@glasshalfempty - I agree we don't want to lose Morley, but I think the point is that he is not the only great player available. We had a fantastic January last season. Scowen is a better player (for me) and we have gone WWDDWD without him, and those three draws should have been wins, to my mind. We have not looked as good, but still got the results.
I appreciate Morley's brilliance, but you'll get a migraine from the sky falling on your head mate!
I was wondering why I had a headache. I don't really go for should've-beens tbh. That's not how league tables work.
Aaron Morley isn't just a great player, he fits in this team and the way we want to play perfectly. He's at least a one in a 100, and I don't want to see us try and fit 99 others into a Morley-shaped hole, because they just won't fit.
If that were to be the case then something would tell him that he's not good enough for this level.
Besides the point, he didn't HAVE TO come to Wycombe did he? What if he decided against it? You don't know that MB said to him "I want you to be my main man this season".
The rule actually states that you can sign for 3 clubs in a season, but can only play for two of them. I wonder if someone (eg. Birmingham) would sign him and loan him back to us for the rest of the season?
The way Evatt has put out that message really tells us all we need to know about him. Bolton are well within their right to recall Morley - I've long assumed they would - but he's basically recalled him while publicly telling the lad he's not really wanted and up for sale. A more classy manager would've just said that he's being recalled and being brought back into the squad, whilst carrying out negotiations with WWFC in private behind closed doors.
I hope we sign Morley and I think there's a decent chance we will, but I wouldn't see it as a disaster if he goes go back to Bolton. With Scowen (still our best player in my opinion returning from injury) we'd still have a very strong midfield and that's before any signings we might make.
I think it's also there to protect players. Clubs could absolutely take the piss with terminating contracts if they knew the player could just go and play for someone else without restriction.
I trust the club's judgement on whether the fee requested is worth paying. After all, it's us that secured and benefited from the loan deal, with Bolton the ones stupid enough to lend him to a rival.
The question of relevance here is whether they have put a fair valuation on the player or asking for too much that would put us off. I have little doubt that Morley would rather sign here than return to Bolton under Evatt.
If the worst happens, we lose Morley and can't agree a fee, it'll be interesting to see if we move Scowen back to being the deepest player and play a bit differently, or whether we try and find the closest like for like version of Morley, be it in house in Bakinson, or another loan.
I suspect Evatt has gone too early with his comment, or it's just bargaining. Morley looks like he wants to stay and I suspect Evatt is happy for him to come here and has his eye on using that money on a replacement. He doesn't seem to fit their style of play and they have a big squad that's failing.
If we offer £5/600k now we get him but without going full Daniel Levy that might look very different in a few weeks time if we are the only takers and everyone is unsettled. Our results, their results, available alternatives on both sides all impact and there is sense to be found in the middle somewhere.
Evatt’s announcement confirms that Wycombe will be signing Aaron Morley permanently for a club record fee in January and we will be a joint club record 21 league games unbeaten when this happens. Merry Christmas mate!
Not only is Morley being discussed as if he's an all timer, but the suggestion he's the main man, in a team that has Harvie, Low, Scowen, Kone, Fred etc is a bit strong.
If the fee is any more than we can afford, we will walk away and find another loan player to replace Morley. Given his age, I think we should do everything we can to sign him but only if it makes sense financially. Losing him might give Bakinson the chance to kick on, as if he doesn't play much I fear we will lose him too.
Let's also remember that - the player has a say in this too. If he has recently become a father, his family will have a say on whether they move to Buckinghamshire.
If you look at his previous clubs - Manchester City, Rochdale, Bolton, and born in Bury - there's evidence there to suggest that he's very much "a nothern lad" and may have used this move to Wycombe purely to kickstart his career and achieve his goal of playing for Bolton regularly.
Weren't 3 of the 4 games against Birmingham, Wrexham and Bolton? With the 4th being a win? Not only is it a small sample size, it's against arguably 3 of the strongest clubs in the division.
Comments
Although from what Evatt says there will be no seeing out the loan. It's a sale or he stays with them.
Would that be the same recruitment system headed by Scott Mitchell? I wonder what he's up to now?

They could, but that'd be a really bizarre situation, to aid an automatic promotion rival like that?!

Even without "should haves" that is 12 points in 6 games, or 2 points per game, or 92 over the course of a season!

Points won with Aaron Morley in the team this season - 40 (PPG 2.5)
Points won without Aaron Morley in the team - 4 (PPG 1.0)
What are the points for every other player out of interest?
So sample sizes of 16 vs 4
Morley will have become prime Scholes by the time the decision on whether we buy him is decided.

Exactly. We're about to see how it extrapolates over a 46-game season.
I assume that's the same with Humphries, Taylor and Onyedinma. Possibly even Franco in goal.
Yes Morley is very good, but we're in the fortunate position of having several very good players.
Yeah, and Jakki Degg is going to propose to me on Christmas Day.
And how many of those lost points were with Hartridge in defence? And how does Humphreys compare? Anyone would think we play a 0-1-0 formation!
Well that’s never going to happen is it?
You said it mate.
That's it.

The opposition also matters, pointless ifs and maybe speculation anyway, sounds like Darragh and his mate from Talksport.
In all seriousness this is really good news. You don’t come out publicly like that if you’re not wanting to sell to Wycombe.

Bolton want to sell. We want to buy. I reckon we’ll figure it out.
