Blooms says he hasn't heard anything from Coventry or the club. He says it's nice to be linked, but it's all about the players: if the players are playing well, you get linked with jobs higher up the leagues; if they're not, then you get tipped for the sack.
He is then asked about the Scott Mitchell departure and says, I thought quite diplomatically, that Mitchell did a great job, but the club has decided to go in a different, data-led direction. He might not be pleased but there was no public display of dissent.
Also, excellent work from Sam Avery, to ask the questions that @bluntphil is no longer allowed to ask.
Clearly very unhappy about the Mitchell decision and rather worrying said “ it’s lovely to be linked with jobs up the food chain”. Will the decision regarding Mitchell , make him more open to offers?
Here is what he said near enough….. The club is going in a different direction. We are going data led and he did an incredible job for our football club in the 18 months. He left a very secure position at Ipswich Town to follow me and believe in what I wanted to do last summer and I can’t thank him enough for what he’s contributed. He was not a close friend before we worked together even though I’d known him for a long time. But from working together we speak every day on the phone discussing players and transfer window and disappointing to lose an incredible guy who did a great job for us but club is heading in a different direction and that is the decision that has been made
That really jarred by the sound of it. Left a sour (Sauer?) taste.
Please note. In no way is that bracketed name to be construed as anything other than an opportunity to make a feeble pronunciation based pun. I honestly don’t even know what role the gentleman has in the new setup. But I could feel Matt’s pain and I’m sure most of us would be able to.
In summary he did a good job but now the club is going another way. In my opinion that is all we need to know. I don’t think we need to know any more about what happened as that is personal to Scott.
Let's hope the club know what they're doing with that decision and it doesn't derail anything. As we've had a start beyond even the most overly optimistic / deluded fan's wildest thoughts on how this season could go!
Rob Couhig knew Gaz (then Blooms) had forgotten more about football than he'd ever know, he provided money where he could and only chipped in on the football side if he really thought it needed it. I'm sure he and Pete discussed football matters but only to support.
That is very rare in football these days and clearly not how ML sees life, he's put a team in, high profile appointments, key men with a vision, and they are building a setup and a basis to move on for years to come. I have zero insider knowledge but if Mitchell didn't buy into that vision he was never going to be their long term head of recruitment.
Like everyone I hope Blooms can get past this and it doesn't derail us.
As long as sacking high performing recruitment staff at the first opportunity does not become sacking high performing managers at the first opportunity, we have to live with it.
I just genuinely wish Scott Mitchell all the best, as I think he did great things for us. I hope he lands a plum job.
Which is understandable when you take into account of the size of business he runs. He obviously has faith in Dan Rice to run the show on his behalf.
I really didn’t know Scott Mitchell but I wish him well and I sincerely hope Dan has made the right move, although I have no reason at all to doubt him.
Bloomfield although diplomatic in his response, is clearly not best pleased at the sacking of Mitchell. The transfer activity since Mitchell has been in the club is good , looking at both the loanees and new players brought in. Not really sure what the ‘ new’ data led recruitment means because in any recruitment of new players, Mitchell must have not only watched players but looked at some data!!. Has he fallen out / disagreed with Rice on the way forward and that’s the reason for his sacking. Who is doing the recruitment now, especially with the January transfer window around the corner? How is the relationship between Rice and Bloomfield? Interesting times.
Interesting times indeed but also a counterintuitively troubling moment or two in the midst of an incredibly successful run of results at any level let alone in the third tier of English football.
Let’s hope that, in the wider context, this will prove to have been little more than a glitch and that our owners really do appreciate the vital importance of keeping Matt at the club. In purely monetary terms and on the assumption (a big one admittedly) that he is capable of getting us to into the Championship, he must be worth upwards of half a million per annum.

Thank you all. Not great is it?

I agree with this. And I assume Blooms was slightly embarrassed by his brothers intervention on X this week.

I don’t think ML does the hiring and firing.
No, he's picked people to do so on his behalf and left them to it.

Never heard anything about Coventry interest? Does Blooms not read the Gasroom?
I thought he came across pretty diplomatic, but those last 8 words can be read many ways. Certainly sounds like Blooms wasn’t consulted.

COYB!!!!!!
Well I’ve never heard him change the subject of a conversation halfway through or come up with a herb based pun so no maybe not,
worrying thymes.
A very sage point
He’ll rue the day if he goes to Coventry.
Even worse if you play the interview backwards. At one point you can vaguely hear
Satan is Lord. I'm off to Coventry. Take drugs, Take drugs.
At least he'll be minted
Hopefully this will be resolved this Cumin week. Could flavour what sort of season we will enjoy.
Could this be the reason, I wonder, why Matt is exciting such interest ?
Just asking !
My mind went blank.

Since my somewhat flippant reference last night to Jeremy Sauer I have educated myself with this impressive interview.

But we will be stuffed

Three cheers for Micra, ‘counterintuitively’ has to be word of the day!
I don't think we actually need any players in January, we have a great large squad doing the business.
