  • Data driven is nothing new. Databases of footballers and their qualities have existed for decades. Suggesting MB and Rice are at odds in anyway is completely without foundation. Just because Scott Mitchell or his predecessors aren’t there saying ‘look at this lad’ doesn’t mean someone is. We are simply flagging up players that might be undervalued by in some way. When we signed Harvie it was on the basis he was not playing in a particular way at Franchise.

Evolution not revolution in my eyes.

  • Does the data all come from the same source?

  • If the deal goes through then Viborg are going to be on the phone to us every week. Buy somebody for X kroner and sell them to us for 10X kroner a year later. That's all the data they need.

  • Fingers crossed that the Dr doesn’t use data for Gasroomers my pun rate is way lower than last season. Although my making an obvious statement level is higher than average

And I set the bar for mentioning caramel wafers.

How much do we have to spend before some start to think the owners are backing Matt, or are these still signings he doesn't want?

  • Even the most belligerent gasroom poster would struggle to argue that doubling our all time transfer record twice in a week wasn't backing the manager.

  • I mean it's not if he didn't want to sign them.

  • And if at the same time he did want to sign Morley and wasn't given the funds to do so...

  • Shouldn't really need explaining should it?

  • Hopefully he will be. But that’s a different question to whether the manager is being backed.

  • Or backing a manager. Another thread has Blooms at 1/4 now for the Luton job 🤣

  • If the club wish to generate a better atmosphere in the ground, I'd suggest we stop signing players with names we can't sing/pronounce.

Maybe we could have our very own Dave Azpilicueta.

  • I have no problem with Data as a tool. I just hope there IS also a character test of some sort included in that research so that we end up with people who respect the manager and want to improve the club. Not just ambitious individuals looking for a way into the English game.

The two Scandinavians look like decent signings if they both go ahead and Bolton are playing games over Morley.

I'm hoping Dan and Matt are working together and rumours of discord are just the gasroom eating itself in the absence of any concrete ITKs.

One thing would put this all to bed...Blooms receiving a well-deserved extension with a glowing statement from the club about what an asset he is. That would be absolute proof all is (now) harmonious behind the scenes for those trying to parse out if x means y is backing z based on transfers.

As of right now, I can't even remember a nice thing said about Blooms (by name) from the new hierarchy, let alone an extension waved under his nose (happy to be proven wrong on the first, as I am sure I have missed some content and interviews). I absolutely 100% hope that changes on both counts and would be delighted if it does.

  • Cheers Micra, lots of water under the bridge since then! Good to hear the old gang is still together on the Gasroom. 🥂

  • Lots of water indeed. Talking of which I’ve just extended my 3.45 am pee break to one hour to catch up with hundreds of posts and also, fortuitously, to catch your message from sunny Ecuador. All the very best, mate.

  • done some digging, all the reports on westergaard are he's a proper player. Some championship clubs been sniffing around him but we have beaten them to the punch

  • Well said. For that matter I wouldn’t want a manager where the data said he was a master tactician and those who’d worked with him in the past said he was a sexual predator.

The problem with data as the only arbiter of competence is that can easily lead to moral relativism and eventually moral turpitude. The data undoubtedly shows Meta will be more profitable if it sucks up to Trump and bins off fact checking and content moderation.

  • This post hits the nail hard on the head.

We can analyse what Matt has said about control over transfer policy however we like, infer everything or nothing from now deleted tweets from family and choose to discard insight from sources at Beechdean Ice Cream. What is obvious however is that neither Matt nor his staff who were here under the Couhigs have been offered new longer more lucrative contracts, despite plenty of potential suitors being interested. Kone on the other hand has had an extension offered and signed. If they thought highly of Matt and wanted to keep him they’d have given him golden handcuffs.

Unfortunately it is clear that this is a marriage of convenience with neither party being in love. Despite the new owners having everything that they should ever want with a long serving club legend in charge who is over performing, an amazing man manager and tactician, they would prefer to have their own manager in place.

It’s a sad place to be despite being in the most healthy position we’ve ever been on the pitch, but that’s where our club is.

  • This.

When Matt leaves it will be for job security elsewhere because he doesn't have it here. Not because his relationship with the new hierarchy has broken down but because they want to go in a different direction. Yes, that sounds ridiculous when we're riding high in League One but if we weren't he wouldn't still be here. At least if he takes another, more lucrative, job he will have left on his own terms.

  • To be fair, we don’t hear a great deal from Rice. He’s certainly not a Rob Couhig, who clearly liked the sound of his own voice. Couhig gave Bloomfield any extension to his contract. I don’t know when that was to. Perhaps it was to the end of season 2026 which is nearly 18 months to go, so the hierarchy don’t feel it’s necessary to do anything yet. However , despite backing Bloomfield in recruiting new players, it would be reassuring to hear some positive noises about him from Rice.

  • The penny is starting to drop on other forums, Charlton in this particular case, that Wycombe have financial means to strengthen the squad based on our data driven decisions. And it’s beautiful to see. Good old Little Wycombe.

I’m hoping a long weekend of reflection for Lloyd Jones about where his future is at has led to some fruition for our recruitment team.

  • Do you have a link to the Charlton forum? Sounds like a good read.

  • Lloyd Jones’ AGENT has just posted this on X. The long goodbye? Might be reading too much into it, but it is weird that his agency is doing this

  • Agents do this all the time - big up their players.

  • I’m reading too much into it then. I need to get on with some work rather than trawling forums but this January window is rather addictive.

  • If his contract does run until the end of next season I'm not sure it is sensible to extend it now. What I would hope is that they have increased his current salary together with a very large bonus for achieving promotion.

How many managers last for more than two year (Gazza was a one off)? If Blooms doesn't like a data driven recruitment of players he isn't going to stay long term anyway.

The owners have made a clear decision on how our club is to be run and we have to accept it, particularly whilst it seems to be successful. All staff have to be on the same page to achieve the best outcome.
