Top scorer
For the first time in ages I feel we have a 20 goal striker in the squad. We’ve had some near misses and some decent contributors but in Kone I see goals goals goals.
I’ve had a look on a couple of betting apps but can’t see if there’s a place to back a player for 20 plus goals. Anyone got any suggestions

Agreed until we also signed Udoh, I now think we have 2 who can both get around 15 with others contributing as well with 5-10
If we get Hanlan back in good order and lubala firing on all cylinders.... we have a team with massive potential for goals galore.....
I’d imagine Udoh will be our first choice centre forward so Kone may have to wait his turn.
I would put Kone first. He’s still an unknown talent for most clubs. He’s fixated on shooting. He’s what we’ve missed for years. Where Vokes sits in the priorities is interesting. We are blessed with options on paper at least.
as we are in the centre of the park …

You might, I might, but I think Bloomfield has signed Udoh to be his first choice striker. On that basis I’d be very surprised if Kone managed 20 goals, a feat I don’t think any striker has managed with us for over a decade.
A thought provoking article @TheAndyGrahamFanClub, well worth a read.
It’s possibly too soon to speculate on how many goals individual players might score but, assuming Kone’s development continues at the same pace as last season, it wouldn’t be a great surprise if he scores 15-20 goals next season. If both stay fit, I can imagine Kone and Udoh being neck and neck.
Udoh has never scored 20 goals in a season and has hit the 15 mark twice in the last ten years.
But he still has time on his side.
Some interesting stuff about competition for places, particularly in midfield, but some OTT stuff about “the fans’ favourite” and, perhaps because of extreme youth, seeming to be unaware that the arrival of of Sam Vokes at the club was by no means the first time that a former top flight player has graced us with their presence.
As implied above, I think we have enough rotation to where it will be hard for anyone to get past 15. We also may have phases of the season where we struggle to manufacture goals, irrespective of the forward talent.
I also think home bias probably inflates the expected totals a bit, so I am going to guess Udoh 13 and Kone 11 (if we are just talking league). I have 25/26 earmarked for when Kone really explodes.
Yeah I can’t see anyone breaking past 15 league goals.
What fills me with confidence about Kone compared to other players is his focus on shooting. Based on no stats and just feelings alone I am guessing that Vokes attempts on goal v his goals his pretty good, but he goes for long periods where he doesn't shoot and where the team has very few goal attempts. Kone just wants to shoot and there will be patches where he is off with accuracy etc but having a player in the team who is single minded in his desire to get to a shooting position is nothing something we have had for a while.
It's been a long time since there was such optimism about the potential fire power we have in our attack. I really really hope our expectations and optimism is valid and we see goals galore this season!
Vokes will be a great option from the bench if we’re looking to keep possession late on to protect a lead. We now have a really well balanced and established squad which could surprise many this year.
Better not be TOO many goals or the next thing you'll be seeing is him buggering off to a team higher up the leagues.
Just keep the expectation and pressure low on Kone. Some of the goal predictions are getting a little wild.
I think expectations and optimism are perfectly valid. Just hope they prove to have been justified. Goals galore have not been a feature of Wycombe performances since goodness knows when.
Happy days ahead I hope.
I don’t know if you’re a betting man but I don’t think you’d get long odds against that.
I await @DevC’s correction about the odds. I’m never sure if it should be on or against but, as we talk about something being achieved against all odds, I tend to go for the latter.
In the unlikely event that, in my dotage, I become a betting man, I might finally get it right.
Well David Wheeler is certainly this fan's favourite. Let's not forget he taught Ollie Watkins everything he knows, so I'm sure his influence will rub off on our new golden generation of strikers.
I don’t think Udoh is a traditional centre forward. From snippets of information I’ve picked up, I get the impression that he’s more of what the more elderly among us would describe as an inside forward. 8 on the right; 10 on the left.
To the limited extent to which I regard myself as a fan of any particular player, I would agree with you about David Wheeler.
A few seasons ago, he was the second of two players that I struggled to appreciate. Over the past two or three seasons, as far as he is concerned, I have come full circle. My appreciation is not confined to his versatility as a player. Off-field he is an admirable character with a range of interests and talents, not least as the PFA ambassador for sustainability.
I’m sure I don’t need to name the other player. Jayden Wilkins’ effusiveness about him and his highlighting him as the fans’ favourite seemed well over the top.
Is it Sam Vokes, @micra?
David Wheeler is a bit of a unicorn, inasmuch as 10 David Wheeler clones would probably beat a team with 10 clones of any other player, (except for maybe Leahy?) but I still don't know what his best position is.
Would you rather fight ten David Wheeler sized unicorns or ten unicorn sized David Wheelers?
Unicorns are just horses aren't they?
Does it have to be a current player or am I allowed Alfie Mawson?
Good shout there!
Not always
Similar eyes and nose.....
Might be! Have you read all the different pieces accessible via the link posted yesterday by @TheAndyGrahamFanClub to gain the full flavour?
I may be wrong but I think the author, Jayden Wilkins, is a burgeoning (? 20 year old) journalist who supports Wycombe.
If unicorns don't celebrate scoring against Exeter we know we have a match. (sorry David!)
