"I won't change my overarching philosophy, it's who I am" is just a silly but of messaging to be drawn into and to keep going on about when most people just want your defenders to have a modicum of awareness of danger and get the ball gone when needed.
Well, Martin's next port of call will be illuminating, anyway. In my view, Southampton gave a ridiculous amount of points away this season based on piddling around at the back and gifting goals.
For me, a better example of a manager struggling against relegation who really is excellent is John Mousinho over at their rivals. Similar situation - got them up and then immediately up against it with poor recruitment, but he has them battling hard, playing well overall after a very rough start and the fans love him.
That does irk me, as it felt like putting himself in the shop window for "playing his style no matter what" was more important than, you know, trying to keep his employing club up.
I saw Burnley live a couple of times last season, and they competed and had teams on the back foot in more games than Southampton did at this point in the season I would imagine
Good news that he was on the bench today. I would presume that means that he will not be able to play for anyone apart from WBA or us for the rest of the season.
If they sign a couple more centre backs or the new manager doesn’t fancy him, it increases the chances of him coming back on loan before the end of Jan
West Bromwich is 6.5 miles from Birmingham city centre yet it is very much not Brummie. It is in the Black Country. The accent is different and yes they dislike each other.
Pub quiz time : The Hawthornes is also the highest ground above sea level in the 92.

Definitely a touch of the Postecoglous.

Hopefully, the Cup is an unwelcome distraction to Pompey's battle for survival!
Indeed! I hope they play a severely weakened side, though that would mean no Freddie Potts potentially, which would be a shame.
The three managers whose career arcs I am most eager to follow over the next few years are Mousinho and Sadler besides the obvious one.
Shev's going to tie himself in knots when at some point in the future Russell Martin gets the Wycombe manager's job
Perfect fit. He's got no Plan B you know.
I'll support whoever we get! I expect he'll be managing Barcelona first, though.
It's bayern who have recent history of rewarding failure when it comes to managerial appointments
Kompany hardly failed at Burnley and is clearly better suited to Bayern
relegated with 24 points showing similar levels of stubbornness to Martin

Way too early to judge his Bayern stint.
I thought he left before they went down, but apparently not. I don't think he was stubborn to Martin's extent.
So far so good

Time to put this thread to bed.
Hopes keep getting raised that it’s all been a horrible dream and he’s staying after all.
Taylor straight into the bench for West Brom today.
Well done!! Back on track.
With Bartley also on the bench, it's a shame they couldn't just do with what they have and let us have him a couple more weeks.
But I suppose they'd be slightly short.
Maybe they'll sign a defender or 2 though.

That was the case before today as he’s played for West Brom previously this season.
Us and West Brom conceded injury time goals with Caleb Taylor not playing for either side.
How do you say "wasted talent" in Brummie?
Sigh.
His record is average at best at each of his clubs in truth.

Every day a school day.
Did FGR overtake it when they were in the League?
So they claim.
Didn’t it used to be Oldham?
Thank you! No wonder the joke didn't land!
Shame for Caleb. Hopefully they sign a CB and send him back.
I can actually see this being the likely scenario now. I have more confidence in Caleb coming back than I do Morley now.
