Having relocated to the terrace for a game, were any of those chances in that mad last couple of mins decent? As it was really hard to judge from the terrace?

  • York did a great job of quickly dispatching errors we made.

Felt we could've scored more, but the nature of the game meant we overplayed a bit and tried to be too cute.

Bakinson controlled it well, and both Jasper and Leahy had good games

  • Hartridge is far from good enough for this system. Pattenden makes me so nervous yet rarely puts a foot wrong to be fair. Thought Skura and Leahy struggled. Scowen was the best player on the pitch again. Lubala put in a good shift with little end product. Butcher and Bakinson too many misplaced passes. It was a scrappy performance but we got the job done.

  • Far from good enough is a bit harsh in my opinion @thecatwwfc . He made a couple of mistakes...but so did a few of the others to be fair. They were snapping at our heels and some of the decision making was a bit languid...midfield had to make a lot of recovery tackles as well after losing the ball. I thought Skura was solid. But as I said I thought Leahy was a bit off...an opinion which is probably far from good enough 😄

  • We made a load of changes and had long spells looking comfortable. York to their credit didn't give up, pouncing on some dodgy defending and truth be told the result flatters them a bit. Anyone seeing that score-line will think it was a close roller coaster of a game, when it wasn't really.

However, job done and huge week ahead to see what we're made of with back to back northern aways.

  • Walloped us by one goal…half term done back to school on Monday kiddo

  • Ah yep. A footy classic. Back to school for me. Enjoy point scoring on our forum mate x

  • An entertaining game and the right result as far as Wycombe were concerned.

In truth we ought to have scored more - our finishing wasn't sharp enough. Credit to York who made a game of it - glad the misplaced back header didn't go in as I think if they'd scored then they might have forced extra time.

Minutes in players who haven't featured much, the return of Hanlan, a win and seemingly no injuries picked up. An excellent days work.

  • I had expected Captain Jack to join Phil on comms today. I always like it when he’s behind the mic.

  • We certainly didn’t wallop you, @Noddy_1922 but, with 10 changes from our starting lineup for last Saturday’s match against Orient, I thought, listening to the WanderersTV audio only commentary, that we did pretty well against a club that is sitting proudly at the top of the National League.

Good luck for the rest of the season.

  • Yep, getting through the classic banana skin game against a non league club going well, whilst still totally resting 8 of the definite starters midweek, and being able to manage minutes for Scowen, Kone/Udoh and Humphreys was pretty spot on.

Glad to see McCarthy get on the pitch. A shame he's not really getting a look in, but it happens in football, when a decent length serving player becomes marginalised.

It happened to Kashket a few years ago, and has to when the quality goes up.

  • I’m not sure the result was ever in doubt apart from about 45 seconds at the end. Best of luck to York for the rest of the season, but I hope @Noddy_1922 stubs his toe.

  • Today was our fourth 3-2 scoreline of the season - 2 victories and 2 defeats.

Wonder what the record is for the most number of 3-2 scorelines involving the same team, in the same season (very obscure statistic!)

  • For anybody who is interested, the FA Cup highlights show is on tomorrow evening. Match of the Day 1815 - 2000 on BBC2

McCarthy didn't do himself any favours after coming on. Pattenden had a really good 80mins and showed why he is second choice right back. To be honest I thought Skura was solid and performed better than Hartridge who was shaky at times.

Decent showings from Kodua and Bakinson today. Hope the Kodua injury isn't serious. Great to see Hanlan back and he looked quick. Onwards!

  • Albeit against a knackered Conference defence, Hanlan did look sharp and v quick. That'll be helpful moving forward, as I don't think he'll start, but pace is always handy

  • That was a very enjoyable game. Fun to be on the terrace for a change. York were decent although our profligate finishing meant the score flattered them. The squad is ridiculously strong

  • Job done, so pleased to see Brandon back out there and thought it was a very watchable game.

As someone who doesn’t get to see us in the flesh that often these days, watching such a freescoring team with so many attacking options still feels pretty surreal!

Hope Kodua is ok too, thought he did well today and is developing all the time, but he looked quite concerned.

  • Also, I've seen us play games against poorer opposition and not know what to do with the ball. We kept possession very well today, and only let them score when we made ridiculous individual sloppy passes

  • Just a verse and the chorus was enough of an assault on my ears.

  • Loved it at 3-1 down when the plucky non-leaguers started singing “we are top of the league, we are top of the league” irrefutable irreverent, inspired.

  • Interesting thought. We had 8 scorelines of 3-2 in 17/18 (all in the league) so we are well on pace for that. That was our highest ever scoring league season, so I would expect that total to be up there for the most.

  • Since we moved to Adams Park in 1990 and were still in the Conference, York City have had a higher average attendance than Wycombe Wanderers for a grand total of two of those seasons (when we were circling the drain out at the bottom of League 2 between 2013 and 2015 while you were having your most successful period in the last 20 or so years).

Our attendances have been disappointing this season but it was still a bizarre comment from the commentator that hasn't been true since the 80s when we'd not long got out of the Isthmian League.

  • After just 5 seconds it would not have been out of place if the whole of the terrace had chanted "You're not singing anymore".

  • It was very much an Ainsworth ‘never say die’ attitude that was the foundation for our squad - so it doesn’t surprise me that we had so many that season. I’m sure most fans would prefer a more comfortable result but as long as we are on the right side of the score line, I’d be happy with 3-2 every week.

  • Half time karaoke. Unless it’s Lionel Ritchie at Adams Park, it’s a “no” from me.

  • York played quite nicely from the back at times. Once or twice they got round the press and surged forward in numbers. Great finish for their first goal.

Defensively they looked wide open though. Such a high line and not much pressure on the ball. It was a bit odd to watch.

Their keeper also seemed remarkably small. Made one good stop. But Kodua seemed to have so much of the goal to hit due to the keeper being so short.

  • Maybe a little harsh, but it's reality. Compared to Taylor, Low, Taff, Skura - he is 5th choice. So based on that, he is nowhere near good enough to start. I said it the first time I saw him play - he looks very shaky and is so slow to move the ball on given how we are trying to play. He puts others in precarious situations by misplacing badly weighted passes, which for a centre back is not good enough. He is a fringe player at the most, and decent enough to have as back up.

I think Leahy got MOM if I heard the stadium announcers' message correctly. Was he a new/stand in stadium announcer? He seems like he has had charisma bypass surgery.
