And Lyle Taylor did something similar at Charlton, albeit at a time early in the pandemic when players were apparently given the option not to play . Or maybe, it was just him because his intention to move on was already known.
King Koné’s scoring rate is phenomenal if you include pre-season Friendlies, EFL Trophy and Behind Closed Doors matches.
I hope Bez is able to make a better job of transferring his goal scoring reputation from Burton to Wycombe than the last player from there did. Only joking. I rate Dale and think he has performed a lot better in that withdrawn role - effectively advanced central midfielder. I see in the squad list he is shown as a midfielder in fact.
I hope we see Christie Ward at some point tomorrow. Possibly in place of Dale Taylor at some stage in the second half. He was a prolific goalscorer in his teens.
The header image caption: Bez Lubala (pictured left whilst at Blackpool in 2021) has joined Wycombe from Burton Albion(he's clearly not on the left)
Words missing from the second paragraph: The 26-year-old, who scored six times in 26 appearances for the Brewers in half-a-seasons, joins the Chairboys for an undisclosed contract length.
Fourth paragraph doesn't make sense: This was his last goal for the club before his move to Adams Park, where he was Burton's highest scorer this season.
I’m sure he’s great. I’m sure he’s a really talented player. And I’m never one to criticise a new signing. But I just don’t get where he’s needed without it being to detriment of someone we already have. We seem very unlikely to start playing 2 strikers so we have Vokes, Kone, Taylor and now Bez playing for 1 spot. If he plays wide we have 4 of those for 2 spots.
This seems like a case of signing a good player because he’s a good player, not necessarily a good player for our team. Which I strongly believe was the issue with Phillips.
I understand where you're coming from to a degree but if Vokes gets injured we are really screwed. Kone is new to all this, D. Taylor is only effective (debatable) when playing behind Vokes.
So, I think it was a pretty important signing if MB believes he can play as a lone striker or is to be used in a two with Taylor or Kone, if Vokes is unavailable. Whether he is good enough only time will tell.
If that’s the case then I get it. Feel for him if that’s the case. Laboured in positions he clearly wasn’t comfortable in (central midfield when we had orthodox midfielders on the bench, wide when we had orthodox wide players on the bench, a target man with no support for 10 yards) and did well when he played up with Vokes. Another example of a decent player in the wrong role.
Why do we not think Kone can hit the ground running and be the best striker? 3 more goals and he’s ahead of Vokes. He’s been training as a pro since the summer. He has an eye for goal. We need goals. Why not trust him to deliver? Just let him go, exuberance of youth and all that.
It seems to be more the case that MB is coming out with the lines that Kone needs to be “protected” from the expectations of the fanbase, and appears accordingly reluctant to start him.
Bloomfield also said there’s work to be done on Kone’s contribution without the ball, which is entirely understandable given the leap in divisions that he’s made.
There is work to be done on his out of possession approach, but why don’t we play a system that plays to Kone’s strengths? I’ve seen enough in the two or three games to know that his anticipation and movement in goalscoring areas is outstanding for this level. We carried Bayo with one knee. He was useless out of possession because of his size, but it didn’t matter because we had nine other outfield players more than making up for his inability to press. Kone can do much more off the ball than Bayo could. If Kone doesn’t start one of the next few league games then I think Bloomfield is missing a trick. We should want to start a player that has already put the ball in the net multiple times when we lack goals.
Anis was similar when he came into the first team, his defensive abilities were pretty poor but you could see after half a dozen or so games that he was more aware of what was expected of him within the team unit.
I am sure Richard Kone will develop similarly but I hope he is not held back and is given the chance to develop those additional skills/disciplines.
Yes, I think one of the most exciting aspects I’ve seen of Kone’s game so far is his unpredictability - an aspect in which otherwise our attacking play is woefully lacking.
To my mind that alone is worth a start - try and see if we can get on the front foot early doors rather than leaving him for a cameo role.
I’m sure he’ll start in the Tinpot, but not so sure about the league games.
I agree. A raw talent is dangerous to the opposition as they are fearless and unknown (quite often to themselves and team mates too). Let him rip. If he blows up after 60 minutes hopefully we will be 3 or 4 up.
Or pay for an account and support journalism. There's no point moaning about bad writing and clickbait reporting on the BFP otherwise - that's what happens when there's no money left in journalism because people look for clever wheezes to avoid paying for the work that's entailed in providing an actual service.

Aha! You're commenting on the poor punctuation, not the scoreline in the game in which he scored his last goal for Burton.
Now I understand, my apologies.
I'd love to know what the cock ups are in the article, as everything looks pretty spot on to me? Unless of course it has been edited.
We’ve got Kone
Better than Toney
We just don’t think you understand
He comes from Cote D’Ivoire
He’ll score from near and far
We’ve got super King Kone

I didn't look at the picture or comment. Yes 2nd para is a bit messy, 4th para reads fine to me but I didn't get the best english GCSEs!

in blooms we trust
I have heard a rumour that Dale Taylor has been recalled / sent back

We might think he can, but we still needed another striker.

Christ you don't half moan a lot

Yes but we've been appalling this season.
It's akin to being voted the most suave fella in the terrace
I know, was trying to illustrate how impotent we've been
Clearly someone who won that award isn't happy at my statement 🤣
(Them, not you)
Noticed that, in his first interview with Phil, Bez let slip “there is a bit of pressure around the place”. Not sure what that means?
God I hope we don’t train him to occupy defenders instead of scoring.
@MaloneI think you'll find that @stevedore kept that prize in the end, like Brazil and the Jules Rimet trophy.
It means after almost three quarters of the season we're four points above the relegation zone, and we've won once in seventeen attempts.

The BFP continuously bled until the Athletic were the last ones standing
