Me too. I’ve been pondering it in the light of all the interesting comments and now have more than the minimal conviction with which I made the original suggestion. Especially the fact that he played in that position in a lot of games.
All we have to do now is to put our submission to the Gaffer.
For info Leahy was Shrewsbury’s top scorer last season with 12 goals, 8 of them penalties. I don’t mind where he plays as long as he’s in the starting lineup!
This lad ticks a lot of the boxes…American born, strong, agile, good finisher, holds the ball well - sounds like someone who would learn a lot from Vokesey.
I was just about to post that after seeing him on MOTD! I think he hadn’t played a single league game before he joined us, didn’t turn out too bad did he?
Very true! Interestingly, Hashtag United recently posted a compliment on twitter to Anis for playing for Bristol City against West Ham after once playing against Hashtag for Woodford, as if nothing happened in between...
Yes, that is exactly what I said. You find me a striker with his desire and application that scores goals, and while you're at is, try and find £1m+. What he would add is a burning passion and desire, and it would rub off on everyone else.
Alex Samuel was the second striker in our only ever promotion season from L1. I would have him back in a heartbeat. Goals are important, but he also won free kicks aplenty and made defenders' lives he'll in the channels. We could use him when trying to defend late leads!
Taylor, TJ, AAH, Samuel, Uche and any other recent striker we have employed would, I firmly Believe, score 15 - 20 goals in a season playing in this team in its current formation / lineup.
Assuming being fit and playing every game. In my view the key to this is a fit and firing Sam Vokes and playing 2 up front. Getting the best from the likes of Sam and GMac with a comparative succession plan / backup would be top of my list.
I still don't quite understand why we're discussing needing a backup to someone who scrapes one goal involvement per 300 minutes of football. I'd consider that a poor stat for the backup, let alone the first choice.
Comments
Can't we just release on a free? No way he'll agree to a mutual termination.
Wasn't Leahy a 10 at Shrewsbury when he won player of the year?
In a lot of their games, yes, so I’m a bit confused what everyone’s on about. I’m with @aloysius on this one

With our current line up and 442 formation, I think Luke only makes it in at LB. Without Scowen or Potts it’s toss of the coin between him and Wheels.
Whether Luke likes it or not he’s first choice LB with JJ as back up.
From my memory seasons where our left back are among our top scorers tend to work out well.
Hear, hear but I think there is genuine and understandable concern about coverage for the left back position.

someone with no mens football experience? no thanks , we are not an u21 side
Maybe not keeper though 😉
Someone with no experience of men’s football, someone like Anis Mehmeti or Freddie Potts do you mean?
You do come out with some utter tosh at times.
Keeping the word count down I see @Twizz
anis did have mens football experience....albeit at a lower tier but still mens football
Let’s not forget Ebere Eze who had played something like 20 minutes of men’s football prior to joining us on loan. No thanks!
Matt Ingram, Anthony Stewart, Josh Scowen...

Can’t see us going for any more loans given we have five already.
Alex Samuel has just gone on loan to Inverness CT. He is exactly what we could do with right now in terms of application and drive (maybe not goals).
On a side note, glad we didn't sign Uche.
Michael Appleton has confirmed that Uche was at Charlton for a medical this week but probably won't sign now they have Ladapo.
We need someone who scores goals. Samuel does not fit that criteria by a long way.

That saga not over yet!

He would fit the difficult-to-fill role of affordable Vokes backup.

And interestingly, of course, in the crucial play-offs, he was the first striker, with Bayo playing a small part, on the pitch at least.
