Agreed. Nothing to hold him to account for today but his inability to command the area is unquantifiable in terms of its ability to create unease in the defence.

I think the volume of set piece goals conceded attests to that.

  • Morely is done until at least the summer now, probably forever, move on, they'd riot if they sold him now. Any subsequent falling out will be seen as Evatts fault.

Taylor more possible, with two CBs on the bench for WBA and others injured, a new manager not appointed yet and other possible incomings they may have triggered the recall unnecessarily.

It's easy to dump on Hartridge, he put himself in that position and hasn't been good but he's probably 4th choice there now if that and we won't be flooded with offers. Taff more of a worry, can't be relied on and very likely to be on big money.

Let's not hammer everyone though, throwing baby out with the bathwater too easy, we probably won't get like for like replacement for Morely, need to keep plugging away and vary our play. Long bloody month.

  • He's not a handy squad player though. He's playing way above his level. He seems hugely error-prone defensively, and perhaps even more importantly for this Blooms system, he seems like a rabbit in the headlights when in possession. He's constantly over-hitting/under-hitting simple passes or playing balls straight to the opposition. Having him in the team is like playing with a bomb that could go off at any moment

  • See, much more measured! Fair enough if you think that.

  • Even constructive criticism on this board gets downticks. It's very weird.

  • It amounts to the same thing though. His performances for us have been consistently well under-par. He shouldn't be playing for us again

  • What did their equaliser actually go in off? It looked like it spun up horribly.

  • I think the absence of Wheeler and Taf from the squad says it all. Both will move on this window. Looking forward to seeing which 4 or 5 come in

  • Low was asking for handball from their guy, wasn't clear though and that ref was never giving anything, might have been just a fluky spin off him rather than any kind of shot.

  • No one has? No one booed him? I ‘suspect’ (as our original poster worded it) that you aren’t at the game again.

Read back. And you suspect wrong.

    "Again"?

  • The problem is if we are going to write off Butcher, Wheeler, Taf and now Taylor, Morely and possibly Low our squad is gutted. We need replacements at the start of the window not January 31st. As the window shuts we need to not be talking about what could have been. Tuesday is a massive game, we can let the FA cup slide (I would prefer not to) but come Mansfield away I would like to see us largely sorted.

  • Missed the game today so I can’t comment on any of the yellows, performances or goals.

With Hartridge whilst I’ll fully admit I’ve never been convinced by him and I prefer both Skura and Taff and I don’t think he is of the standard required to compete at the top of the league, what I would say is that the lad is human. He is still young and I can only imagine that even before today’s game he was probably lacking in confidence having had an underwhelming start to his career. I do trust MB’s judgement so I feel there probably is a good player in there which may well take time to come good, but we shouldn’t write him off just yet.

Football is a funny old game and In a weeks time we could be celebrating him scoring a winner in the FA Cup and earning us a big away tie with a great pay day!

Its worth remembering Steve Brown had a pretty crappy start with us and lots of us doubted O’Neill signing him after his initial displays.

    You must be new here.

For what it’s worth, some of you on here tend to view me as a negative poster. I thought we played well. We scored a penalty. We missed a big chance with Kone. Joe Low missed a huge chance too. That’s solid enough creativity for me, particularly when Humphreys had to drop deeper in build up play.

I would have taken a point at the moment Hartridge was sent off, so I am not overly displeased at full time despite the late goal. Hartridge shouldn’t have been playing in the first place - we’ve seen he isn’t capable for a promotion push in his ample appearances. Walking disaster. He had a poor first half and arguably should have been taken off at half time.

It doesn’t bother me because Bloomfield is already looking at a left footed defender in the Norwegian league (which has finished because their season is winter to winter). He’s also rumoured with the Villa left footer. Taylor could also return.

The obvious short term solution is Skura because Tafa is out of favour since he doesn’t suit the Bloomfield style.

Wheeler, Vokes, Butcher, Young and a variety of others don’t suit the new system either. All will go.

Bloomfield is making some excellent calls. His subs were great today, especially Kodua who has had two good showings off the bench in a row.

I think we are lacking a goalkeeper, a right back, a left centre half, a Morley replacement, arguably a left back and we still await the return of Sadlier. It’s going to be an incredibly busy January. My hope is that we don’t drop too many points in the meantime. I can’t consider an outcome where we don’t get three points today if Morley and Taylor start.

Tuesday is massive. I would much rather win Tuesday’s game than today’s. Let’s hope we can manage that. A loss there makes things very tricky for us for automatic promotion.

  • Such a shame the game was utterly wrecked by that red.

Woeful first challenge from Hartridge that was about a week late. Foolish to lunge in on the second, although the ref seemed happy to let it go as a mere foul initially.

Expecially galling as it came about a minute after our player was absolutely wiped out by a kick to the head that inexplicably wasn't even given as a foul, and utterly insanely wasn't stopped for a clear head injury.

Superb shut out job and cruel fate waited until it looked like we'd taken all the heat out of the game, dodgy defection job.

At least Huddersfield drew. Also a man sent off and our main Lonwijk off early. Don't wish him injury but missing our game will help a lot.

  • Home games Vs Huddersfield and Barnsley this month are absolutely huge, must-not-lose games.

  • Interesting to see how Humphreys was used today.

Tried him in the Morley role and a few little turns and nice touches aside it didn't really work.

Shifted it late 2nd half to be back where he's best, and it felt like he was having a growing impact before he cruelly had to be sacrificed.

At least he's rested for Tue!

Recalls are annoying but different to most movement, shame we couldn't get both to stay but that's part and parcel of the loan, we are better for having had them. People under contract won't be going anywhere unless they get better offers, either financial or playing time.

There won't be a cull. We certainly shouldn't be spending out on paying people off until we have replacements and that will take time. If we've heard already of two or three possible ins there will be many more we've enquired about or looked into and people maybe looking at our players but not necessarily the ones we want to go or the offers we'd like.

Unfortunately some of our squad players aren't really good enough for the first team but you don't get many clubs where you have got 20 first teamers, and they wouldn't all be happy if you did.

  • More proof I knows nothing. I thought Hartridge played quite well first half and the first yellow was harsh. Thought Exeter deserved a point...not sure Blackpool did but thems the breaks. I know it is 'professional' but messing about in the corner when you have a free kick in a dangerous position gets my goat. We needed another goal to take some pressure off...which duly did for us. Some very strange officiating in my opinion but that's also quite common I suppose. (Why did Low get a booking? just because their number three had a long chat with the ref?)

  • Till the sending off we were the marginally better side & definitely created the better chances; if only we had buried those to get the second or even third...

Once we were down to 10 I thought we defended manfully and still deserved to win the game but lady luck wasn't smiling on us.

I did think the failure to bolster the midfield was odd but presume the logic was "the best form of defence is attack".

Refreshing the front line was a good idea but why oh why do we play Hanlan up the middle? He’s a competent winger but Udoh looks much more effective as a front man.

A hugely frustrating game all round.

  • I think Udoh is the most natural understudy to Kone. His holdup play is fantastic and he's got a serious finish in his locker as we've seen.

Thought the first yellow was harsh?! He absolutely wiped the guy out having arrived late.

He's alright, he's sort of steady and can do the basics at a league 1 level. But the drop from Taylor is just upsetting.

In fairness to him he's barely had a look in or chance to get any rhythm going and he's suddenly starting a league game when most of us would have had him about 5th choice at best recently.

But he'll do well to get another league start.

  • Humphreys just got kicked in the head, the ref and linesman somehow missed both the fact it was a foul, and the nature of it being a head injury, and they had a break away.

Low pulled their man down to halt the play.
