Rice is calling all the shots. Doesn’t take a genius to work that out. He will have someone lined up already. Of course everyone is publicly all smiles.
Does anyone think Rice would have come to Wycombe if he didn’t have total control over the direction of travel?
True, but as a counter, they have had plenty of time to revise and improve his contract to make it harder (and more lucrative for Wycombe) for anyone to prise him away, especially once his name started getting linked with Champo clubs a couple of months back. They have never been helpless.
McKenna is an example higher up - once it became apparent he was linked with better jobs, Ipswich handed him a fat pay bump.
I don’t blame Blooms at all, Luton is a fantastic fit for him for all the reasons mentioned. He won’t ever be more than 6 weeks away from losing his job, but that’s the reality almost everywhere in football.
I also don’t blame the owners either. It’s perfectly understandable they’d want their own man running the show, particularly as they have spent, and continue to spend, serious money on the first team.
I don't think anyone's disputing his control, only his attitude towards having one of the up-and-coming young managers in the EFL as an asset. To be casual (if he is) about such a manager leaving when he has taken us into the auto places, screams hubris.
Blooms could be willing to leave because of the chance to manage in the Championship, with a decent squad that'll have a good crack at staying up, it's slightly closer to home, and he'll get a sweet pay-bump. It doesn't need to be a case that he's fallen out with the owners and wants to leave, but perhaps for Data Dan... it suits his forward vision too.
Again the strange thing is, if Blooms is doing so well his metrics are top of whatever database owners find new managers - hence why he's been linked to so many clubs... surely our own data-focused ownership team would feel the same way?
Way too balanced. The FB mob are calling for Blooms' 'Mr. Wycombe' title to be stripped immediately and him frogmarched to Kenilworth Road on hot polkas.
In other news, it is really sad. And while I agree you can't "blame the owners" to a degree, the question is: "is this really the best thing for all parties?!" I mean, now. At this time. We'll have to see, I guess.
Actually, scrap Angry German Kid, today is very much a day for that Downfall clip that was popular years ago. Hitler is informed that Bloomfield has gone to Luton.
Blooms knows Data Dan and the mysterious Eduard will fire him at the first sign of a wobble, so it makes sense that he takes the plunge and gets a decent, well paid contract.
Plus the warm glow of employers who actually want him around (for the time being).
That last sentence is a great question. @floyd's post is spot on about the owners having their own vision and having a right to do what they want, but my concern is that they have not been willing to pivot when it turns out they have such a manager on their hands. That is not good management, for me. Say they have a theory that Torsten NoNamesson is going to take us to the PL based on data. Well, that remains an untested theory, whereas there is actual data on what Blooms has achieved with us.
So again, they have every right, and I would be less concerned if we were below or in line with expectations, but if they are willing to let Blooms go after the half-season he has put in, I am concerned about the wisdom of their decisions going forward.
As much as Bloomfield has turned it around it’s just the way of the world. He’s done great, a final in the pizza cup, Wycombe top of League 1. Absolute legend of a player who gave his all for a very long time.
It’s a challenge that would be good for him but the owners are raising the stakes considerably.
Where’s the new stadium going to be though? Data Dan must have a new shiny place for us in the plan.
He'd go eventually anyway out of ambition, I am sure, and I agree that these things happen. I just don't think owners are usually so casual about hanging on to managerial assets. If Blooms is "meh" with the half-season he put in, are they expecting the new guy to win 16 in a row?
What I am saying is (to use an Americanism) it will stick in the craw a little to hear any further talk about ownership ambition if we don't go up this season, as they are risking bailing out on a miracle season.
I doubt they think he's 'meh'. It's likely a combination of differing visions and the lure of a better opportunity. Of course, it will get sensationalised to fuck on here.
It's worth saying that the advantage of detaching the Manager from recruitment is that there is now no reason this should derail our January plans (either ingoings or outgoings).

That surely will remain the all time worst.
Although it was a tidy effort letting them then buy out his clause just before selling him.
Thankfully we're a stronger negotiation outfit these days.

We'll soon find out if we have a new manager in situ for Saturday's game

OK. Zeit zu sehen, ob wir einen weiteren Dänen unter Vertrag genommen haben. BLOOMSFIELD IST NACH LUTON GEGANGEN

It is terrible sad though.

Einfach positiv denken, gleich wird Bloomfields Vertragsverlängerung auf Twitter angekündigt...
Let’s hope so.
Great day to be a Beaconsfield fan it has to be said.

I'm not overly concerned at this stage (I will be if half the squad end up following him to Luton).
The amount of rage depends on
1)Who we get as a replacement
2)How he does.
We're already on a fairly average run aren't we? About 4 wins from 10 or something like that? But that shows how amazing the previous run was.
It's worth saying that the advantage of detaching the Manager from recruitment is that there is now no reason this should derail our January plans (either ingoings or outgoings).
I think it's even more important for clubs at our level to operate that way as we're more likely to get our managers poached
Three days ago, Blooms smiling no issues with the leadership structure. That smile speaks a thousand words..... #notgoinganywhere.
Yeah I will be gutted if he leaves. But I’m still not overly convinced he’s off yet.
Sky Sports now reporting it as pretty much a done deal.
Was Gaz not pictured smiling after beating Bolton days before he left?
In a couple of hours we will re-examine that smile and realize it was a goodbye smile, with pain behind the eyes.
Source?
He was openly weeping. On the inside.
