Games Abroad
Apologies if this is a titanic moment.
How is this even being discussed, absolutely disgusting. Football is for the community not international armchair fans of the top clubs:

An inevitable consequence of the internationalisation of football. Just got to hope that if it does happen, it's a 39th game and not part of the original schedule.
Can we play our games in Italy then please
‘Let us keep VAR or we’ll play games abroad.’
To he fair, if fan power could stop the ESL, it can stop this.
Football ceased being for the community a long time ago (except when clubs are in financial distress of course).
We are all extras in the TV companies’ grand production. And what’s more, we pay for the privilege.
Luckily, at our level, we’re spared the worst of the circus.
Sports administration is highly remunerated work for people who are too corrupt for normal politics. A high bar indeed!
How the heck can league games be played abroad. The single feature a league needs is every club play each other home and away.
Which is why the 39th game was an utter non starter.
They'll be saying the prem clubs don't have to play in the league cup next, to cut down on demands on players...then release news of a cup played solely abroad.
19 home games, 19 away games and one neutral surely
How do you decide on the opposition for the neutral game? Imagine this season if Luton had had Sheffield United and Forest had to play Man City again - could lead to a relegation because of an entirely unequal fixture list. Seems like a non starter to me
Well that's the major problem that means it won't get off that ground
There's 2 separate ideas aren't there?
The 39th game idea that was long binned.
And this new idea of exploring some games abroad.
An utter non starter.
It'd be a non starter even if each club played 1 game abroad in the usual 38 game season.
A club with a rabid home crowd like Liverpool would lose something if they had 1 of their home games moved to say Chile.
Its almost as if the game is now purely about money
This is all about taking PL to the US and its definitely not a PLUS for anyone who supports an English team and goes to games.
This is as bad as the ESL if not worse.
Fans who go to games are irrelevant to Big clubs as they make up such a small percentage of the actual turnover. Most matchday turnover is less than 15% of total turnover for PL clubs. Bournemouth's matchday income is 3.8% of total income.
Thankfully we will never see this below the PL, I would love to see us play some pre season friendlies abroad though. France, Belgium or Holland would be great
And there was me thinking this thread would be about where we might like WWFC to play a couple of pre-season friendlies.
let's pivot to that instead. i'd love to watch us play in Greece myself
We could play against Socrates
We should have a game against Wishaw Wycombe Wanderers - however, not sure of their level...
There's a Whitkirk Wanderers in Leeds. So a WW who also play in Blue!
There's Montevideo Wanderers in Uruguay
I miss those pre season goose chases - Burnham cancelled after the fans entered the ground, driving round N France looking for not the home ground of the opposition (no wonder Bayo was wound up). Any other pointless trips G Roomers remember ?
How about the owner hiring a fleet of planes to take us all to a pre season friendly in Kazakhstan at his expense?
I actually think this is the most likely for the future!
I would love to watch the blues in Halifax in Nova Scotia, Canada. They have a side called HFX Wanderers. They are in the Canadian league. Halifax is five hours flying from the UK and is a very pleasant city on the shores of the North Atlantic Ocean. Great bars, restaurants, open spaces and has a a lot of history. Been there twice and would like an excuse to return.
Almost nothing is known about Lom but there's a very good chance that a billionaire from Central Asia will have a base/second passport in the UAE.
The place must be awash in training facilities considering just how many teams visit in the close season.
