Udoh and Kone both had chances which should hit the net 90% of the time. They both missed without even testing the keeper. That's pretty dreadful in my view.
To then compound matters by conceding a poor goal really is really disappointing.
Distinct lack of creativity from corners since GA and Dobbo left. Consistently poor. Haven’t got any data to hand but I’d take a guess to suggest our set pieces have got distinctly less dangerous and successful.
Poor game to lose that. I thought we were comfortably the better side especially 2nd half, but you just can't miss chances like we did tonight. Not a huge number perhaps, but good quality chances.
I think we've played alright in the games I've seen so far.
But it's slightly concerning that we look both wasteful in front of goal (our starting striker has missed 4-5 good chances already) and unlikely to keep a clean sheet.
I’m not sure how many went tonight but they deserve a free drink next time they’re at AP. It was an exhibition match and I’m sure like many of you, I grew more and more frustrated as the game went on. Too many players played themselves out of contention for Saturday for me.
Normally we come away from these types of matches and say “well at least we got through it unscathed”, but we can’t even say that tonight!
Tonights negatives - we are incredibly wasteful in front of goal, Butcher looks unfit, Bakinson takes too long to get into the game, Hartridge still prone to silly mistakes, going target man plus speedy partner upfront didn twork because our crossing was poor, dreadful corners.
Tonights positives - Skura looked really calm & composed, Bakinson looked good once he got up to game speed, Udoh worked really hard, Sadlier was decent, Pattenden put a decent turn in.
It was after all the pizza cup, so not something to get too upset about especially given the number of changes from Saturdays starting XI
The two missed chances which win us the game, are beyond shocking. Glasshalfche is right that this match means nothing, but even on the training ground misses like those are just not tolerable at this level. How does Udoh not head in from a yard out? How does Kone not score when running at the keeper with the ball at his feet and the goal at his mercy... Those 'goals' win us the game, simple as. I can't remember seeing two such shocking misses from the same side in the same game at this level, like ever?
It is becoming impossible to fathom reallly isn’t it. The last time we saw him in a quartered shirt - the Wealdstone friendly last season - he was by common consent the outstanding player on the pitch. I remember remarking to a fellow supporter that he’d played himself into the team for the opening fixture and pretty much every one I spoke to after the game agreed
I think it’s pretty clear now that he’s not going to get a look in and needs to move on.
If Young plays a central midfield role with Humphrys coming in potentially that is the one area of the squad where I think we are more than covered. Especially as you have Ward capable in that position too.
Worrying that our top scorer from last season is out for a period of time.

What a turgid corner. Barely beat the first man in any of them

No team can afford to be so bad in both boxes.
Not sure what turgid means but it was a pathetic corner.
Poor night, not any sort of disaster in itself, but with the back to back league defeats we could have done with a morale boosting one.
Could easily have nicked tonight. Not sure if that makes it worse or better.
Either way, game easily forgotten, off to bed.
Bit of pressure on the weekend now.

never did like this competition
Wonder how much of that was because JJ was taking them.

Well that's 100 minutes I'll never get back

The poor start to the season continues.
Absolutely. But we managed to get some success with short corners too with Wingy on the edge of the box. Right now we seem totally impotent from them.

Defending and attacking set pieces is something Dobbo was great at.
A pretty horrid game. Couldn’t justify watching all of it. Turned over early in the second half as I could feel my eyes closing.
Vokes scored against Wrexham from a corner

Had me puzzled because I’ve never seen him take one. Then the pfennig dropped.
Imagine getting all pissy about this pony.
Saturday matters. This couldn’t matter less.
A consolation goal where the defending was very poor. I can’t remember many other goals from corners.
Back t o Marlow Road. That was park football. Not for me.
Quite, so why risk key players and in Leahy's case possibly losing him for ir a few league games.
It’s a Wembley final and earlier this year was Bloom’s biggest moment in management.
BBC say Jack Young was on the bench. If he can’t even get on for the ‘tin pot’ then that five year contract is looking very generous. A strange one.
Losing Luke is a much bigger deal than losing the game.
Time to get the cheque book out...

A real head scratcher.
He was good against Long Crendon too, so perhaps his level is sadly not League 1 right now
Yes maybe, although its pretty hard to come to that conclusion without giving him a chance you’d have thought.
Surely tonight was that opportunity, given we have a clear need for a midfielder that is comfortable in possession.
