Matchday Commentaries

For the last two seasons the @bluntphil matchday commentaries have also been available on Wycombe Sound 106.6 FM - which has been great if you happen to be in their reception area. Can anyone confirm if this has now been withdrawn?

  • Hi @adamspark, the commentaries are still available on Wycombe Sound 106.6FM for every game.

  • Thanks @bluntphil. I tuned in for the Wrexham match, but there was nothing doing - had to make do with BBC 3CR instead. I'll hope for better luck tonight then!

  • That’s odd as Wycombe Sound was the only place our comms was broadcast on Saturday, although the opening minutes will have been missed as we scrambled a connection after our EFL one failed.

Hopefully this evening will be a better experience!

    COYB!

  • I believe Saturday was a league-wide issue with official commentary feeds?? It was unacceptable (not blaming the club or media team). I hope the issues have been ironed out ahead of tonight’s fixtures as I can’t stomach the thought of having to listen to that awful commentary again.

We say it time and time again - we are so lucky to have Phil and his team of co-commentators, and the commentary on Saturday just reinforced that.

  • For those watching on sky, we have to put up with poor commentary, no where near Phil’s standards.

  • Is it avaliable in France?

  • I don’t suppose the Wycombe sound commentary syncs with the Sky Sports plus coverage does it?

I know it’s unlikely but it would mean we could turn the volume down and stick the radio and get Phil back.

  • This sky coverage is crap, , no build up to the game , just plugging some drink!

The biggest problem for Sky is now they're suddenly putting 30 or 40 games on the same day, they've had to find a stack of new commentators which probably isn't that easy to do, if you want quality.

  • Remember the old days when iFollow used to have a call centre full of people who’d never seen a football match adding commentary on the highlights? The Sky commentary is every bit as low rent.

  • And the audio is constantly stuttering. I hate Sky.

  • This guy isn't bad, done his research at least. Audio quality is terribly stuttering.

  • I would agree but my damn laptop has gone black screen and all I have is the commentary at the moment!!

So I'll take it however crap it is.

  • I agree. Thousand times better than the guy on Saturday who seemed like a parody commentator.

  • He’s definitely watching on screen though.

  • Worst of all, it sounds like the crowd noise is turned down in favour of the commentary, making it sound devoid of atmosphere.

  • To be honest it’s not Earth shatteringly loud sitting here behind the goal.

  • Crowd looks a fair bit less than it was last time we were down there.

  • It was the same on Saturday though but a fantastic atmosphere in the ground

  • There was virtually no noise when Wycombe scored on the ITV highlight show.

  • Just over 2000 with about 200 Wycombe fans apparently.

  • 276 peregrinators in a “crowd” of just over 2,300. Well, that’s what I heard on the Sky Spirts + commentary. Mrs micra, an extremely rare viewer of Wycombe games on TV, remarked about the total lack of atmosphere and, bafflingly, thought the second goal would be disallowed if it was an own goal which of course it clearly was. She still has plenty to learn, bless her, despite my best efforts.

I thought the lone commentator was ok yesterday. He’d done a fair amount of research and showed no obvious bias towards either club.

I anticipate an intriguingly close contest on Saturday with a welcome return to commentary from the one and only @bluntphil and his chosen co-commentator. Any guesses who that might be?

  • Thought the commentary was ok, on his own and had clearly watched wycombe games before and knew his facts .

  • There were a fair few slip ups on names from the commentator. But credit where credits due, I thought he was ok and had done his research.

  • About as good as you’ll get for a one-off Tuesday night commentator on their own. I do think Sky should try and have apprentices/students as co-commentators. It’s really bland without a bit of to and fro between two on comms.

  • Last night's commentator was knowledgeable and had clearly done his research. He talked too much though.

  • You want a Richie Benaud type on these matches don't you?

Just let it breathe for a bit before you roll out your next researched tit-bit to fill the silence.

  • To be fair to him, he said he had covered Blooms’ Wycombe debut as well as the JPT game where Gaz made a cameo. I’m guessing he’s commentated on us on quite a number of occasions over the past 15 or so years.

  • No Phil for sure.... but as others have said I was happily suprised by him. He had obviously done his research so fair play to him
