'The seven English clubs involved in European competitions this season, including holders Liverpool, enter at the third-round stage.
Ties will take place on weeks commencing 16 and 23 September.
Because there are rounds of Champions League and Europa League fixtures also scheduled for those two midweeks, the six clubs involved in those competitions - Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Tottenham and Manchester United - will be kept apart to ensure they can fulfil their Carabao Cup tie in the alternate midweek to their European fixture.
Those six clubs took part in a pre-draw before Forest v Newcastle to decide if they will be at home or away in the third round, with a main draw determining the 16 ties.
Should Chelsea progress to the next phase of the Conference League, they will not be in action in that competition again until the start of October.'
Watching a game with no commentary is more relaxing. Their attacks were plentiful but rarely effective. One header back across the face of goal when it should be on target was the most serious attack. Zero shots on target. 71% possession. That’s a Wycombe performance.
And as we’ve seen before give Kone a sniff he will invariably score.
Really enjoyed tonight, love getting to watch the Blues whatever end I'm in. Saw a chap from Micklefield in the Swans West Stand too! Very impressed by the team performance although the Swans were pretty poor and brough on most of their first teamers second half, but to cope with Ronald Wycombe did well.
Great draw. Big opportunity to build a buzz around the town and get a good crowd in. And a chance of an upset with Villa no doubt distracted by the CL...
The extended CL and Second level euro trophies are on alternate weeks, so if they drew each other there would be no available week to play. I suppose the CL clubs could have played each other though, so it is a bit strange.
My first team at home to my second team again - just like 2003, 2005 and 2016. Would love to see a different result this time. In competitive matches I think we've scored four and conceded sixteen. I presume Villa will play a second XI but these days that still means a team stuffed full of internationals.
There are Champions League games during w/c 16th September and Europa League during w/c 23rd September so for this round, they couldn't draw them against eachother to avoid clashes. As Villa are in the Champions League this year, I would guess this means our game will be during the w/c 23rd September?
If Martinez plays will that be the first time a world cup winner will have played at Adams Park? (thinking out loud and as I do I'm wondering about ex Chelsea players)
Having just had a conversation with a mate and surprised to discover the attendance for the 8-3 League Cup defeat to Aston Villa in September 2005 was 5,365.

Surely nobody scores four against Blackpool.
Are Sky taking the piss with this draw or something? It was meant to start at 10.15pm I thought?
Another set of adverts yet…I really hate Sky at times.

Ronald, I’d rather have Gideon!!!!!

Wycombe at home to Aston Villa
Villa again
We must have played Villa more than everyone else in the premier league combined.
Not bad. Shame to get a fixture we've had before though.
8-3 incoming.
Great draw. Big opportunity to build a buzz around the town and get a good crowd in. And a chance of an upset with Villa no doubt distracted by the CL...
Whoever thought that format up needs a slap. As does whoever decided to make the draw so late.
Feels like we've got the least sexy of the sexy draws but we'd have all taken a prem team in the 3rd round for certain.
I missed the bit where they explained why we have to draw the euro teams first and why they can’t play eachother.
Pretty sure this has to be the week of the 23rd, as the CL games are the week before. Woohoo!
Good draw that! Would've been nice to get a team we've not played several times, but don't think we can really complain.
Pleased with that. A very good opponent. They will bring a good crowd. A free hit.

Oh, I hadn’t clicked that the European games were also alternate weeks. What a mess!
I think it may just be this round, not sure, but it definitely caused this nonsense!

The new CL format is preposterous.

The CL is the week of the 16th, so we are confirmed as the week of the 23rd now.
We can’t play then we have our big Bristol Street Motors game 😁
answering my own question, Desailly played in the 2002 friendly for Chelsea
