Impressive record at Plymouth, harshly sacked at Stoke. Taken a team up from this division before.
I think if we appoint him, it'll make people get over the loss of Bloomfield easier. If we appoint some unknown to someone with a less than stellar record, there will still be a lot of trepidation about what's to come.
Schumacher won this league playing really attractive football with a similar system to ours. He also showed at Stoke that he wasn't afraid to eschew style for substance when it was really needed in the fight for survival. Harshly sacked there.
Schumacher is a great choice (why I voted for him), he's a young-un at 40, learnt his trade at Everton, then Bury & worked wonders at Plymouth to get them to the Championship, he moved to Stoke & kept them up, but as is ever the way in the cutthroat world of Stoke they chose to sack him after 2 wins out of 5 at the start of his second season.
Have any of these managers got experience of coming in mid-season at clubs who have had a superb start to the season but just hit a slight lull (4wins out of 10ish sort of fare) and going great guns?
Come on gasroom. I'd have at least thought @Wendoverman or @Kim_il_Swan would have pounced on this one with some sort of cheeky comment along the lines of "i hope Mr Rice doesn't just appoint someone cos he knows them and thinks they're a mint geezer" 😃
As basically our current stand in.... I thought Sam Grace came across very well in his pre Mansfield interview with Phil. Seems a thoroughly likeable bloke. Really interesting to hear he used to watch us at Adams Park as a lad too
The guys on the HP12 podcast mentioned the Liverpool under 21 boss, Barry Lewtas, I’m guessing we would have no chance getting him but could be exciting.
If it’s Holden, might be a few subscriptions being cancelled.
I'm really hoping we go for someone like Andy Woodman. Seems a top bloke and has worked wonders at Bromley. He has lots of experience having also been a coach at West Ham, Charlton, Newcastle, Arsenal and Palace.
He kept Whitehawk up, won the Fa Trophy with Bromley and finished 2nd in the National League before winning the play offs the following year. They are currently 12th in their first season in Lge2 punching way above their weight and took the lead at St James' Park in the Fa Cup. He is big into using data. I think he'd be a brilliant fit and the word that screams out to me is consistency.
Yes cue the comments, can he cut it at this level etc, but I think for some of the other names mentioned, one good season in lge1 can sometimes mask how good a coach you actually are longer term, hence seeing lots getting sacked quickly at their next clubs.
According to Fotmob, they have the lowest average possesion in L2, the lowest number of passes, they aren't brilliant defensively but they have a lot of crosses and a really high xG. So, Gazball?
Midblock, excellent counterpress, defensively solid but not parking the bus, explosive on the break. Perhaps not 'possession based' enough for DR and ML but who knows.
Agree. Andy Woodman is a top bloke but very old school. If he's 'big into using data' I suspect that he has an Assistant who is big into using data, which could also work at Wycombe. Dan Rice will know him from working together in Arsenal's academy so will know his strengths and weaknesses... I can't see us appointing him.

Schumacher? Wow. Not for me. Anyone explain why they want him?
Holden or Buckingham out of those names assuming Ainsworth won’t come back.
Maybe Dobbo may be interested?
You’d prefer Holden over Schumacher? DOFL
Schumacher for me.

Holden would be an awful appointment, his Bristol C performance alone should rule him out

If they look at that and go for Holden, I'd seriously question their data interpretation skills

Not sure where he fitted in at Charlton either but they have struck me for years now as having decent players but being miles off it in the league.
Can we just take a pause to appreciate the use of the word "eschew" there?

Correct, Holden is a fantastic coach who I think would work wonders with our team. He is also a phenomenal bloke who I personally know.

Or is that too specific?
What was so bad about his Bristol City record? He didn’t do badly there considering how bad his team were (1.44 points per game was his record).
Basically Des Buckingham with Oxford last season!

Surname matches our county. If that counts for anything?
It's not knowing him personally and knowing he's mint, but it's something
Schumacher or Buckingham
Here is the story from Des on Coaches' Voice... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vl8V_yEAmOM

Schumacher please all day long.

What's his football like?

on the subject of barry's how about barry richardson knows the club culture and would no doubt jump at the opportunity and is out of work
He's very old school, was Newcastle GK coach and others for years, I doubt he'd be in consideration tbh.
In positives though he absolutely hates Alan Sm*th.
Yeah, we won't be going for him!
Ohh, he's Freddie Woodman's dad

Barry from EastEnders about as likely
