A friend has suggested Matt Butcher could be a replacement for Josh Scowen, should his injury be a long-term one, or Freddie Potts, should the rumours be true and he is set to be recalled from his loan.
not the one on my radar. this would suggest the player is unlikely due to the club not finding the cover needed or both happen then this would be a serious upgrade on the options we have had in the Centre of the park
To put the meat on the bones of this link, Butcher is regarded down here as a solid decent player who can do a job. Nothing spectacular but not terrible either. Unlikely to be on massive wages or attract a big fee and with Argyle having injuries and quite a lot of games to play and not certain yet of Championship survival, a feeling among the supporters that it might be better for them to hang on until the end of season and let him leave on a free then.
Reading some of the stories around this, it seems as tho some of Plymouth's signings this window have knocked Butcher down the squad ranking. He's only made 3 league starts this season and 12 off the bench so I bet he'd be looking for game time. It's unclear if this is a permanent signing or just a loan until his contract runs out in the summer?
From your sources, were the club not looking for a Centre Mid or were they looking but you've heard of other names and not this player?
Local paper story. They are compared to many one of the better funded local papers and do have knowledge of what is going on behind the scenes. May the story has legs (before the player chops them off...)

sounds like a good signing
Christ! A positive post from @Blueword! I've taken a screenshot as it might last longer! 😜
it wouldn't be no. Currently plays for a team much higher in the table.
We certainly need a midfielder and would suggest a left back as well in this transfer window.
The steaks couldn't be higher.
With the squad looking a little lean we could do with adding some fat, who knows a tilt at the play-offs might be bac on.

Or both. Which is nice.
I hesitate to say it but is there any chance that Scowen isn’t injured and is on his way?
He recently signed a contract extension in October so I'm not sure but since when has a contract stopped players from leaving their team soon after?!
Or a belated replacement for Curtis Thompson/Dominic Gape!
Let’s hope he isn’t a lamb to the slaughter

Seems like a cracking signing if he we get him. Busy 36 hours coming up.
All of a sudden, this thread is bristling with puns.
He will make mincemeat of the opposition.
(Which incidentally might help improve the catering side of things. Matt Butcher - the demon midfielder of Hillbottom Road)
Lets just hope that Frank & Pat come along to some of the games too!

With friends like that…
I recently discovered there's a band called The Pat Butchers
looking for a cm but a different name to this, smart pick up this if true a solid operator and with a view to building a longer term squad.
Chop chop, let's get this done!
Before we make any more budget cuts

Plymouth Argyle midfielder Matt Butcher linked with Wycombe Wanderers move - Plymouth Live (plymouthherald.co.uk)
I presume this won’t be Lewis Wing, but I do wonder if we’re keeping close tabs on him.
(Yes I am obviously aware we can sign players that are new to the club). Wing fits a very big Freddie Potts sized hole next season).
No, we managed to bring in 5 players with his wages off the books. Not athletic enough.
A player of that quality is a rare find.
Although he looks like he needs to beef up a bit to me.
