Are we going to get this nonsense each time a manager is sacked throughout the season ?. Matt Bloomfield is going nowhere. he is committed to this club, Through his hard work with a club he loves and results going his way he not going leave the club in our position for a few dollars more.. Matt is a class act and will be with us to the end of this season at least.
Never say never and we've got history of our past managers making that step up to the Premier League straight from Wycombe. John Gregory, Lawrie Sanchez, Martin O'Neil, Paul Lambert* have all gone onto the Premier League. Its not unheard of and Matt's stock is ever increasing, he's playing the right style, tempo & tactics where it might be only just a matter of time before one of the chairmen/owners have a good look at him.
Gareth prob wasn't looked at too seriously because his face & style would never have fitted in the modern-day PL & prob didn't sit well with the chairmen or owners....
His plus points would be that his wages & demands will probably be lower / less demanding than a more experienced manager and the cost to bring in Richard & Lee would be much cheaper / less hassle than getting a full coaching set-up that other experienced managers have
*I'm aware that Lambert went to Colchester for 9 months before then going onto Norwich but that is still a League 1 to Preimer League move
Neither O'Neill nor Sanchez went from Wycombe to the Prem (O'Neill went to Norwich in the second tier, Sanchez took a break then took the NI job). Gregory yes, but that was the best part of 30 years ago! Different times.
I understand where you are coming from. However, a move to a club in divisions higher is a promotion to everyone in football. There will come a time where Matt's head will be turned.
In everyday life, would you seriously turn down a new job, in your field, at a more successful company for a much higher wage etc?
Clearly the Gregory straight to Villa move was mostly to do with being a big part of their backroom staff previously, rather than all about the job he'd done at Wycombe!
The most likely scenario to Blooms voluntarily leaving would be us failing to go up, Ipswich being relegated and McKenna leaving. Even then, it is a huge assumption that Ipswich have their eye on Blooms as the replacement.
The time to worry will be next season when, after taking us up, we look like we’re staying up. Then he’ll really be on everyone’s radar and rightly so.
I agree. That’s the focus. Any other season I would say it was likely to be frustratingly attritional because only Exeter have conceded fewer goals than Mansfield but I think they have only scored more than 2 goals a couple of times this season. With our average of 2.5 goals per game and with what I like to think of as home advantage, we should have sufficient fire power to scrape a narrow win.

Whilst mrs micra was watching some goddam awful programme about “Queen” Camilla (who she always refers to as “that old slapper”) I read Matty B’s article about his approach to coaching and onfield choreography for which @glasshalfempty provided a link on the eponymous (?) thread.
Well worth a read. I found myself thinking that our current squad must be extremely bright to have assimilated with such spectacular success (such aplomb) all the principles and flexibilities that he aims to instil in them.
I found it mind boggling and it set me wondering to what extent (if any) Gareth’s approach followed a similar pattern. My guess is that it was very different and that the difference probably goes a long way towards explaining the slowness of the transition from Gazball to Bloomball.
Someone mentioned Blooms will end up at England, and I think we can nail down a timeline now.
26/27: Promotion to PL with Wycombe
29/30: After establishing Wycombe as a constant PL presence and winning the FA Cup and Europa League, England come calling.
2034: After sixty-eight years of hurt has made the old song an absolute mouthful, England are finally guided to the World Cup trophy by the unerring genius of the soon-to-be Sir Matthew Bloomfield.
