  • The thing is when I hear ‘wide player’ I think Steve Guppy getting to the goal line and getting a cross in. We don’t employ wide players like that (nor do many teams in all fairness) we employ 2 wide strikers. Teams can play 5 at the back and allow their wing backs to cover our wide striker and swallow up the central guy with the 3 other defenders. Also the wide forward has to be good at tracking back to cover the wing back. I’m not sure what the data shows but I’m guessing against a back 4 we are more effective.

Anyway. No stand outs today, good or bad (Kone aside). 6/10 all round and the result showed.

  • Did Aaron Morley give any indication that he was staying?

  • Tough at the top. Unbeaten since 17th August and could be 3rd in a couple of hours.

Next 2 games are biggest of the season

  • Time to watch Shrewsbury now

  • Ah crap, I forget about Wrexham. Oh well, we have a game in hand and are generally better than them.

  • What a hugely frustrating watch. I had long hoped that when defeat finally came it was because of a moment of brilliance from the opposition or they simply looked too good. Instead we gave them two absolute gifts and created next to nothing. Credit to the way Charlton went after the game and their press was effective at preventing our quick releases for the most part.

Those that came into the starting line-up were not good enough today and MB took far too long to bring them off. Batkinson should have been pulled at half time for either Scowen or Leahy. McCleary had one of those days where from the first minute he went away from goal, rather than at it, which is never a good sign.

Back to a front three of Fred, Kone & Lubala/Kodua on NYD, with Scowen also back doing his thing in midfield, please.

Two wins in six. It’s not time to panic but we do need to find the winning habit again.

  • And here was me thinking I was the only person who didn’t think it was a penalty. I would have raging if that had been given against us

Ref wasn’t good, some strange decisions but he was up with play so trying to blame extra kebabs is laughable.

Bottom line is, today we were second best. The thing is not to let us get too down about it, even if we end the day in third place, but to restart again against Exeter

  • Not sure where the 'ref was fat' analysis came from, but it was absolutely a penalty - he just kicked him.

I was watching with family, none of whom support us, and they all thought it was a pen

  • It was a penalty

  • Wasn’t the ref originally the Fourth Official who had to come on after about 10mins? Even so not match fit for sure.

Watched Sky+ via Now for first (& last) time. Rubbish picture and even worse ‘commentary’ where do they find these people?

Just wasn’t our day. Had to happen some time. Regroup and go again.

  • He clapped the fans on his own for a very long time at the end. 2+2=5 maybe (hopefully).

  • Maybe the TV showed something different but the penalty shout was about 20 yards in front of me and it looked absolutely nailed on. I couldn’t believe he didn’t give it.

  • That would seem consistent with a ‘farewell’….

Really really don’t want to believe it. Other interpretations would help my mood.

  • No one mentioned Scowen’s underlap/overlap to generate the space for Kone to cut inside and score. Scowen made us the much better team when he came on. He has to start NYD if fit. Said it at the time, but I also would have rested our wingers away to Stevenage on 55 mins at 2-0 up. We looked leggy today first half against a side that were unchanged. Disappointed. Thought Lloyd Jones was absolutely magnificent for them and I’d be doing anything we can to sign him, especially if Taylor is recalled.

  • It won't last, I'm sure, but Huddersfield a goal down to Burton.

  • Very hard to judge but Taylor and Morley’s claps were dejected and elongated. Perhaps a goodbye. Perhaps just gutted with the result.

  • Probably a bit daft to be disappointed when we’ve lost our third league game and it’s after Christmas, but here i am, quite disappointed.

Tough to think of a month where recruitment and results will be as significant as January will be. I’m sure Blooms will be up to the task, and hopefully he’ll get the financial backing he needs.

He did put his shirt over his head as he walked away. 2+2=6?

  • If he does go there'd better be a spicy TikTok showing his worst passes with swanee whistles and fart noises.

  • Favourite takeaway from this is someone saying Kodua should start next game

  • Morley and Taylor openly wept as they went down the tunnel. The thought of leaving the Chairmetropolis for Bolton and Birmingham was too much for them

  • Every time I look on skysports, Orient are winning. 15 goals with 0 against in their last 6 games.

  • Peterborough continue their implosion. A moment of reflection for Swanny please

  • Kone 3 goals off the top of the L1 scoring charts and Barry has played his last game for Stockport 👀

  • Ffs another last minute goal for Wrexham!!!

  • But at least Birmingham and Huddersfield have only gained one point.

  • Very much collective off day all round. Dissapointing, but I guess we were always going to lose at some point.

Didn't see the penalty call, as the challenge was that late. Certainly Humphries should have had a free kick in the build up to the 2nd goal. So we were perhaps a bit unfortunate with a couple of decisions, but we were 2nd best today and the result was fair. Charlton was better than us 2nd half and we never really got going.

Big game now against Exeter on Wednesday.
