scoring the goal that got us promoted in 2018. Also produced an outside of the boot assist away at Luton once I still drool over. Great guy too.
I know he won't be here forever with us but we'll enjoy it while it lasts.
No idea how we managed to get him, was my choice when Hurst left.
Still seems surreal he is our manager. Funny game the links between our clubs now with you having Luke and Dan. Hope you clinch it unlike the media darlings Wrexham.
Some great examples of Ainsworth football in those highlights. The long ball for Bayo to pluck out of the air for Fred's goal. CMS not giving up on a lost cause. A comeback from 2-0 down. A last minute winner with 10 men. Truly the glory days
Gape is exactly the kind of signing (and bloke) you want in the team when you’re fighting to stay up. He’s not particularly bad on the ball but he is absolutely fantastic without it. Fantastic on second balls, which are vital to win in an Ainsworth setup. A leader as one of our ex ‘generals’ and certainly captain/vice captain material given time and if he stays fit. You’d be hard pushed to find a Wycombe fan with a negative view of Gape. He won’t shine in the top half of League 1 nowadays, but he’s obviously being signed to help you scrap and stay up. He’s ideal for that. Really hope he stays fit for you - that’s the main challenge.
By the way, Blackman had a great game last night, great to see a keeper come and collect the ball in the air. He was a great young prospect when he was with us and he looks to be loving life under Gaz after quite a chequered career to date.
As said before, I am convinced Gape would have been in line for the captaincy after JJ had things worked out for him to stay. A brilliant lad, and I would be ecstatic if he went to Salop and played well.

Apparently he took the ball off someone else to take the pen. Not out of his depth, but completely out of confidence and form by the look of it.
Not out of his depth taking a pen, but out of his depth at a PL club. Just rose too high too fast and his confidence must be shot to bits.
Those were saved weren't they?
Al Hamadi was about as wide of the target as you've ever seen someone paid to play football take one.

You can't compare lightening fast moves requiring quick reactions to a guy missing the target by a long way with a free shot from 18 yards.
18 yards
Jesus wept
He probably has, as he's missed 7 out of 13 penalties for Country, Man City and Arsenal.
Connor Parsons, Junior Morias, Josh Umerah all on the bench for Dagenham at Millwall. Umerah has come on, at 2-0 down Morias and Parsons might follow
McCarthy confirmed as a U21 professional development coach at Brighton, like someone said a few days ago.
That feels a surprise still, in a week of surprises!

best of luck Jason!
Gape missing tonight's Eastleigh game with injury. Hopefully nothing too serious, poor lad!
BBC Local suggesting he may be off to……Shrewsbury!
That would be great for him.
Salop fan in peace.
What's Dominic Gape like?
Hope you lot go up rather than Brum or Wrexham.
We love Gareth here already, what a guy!

Scored a worldie away to Barnsley too
Great result last night. Shrewsbury now my second team. However, I would have Gaz and Dobbo back at Wycombe and I hope we make them an offer.
Dom Gape is a great player at this level and as others have said, if you can keep him fit.
Good luck for the rest of the season 👍👍👍.
But for so many injuries he would have become a Championship standard player.
His goal v Scunthorpe at home was a worldie too
Was that the one where we went 2-0 down early on and won 3-2? Allsop got sent off?

Yes. CMS scored a last minute winner:

Yep, Gape if fit will definitely be a solid signing for Shrewsbury.
Assume he must have been ticking over well at Eastleigh to get the chance of a move back to league 1?
