Aaron Morley

  • The goal was sublime. He made it look effortless yet it was technically a tricky attempt. What bemused me at the time was the Sky commentator saying how "easy" the chance was. As if it was a simple tap in.

  • Message to Dan Rice, please ask ML to let us buy Aaron Morley - what a brilliant Xmas present that would be. COYB!!!!!

  • It’ll be interesting to see what happens with Aaron in January. Will Evatt want him back now that he’s recovered his form or would his ego prevent that by Morley having proved him wrong? We desperately need reinforcements in January so would we prefer the money instead and would the lad actually want to come back to us anyway if he knows he doesn’t fit Evatt’s system? Would you actually want to pay for him and could we agree on a fee? There are so many questions but speaking honestly for the lads sake I’d hope he stays where he is because he’s obviously loving it there and with any luck Evatt will be gone soon anyway, the pressures building all the time and after yesterday and hopefully a kicking at your place on Friday it might just tip the balance. I hate writing that because I never want us to lose but the footballs so awful at the moment I think even die hards like me are resigned to the fact that it should happen sooner rather than later. ☹️

I wasn’t talking about Humphreys. The “gracious” comment was because you instantly downvoted a couple of my posts.

  • You worry a lot about down votes @micra , you should just rise above it kind sir. 👍

  • I can assure you I didn't. People really ought to get over the thumbs up/down thing. They mean nothing

  • We don’t have full details of the contract Aaron signed. However, I’m fairly certain the loan rules have changed this season. If I’m interpreting them correctly though I admit I might be completely of the mark and happy to be corrected. That said, my understanding is that unless there is an injury crisis in Bolton’s midfield, they cannot recall him without mutual agreement from all parties involved. This is, of course, subject to what is written in his contract.

In Section 6.6.3 of this season’s FA Handbook, it states the following regarding Long-Term Loan Transfers:

"A Player on Long-Term Loan may be recalled on any date from the beginning of the Loan until the agreed summer transfer window deadline, provided that the initial 28 days have elapsed, except in the case of a goalkeeper, and within the agreed winter transfer window, except for a goalkeeper or where the Player is to be transferred permanently by the Club (or club) holding his registered contract in each case, subject to the agreement of the loaning Club, the borrowing Club and the Player, which may be pre-agreed in a recall clause in the original Loan agreement."

If my understanding is correct, a recall would require the consent of all parties involved meaning Aaron would need to want to return, or a January recall clause would need to have been explicitly written into the terms of the original agreement.

Again, this is mostly speculation on my part, but I have attempted to fact-check to the best of my ability.

  • "...which may be pre-agreed in a recall clause in the original Loan agreement." - I reckon almost certain that that clause is in the contract.

Silly question, but does this mean we already have him until the end of Jan?

I'd probably assumed like most that his loan deal was until the end of Dec?

  • I’m afraid you’re very wrong there.

I have recently been in discussion (via the direct messaging facility) with someone who until a few weeks ago had been a regular poster on the Gasroom but has now stopped posting because he couldn’t fathom why he was so often getting downthumbed for innocuous comments very similar to comments by other people whose posts were not.

His mental health has suffered as a result - so much so that he was even contemplating having a break from following the Wanderers.

  • As someone who has 2.3k downvotes to 1.9k upvotes, I couldn't care less, it's water off a duck's back to me.

And as I'm now #1 in the score prediction table, I can look down with contempt at all those who downvoted my posts.

  • there is a pre-agreed recall clause in all our loan agreements.

  • That's a very sad story.

If it's possible, perhaps the facility should just be removed

  • I think the stats indicate your posts are like marmite!

  • I'm fairly certain he was signed on a season long loan in the first place? The general assumption has been that Bolton would recall him in January, since he's been the best midfielder in the league.

  • I agree. While some think it’s water off a ducks back, this just isn’t possible for everyone to have the same opinion. None of the mainstream online SM platforms show a downvote or dislike and it’s easy to say “get over it”, but for some it’s not that cut and dry. One of the biggest SM platforms has removed such tools as it was ruled as bullying.

In a World where mental health is becoming more and more prevalent in life there are people who do suffer from what others think is a very small when in fact it’s not small to them. If you think people should accept something small like a dislike, then maybe you need to read up on mental health and how things like that CAN affect someone.

“Man up” is also one other thing that is going in the bin, but very hard to explain to those that think that’s ok.

I’m no great fan of Facebook but I’ve long thought that a simple “like” button would be preferable on the Gasroom. After all, apart from trev and one or two others who strangely seem to have disappeared, we are essentially a positive bunch and I personally very rarely feel the need to hit the down thumb.

I omitted to mention earlier another reason why my Gasroom colleague decided to leave. He felt that he was getting negative comments and “get lost” messages in response to posts that were very similar to posts from fellow Gasroomers.

Ironically, his up to down ratio is vastly superior to mine.

  • Ah yes of course the 3 key loanees were all season jobs weren't they.

And now it's the limbo of will their clubs come a knocking.

So we only really need to consider buying Morley if Bolton suggest they want him back. Otherwise there's not the immediate need. Although obviously it'd be much better to snap him up if possible.

  • In the past I have laid claim many times (unsuccessfully) to be designated Gasroom marmite but @bargepole’s arrival and a concurrent improvement in my up/down ratio put paid to that.

I am a self-confessed sensitive soul; it looks like @bargepole may have thicker skin and his marmite status is probably beyond dispute.

In reality a lot of your down votes were because you kept mentioning them. It became a sort of injoke. Not just for you either, others mentioning them got the downs too.

The more reasonable posters stopped doing it when realising it had become something that upset you.

Not true! Every thumbs up I get is a sign of my comedic genius and every thumbs down is some bien pensant moron mong nincompoop who objects to being shocked out of their bourgeois complacency.

    oh oh......

  • I've noticed on other forums that you can like someone's post ( and it tells you who) but can't dislike, a bit like Facebook as @micra said. This probably would be a better option.

I'll admit I was like others who have said it doesn't matter just ignore it, I'm pretty thick skinned so don't care, but seeing stories like @micra has told us makes me think again, as that's just sad and I'd never want to do or make someone feel like that.

  • I’m on another hobbyist site where individual users have an option to see likes or not.

I turned them off years ago and have stopped worrying about them.

  • The 👍👎is just a barometer for the way a comment has trended, nothing more and nothing to get het up about (most of us on here grew up in the hard knocks of the 20th century didn’t we where a thumb was the least of our playground worries?). Apart from the two or three usual suspects who will predictably break cover with a contrary opinion to the ones I express The Gasroom has to be one of the most civil environments I enjoy on ‘tinternet.

  • This is tough to read. His opinions are just as valid as anyone else’s and his support of the Chairboys is as valuable as anyone else’s. Please encourage him to continue supporting the team even if he doesn’t want to continue posting here. @eric_plant is right (ugh), downvotes really are meaningless, as he has illustrated himself in very similar posts receiving very different thumbs.

  • Think that post is missing the word "always"
