Nothing has been said on here (to the best of my knowledge) about the importance of the ethos and traditions of our club. If anything was guaranteed when MB became manager it was the continuation of those traditions.
First and foremost has been the importance placed upon the character and personal qualities of the players we’ve recruited over the decades. In return, the club has always taken good care of them and looked after their best interests. We saw that with the way Darius Charles and Alfie Mawson were treated when they had more or less given up the possibility of continuing their careers (arguably the same with Bayo) and more recently Nick Freeman was given a contract extension at a time when it was known that he was likely to be out of action for the rest of the season.
Since MB took over, we have seen that duty of care applied again when Brandon Hanlan suffered a serious injury in the match against Stevenage which also seemed likely to put him out of action for most, if not all, of the season.
it is to the credit of our present owners that Matt (and Gareth before him of course) were able to make those offers.
Traditions, good ones, are extremely important. There has been a lot of campaigning in recent years for example for action to be taken (and I think it was) to ensure that “The Quarters” remain sacrosanct and I’d like to see evidence that the powers-that-be are mindful of the vital importance of protecting the wider traditions of our very special club.
“To compound Colchester's problems, leading scorer Joe Taylor has been recalled from his loan spell by parent club Luton Town after netting 12 times in 27 appearances and, according to Etherington, could now join a League One club.”
”A League One club”? We couldn’t…could we? Think we could do with a third Taylor in the building…
MB would have been fully justified in having a similar rant yesterday if Rovers had snatched an unlikely equaliser - not that Leigh Doughty fell short during those dramatic added minutes - but it’s not his style.
Oh yes he did ! He failed to book John Marquis when he rugby tackled Max Stryjek in a desperate attempt to get the ball after their second goal. A ball that was ours in any case (and I don’t mean we paid for it !)
@micra 3CR love Evans interviews which always seem to be about referees ( Though in this case it was Breakspear) and honest opposition players admitting to him Stevenage were robbed.
This is an excellent compounding of misdirection in the true spirit of Gasroom tangentiality.
Micra is asking about “arf” - which was used by Kim Il Swan, not yourself.
Otherwise his comment about “not ‘arf” makes no sense.
@micra - “arf” is just a generic term for laughter. Not sure if it’s commonly used any more but it used to be used in kids’ comics (Beano, Dandy etc) when I were a lad.
Thanks @PBo. Must admit I was flummoxed by @drcongo’s response (and slightly hurt by his assumption (?) that I didn’t know what CV stood for). Me wot got a Latin ‘O’.
@Wendoverman: I was lucky enough as a kid to have the Beano and Dandy delivered and, when I was a bit older, the Eagle. I found the Eagle too intellectually challenging, never mind War and Peace.

Comment superfluous !
Not Othet Football but relevant to my post above.

I'd like to see us return to the tradition of winning football matches
Hear hear to that @Twizz.
Wishing you and yours a happy, healthy New Year.
Rooney loses again and now has a 13% win record at Birmingham.
Arf.
We had the Leeds Birmingham game on a second screen today just to watch Rooney get a pasting, which he did.
Liverpool v Newcastle reminding us all that even when VAR gets the decisions right it's still awful.
This was posted on the WW FB group - nice to remember that things could be worse, especially when Col U are involved.
Quite the revolving managerial door they’ve got there:

But that’s not all…

Rooney sacked.
ARF
That went well lol
Epic rant by Steve Evans. Oh, dear how sad.

Acute renal failure. Poor lad.
I’m slightly disappointed about Rooney, wanted to see him get another relegation on his CV.
Ok. Confession of ignorance @drcongo.
í honestly haven’t come across that abbreviation before. Is it a contraction of “Fluff” Freeman’s catch comment,”not arf” ?
I think I’ve already enjoyed 2024 more than 2023…
CV is short for curriculum vitae.

I assume @micra was reading War and Peace rather than the adventures of Corky, the Bash Street Kids or Desperate Dan. Arf!
Apparently they're lining up Gary Rowett - who they sacked to replace with Zola in a similarly disastrous move years ago
Did one of you lot send this?
Rooney, Lampard, Gerrard....the golden generation...
I think a Gasroomer comment would have had more wit.
Haha - I came on here to post something similar, but a greater mind thought alike - and quicker!
David James - managed Kerala Blasters in India and stuck Dimitar Berbatov in defensive midfield
Oh, the Nevilles at Valencia... Sol Campbell might actually be the greatest manager of his generation, in a way.
done well in crappy jobs at clubs with no money, you can see why he has the hump.

The Mekon never said 'arf' ?
