FA Cup replays scrapped

I know I'm probably in a minority of one on here, but I think this is a good thing and long overdue.

shameful, pathetic decision
More time to focus on the BSM.
At least the FA Cup mdweek games have been dropped.
You ought to get more upsets now. Hard to see how that's not a good thing.
Not quite...
"The fourth round will be played in an extended window from Friday to Wednesday."
yeah, can't have poor Klopp's (*) boys getting tired in the race for 4th place
Some of the greatest games in history have been FA Cup replays. It's a weak decision from a governing body too afraid to stand up to the big clubs
(*) insert any "big team's" manager here
Very sad. Inevitable but very sad.
And some of the greatest games in history have not been replays. Not sure what your point is.
What I don't get, though, is they say the change is driven my expanded UEFA competitions. Fine, but how do they affect the early rounds?
In order to accommodate expanded UEFA competitions which the few would rather participate in, the many are losing once again in yet a further devaluation of the FA Cup. That there are those who see this as a positive thing just goes to show how far down the list of priorities this once celebrated competition has become. That the concession has been ceded without so much as a token in return is just commensurate with the FA's dealings with the Premier League. The FA is a joke organisation and perhaps diminishing its own remit is some kind of blessing in disguise, but sadly it is giving it away not to a more capable organisation but to one intent on gobbling up ever bigger slices of the game, jealous of every crumb that spills from its bloated lips.
It would make much more sense to take Prem teams out of the League Cup. This is a terrible decision.
How do the UEFA date changes affect teams playing rounds 1 and 2?
I'd argue that replaying the *final* (the clue is in the name) - as happened until the early 90s, which I find incredible - devalued the competition more than this allegedly has. Replays were a relic from a time before they'd come up with another way to settle drawn games.
If we'd been able to take Villa to extra time in 2016, we'd have won and created memories to last a lifetime. As it was, it went to a replay, which, as bad as Villa were, was too much for our League Two legs in the end.
There's a definitely a case for following France and Germany and getting rid of the League Cup, but I think the strength in depth of our pyramid makes it worth keeping.
I’d much rather have binned off the league cup.
Finals should still be replayed
Disgraceful decision. What did the EFL do to represent us in this debate?
You can't just present imaginary scenarios as facts!
I mean, you have, so you can, but you shouldn't
A, dare I say it, Dev-esque post
It's pretty obvious that over the course of 180-210 minutes, as opposed to 90-120, the higher-ranked team is at an advantage. Not a wild assertion to make that you'd get more upsets without replays. But no one seems capable of having a logical debate about this.
Presume you weren't at Selhurst Park in 2001?
Sorry, *no one over a certain age
No, I was six years old. People always bring this up and yes, it was obviously a classic game, but that's not because it was a replay. And that's not the compelling argument to keep replays that those who make it seem to think it is.
If replays had been scrapped in 2001 we would have been denied one of the greatest, most memorable nights in Wycombe’s history…Selhurst Park, Martin Taylor, my most biased commentary ever! This is another example of the PL flexing its muscles and the FA giving in.
I must have missed your argument for scrapping them
Also, there was a lot less between the Prem and the third tier in terms of fitness back in 2001, so it's not a fair comparison in that regard either.
I doubt it. I'm sure you're just being your usual obtuse self.
Never thought I'd say this, but I agree with you. Make that a minority of two.
I fell in love with football when i was a kid.
I have very fond memories of listening to FA cup replays on the radio and thinking how exciting it was
I have very fond memories of going to FA Cup replays as a fan. Under the floodlights. winner takes all. Needing extra time to edge past Trowbridge, earning a replay at London Rd, being one of goodness knows how many fans crammed into Adams Park v Boston (official attendance 4,000)
Selhurst Park remains the best memory I have supporting Wycombe. If I could go back in time to one game not knowing the result it would be that one.
Couldn't give a fuck whether you find these arguments compelling or not. To be fair, they're not even arguments really.
But loads of people love replays, and loads of people have very fond memories of replays, and loads of people are sad they've gone. That's the argument.
And there is no argument really, because they've been scrapped, and they will never come back. So you're happy. So no need for you to comment at all really unless you just want to wind people up who feel strongly about it. But that would be a really twattish thing to do.
Disagree, fine, but if you're getting wound up by my very level-headed comments (and let's face it, you are), I think you're a little too sensitive.
And without replays we would not have had one of the greatest nights football following Wycombe, nor everything which followed in that cup run.
Sorry @flymofrank but trying to justify this on the basis of it creating better memories isn't going to cut it with any Wycombe fans.
