I’ve not used the station as I live close to Mortimer station.
I will be dropped off at the back exit to GP on Kirtons Farm Rd, short 15 minute walk to the away stand.
I have it on good authority that Reading will run out of money by the end of the month and have already warned staff they might not be paid. Further points deductions and administration looms.
They’ve been taken for a ride by their owner. There are many more ‘Readings’ yet. EFL have not had a grip on things whatsoever. Regulator has been needed for a very long time. Starts from the top and the Premier League are not squeaky clean whatsoever either. Shame. English football feels in a precarious position.
Lets just hope that whatever new broadcasting deals come in include a way of making sure that money is filtered down throughout the EFL and not just kept at the top
I think it’s utterly ludicrous that the clubs coming down from the Premier League have managed to act so extravagantly.
Leicester are in trouble with the EFL, yet were allowed to sign Coady for c£8m and Winks for c£12m. Both have well-established England national team clout.
Leeds and Southampton are both guilty too. Joel Piroe £12m; Ethan Ampadu £8m; Ross Stewart £10m; Glenn Kamara £5m; Ilia Gruev £6m; Djed Spence (loan £1.5m); Shea Charles £12m.
I haven’t even mentioned the calibre of players that each of the above have been allowed to retain: Meslier, Gnonto, Vardy, Justin, Pereira, Ndidi etc. Outrageous that they are allowed to maintain that quality on those wages.
To be fair, I’ll cut Southampton some slack because they raised c£125m by selling top talents like Lavia, Ward-Prowse and Livramento, although I’m sure those players would have been sold regardless of relegation. They were all destined for top half sides.
These clubs lose c£100m of PL funding (annually) when they get relegated. They are making a mockery of the parachute payment system. I’m sure the system was not designed to allow this recklessness. Reform urgently needed. The footballing bodies are way too reactive. Proactivity needed urgently before half of the pyramid collapses.
He gave it the big one a few years ago to the Oxford end at Adams Park when he scored, despite being born and bred there inc. coming through their youth academy, so you can't rule out the latter!
They did turn him down for being too old just before he signed for us mind, so I imagine he was slightly miffed at that! Must be on ~125 games for us now in all competitions...not bad for someone who was 'too old'
They get a certain amount of money even for finishing bottom...probably more than Rob paid for us...so I cannot see why they have to get any more. They should just have to cut their cloth, sell players, etc etc.
Would it? Luton have never received a penny of parachute payments and they're making a decent fist of it. Much better than Burnley or Sheffield United who much have parachute payments in their budget by this point.
The downside of that is some clubs will take the piss even more than they would have done without parachute payments, getting themselves into a right financial hole.
We need to take Wembley ticket sales with a pinch of salt. Remember that thousands of Reading fans are (doubtless) now trying to get refunds for their final tickets and the stickers they purchased to put on the goalposts, now that the deal has fallen through.
After the club's boasts about the "Worldwide Wycombe Web of Wonderation" (or whatever it was), turned out to be you, Flloyd, that little gang of Spanish amigos and 2 Mexican blokes (with the other 99% of traffic from the gasroom on VPNs) we should think carefully about these stats.
That and the "highest ever league attendance" the other year, that turned out to be...in August, on a Saturday that was warm, against Oxford, including only home fans.

Very true. Since the big carpark that was 5mins away and quick emptying was redeveloped, the choices have reduced and the carnage has increased.

Im hoping they stay in League One.

Southampton lost £87m in 2022/23 https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/24159702.southampton-post-87m-loss-2022-23-financial-accounts/
Have they tried looking down the back of the sofa?
Sofampton.
Random Question but what reaction do you think McCleary will do if he scores this weekend? Will it be muted or will he do an Adebayor?
He gave it the big one a few years ago to the Oxford end at Adams Park when he scored, despite being born and bred there inc. coming through their youth academy, so you can't rule out the latter!
However, between July 1st and September 5th (2023 /24) they sold players for a total of £150M and reduced the playing budget from £89M to £55M.
The Parachute Payment of about £45M will all but pay the clubs wages this season.
They did turn him down for being too old just before he signed for us mind, so I imagine he was slightly miffed at that! Must be on ~125 games for us now in all competitions...not bad for someone who was 'too old'
Get rid of parachute payments, or at least limit them to one season after relegation, and you solve a lot of problems at the top of football.
Absolutely spot on!
Parachute clubs: Gobs of money to outspend others.
Other Champo clubs: Overspend to try and keep up with parachute clubs.
L1 clubs: Overspend to try and keep up with escalating player wages trickling down.
L2 clubs: Overspend to try and keep up with escalating player wages trickling down.
They get a certain amount of money even for finishing bottom...probably more than Rob paid for us...so I cannot see why they have to get any more. They should just have to cut their cloth, sell players, etc etc.
This feels very simplistic to me. Would make it nigh on impossible for promoted clubs to ever compete in the league above
I’d say 90 min before KO
Thanks v helpful

But parachute payments allow clubs to spend big enough to compete in the first place - effectively, it lets them overspend.

The attendance at Reading will be bigger than the Wycombe crowd at Wembley.
That's slightly harsh @wwfcblue ......
I think it will be very close
@wwfcblue That's a very fair call
Now we've got this Reading Bearwood shit out of the way, how are we tracking Reading attendance vs Wembley ticket sales 🤣😜
Almost two thirds of the way there...
We need to take Wembley ticket sales with a pinch of salt. Remember that thousands of Reading fans are (doubtless) now trying to get refunds for their final tickets and the stickers they purchased to put on the goalposts, now that the deal has fallen through.
Plus they've got a shed load of tennis balls to shift.
Agreed.
