personally I think this was one of the worst possible options, “unglamorous Championship club away” typically means straight out, with little to none of the elusive gold dust of “cup fever” generated.
Could still be Charlton of course but that’s not much better other than being more winnable on paper.
When we unexpectedly win the FA Cup and enter the Europa League, we will all look back and say it was a good thing we drew winnable ties in the early rounds, as the finishing trifecta of Man United, Man City and Liverpool took some doing to get past.
Channelling my inner Trevor, the absolute worst case scenario is we lose rubbishly in this game...Birmingham beat Newcastle, meaning Birmingham away becomes midweek, without us even having a 5th round game to look forward to :)
We do love instant gratification nowadays. Au contraire comrades, great draw but I hope it’s Preston - chip butties with gravy, cheap beer and disdain from complacent locals who watch on despair as Declan Skura gets a deflected winner deep in extra time . And hopefully no Tv buggering up our weekend fix. It’s 2001 all over again. Thanks to our Kazakh warlords and their ML schemes we have a squad bigger than Pep. Bring it on..
At least Preston away will rekindle memories of "that" goal by Hakan Hayrettin at Deepdale & also (for me anyway) the best performance I've ever seen from a Wycombe side - the 1994 3rd division playoff final at Wembley!
Charlton also play on Feb 11th so that would indicate a Saturday game or could we end up with the dreaded Friday night game, hopefully not at Preston if it’s a Friday night.
I've warmed to idea of Preston away. I think we could have a real go at that. Just the sort of game we thrive on. Worst case scenario, we lose and slip quietly out, but we've still had a great run.
Charlton I'm not so keen on. A difficult away tie against a team in the same division really is the worst kind of draw. Would be a big crowd and a match we'd take a large following to, but they're much improved in recent weeks and certainly had the better of us the other week. To get to the 4th round and then lose there would be gutting!

Mostly the PNE fans see it as meh but winnable.

We did beat Swansea away in the league cup though.
All it takes is them rotating just too much, like Portsmouth did, and we're on our game.
In fact like you suggest, Charlton could get through if they do the above in that tie!
Definitely a silver lining
That’s what I thought about Portsmouth!
Guaranteed even sillier kick off time on a Thursday at 6pm combined with only being on TV in..Denmark.

We can beat Preston or Charlton.
On the PNE forum they are talking about who they will get in the fifth round, a few years in the championship has gone to their heads.
Two Danes frantically looking at an england map at the moment …
we would think the same if we drew a leauge 2 side...uninspired draw...not surprised at all to be fair ...
A disturbing image!!
Great draw. Prefer Preston easy four hour drive good pubs cheap beer pies and chip butties, no mucking around with KO times, scrape a win

I think Bollocks away is a naval term

And the best part is we get another midweek home game 🙃
If it's Preston, they have Norwich away on the Tues 11th, which rules out the Sunday.
Your bollocks are in your navel? It gets worse!
Useful that Mansfield have a tough game this Tuesday while we put our feet up.
Hopefully ET too.
I do apologise for the duplication. The only person excited about the draw in South Bucks

It’s funny isn’t it. For some it’s memories of Hakan Heyrettin’s 80-yarder, for “others” it’s David Laws.
Where on the excite-o-ment metre will you be if Charlton win on Tuesday?

Here are the dates for further rounds for anyone thinking of organising trips or holidays

Come on Preston!
Friday night in Preston, I feel a song coming on
'Cheer up girls on benches' is a legendary Preston song from one well known gasroomer.
Grimsby, Wolves and Wimbledon were all championship so I’ll take this draw if PNE and happy cup memory at the valley
You need to keep your vest on,
On a Friday night in Preston.
