Um, I have just seen that Stockport County have had three players called up for international duty. They are Ibou Touray, Lewis Fiorini and Tayo Adaramola. I suspect Stockport County will have applied to the EFL to have our game postponed.
FYI, it's almost certain Huddersfield will have players called up for the Fixtures in November, so expect the home game on 16th November to be postponed too.
Just had a browse of a Stockport forum (it’s an absolute eyesore and makes me thankful for the wonders of the Gasroom). According to their forum and their local football journalist, they can only request a postponement if Lewis Fiorini starts for them on Saturday. No idea how accurate that is though
Bit of a minefield this as eligible players for international call-offs must have played three games out of last five (excluding EFL Trophy) according to EFL guidelines. So Fiorini and Adaramlola would not meet this criteria by virtue of not having been at the club for five games. These are guidelines only so I suspect Stockport will be able to get the game called off if they want to. They might however want to play it. I'm not sure Saturday appearances make too much difference.
I see no reason, from my understanding of the guidelines then, why Stockport can’t get the game called off now. I suspect it will be called off tomorrow if it’s going to be. It wouldn’t surprise me though, given Stockport’s form and quality of their Saturday crowds, should they wish to play the match.
Assume it doesn't matter which team for? Because didn't our last international weekend game get called off because our opponents had signed a guy a few days before who became their 3rd international player?
cant quite remember Mansfield example but their third international player, from memory, had yet to even play for the club so EFL are quite flexible on their own guidelines.
Stockport County are more likely to request a postponement as Ibou Touray and Tayo Adaramola are both left-backs / left wing-backs. Ryan Rydel is also a left wing-back but is currently recovering from an ACL, which leaves them with none.
I still suspect they will be only inconvenienced by one absentee of their regular starting eleven and may opt to play the match … especially as we are quite late in proceedings. I’ve had a look on their ticket website and it appears ticket sales are very healthy.
As an U21 player he has to start 3 of the last five games in any competition. He's already started 2 so if he starts tomorrow then we know our game is off.
He unexpectedly started the game on Tuesday night having only been involved for 43mins of Stockport's seven other league games this season. He also started the Football League Trophy game two weeks ago, his first involvement for them all season.
Don’t know who “he” is but it does seem like Stockport are pulling out all the stops to get next Saturday’s match moved to a midweek evening which would arguably tip the balance in their favour.
Psychologically though, that could have a very positive effect on the motivation of a squad that is already showing signs, after a season or so of uncertainty, of having inherited the never say die attitude that was such a key factor during Gareth Ainsworth’s reign.
Fiorini starts for Stockport today. Assuming no warm up injury, Stockport will be able to request a postponement. I’d guess this one doesn’t go ahead next weekend then!
Comments
Joe Low hasn’t been called up to the Wales under-21’s next week.
Hope that doesn’t mean he’s injured
I wondered that too. He's been playing so well recently it's a surprise he;'s not in either squad.
Maybe he turned down the chance to play ahead of playing for Wycombe?
Given he played on Tuesday night and experienced no obvious injury it would be a surprise if there was an immediate withdrawal due to injury.

Selfishly, I hope they have - would mean I can get there as I’m busy next Saturday. However, appreciate that’s an incredibly selfish POV!
11, 4 & 3 appearances so far. Suspect this will be off - FFS.
One of my sons remaining grounds…
let’s hope not
.
Am half hour or so away from Stockport for work on the Friday and had considered staying over for the game.
Lucky escape not booking that up.

Lewis Fiorini and Tayo Adaramola have both each played three (or more) of Stockport County’s last five matches.

Ah, cross post...had posed a similar question.

A couple of interesting posts from the Stockport perspective. Evidently this Fiorini chap starting on Saturday may be the giveaway.
Lewis Fiorini has been called up to the Scotland under-21 squad, therefore already qualifies.
absolute shambles, this is league 1 ffs ...FA can't arrange a piss up in a brewery
He doesn't have to have satisfied the criteria in the tweet?
Ah, I was thinking playing three games was key, rather than the five, or both. I guess we'll find out in the next 24-48 hours.
What’s it got to do with the FA?
allowing these stupid rules in the 1st place , this is league 1 and predominantly it's either u21 teams...give other players a chance
That’ll be the EFL not the FA
