Really amazing that a paper that needed to find evidence of misogyny found it isn’t it?
The bloke from Talk Radio and Joey Barton’s comments are obviously pretty stupid, but I’m not sure why you’ve let them rattle you so much
Piers Morgan annoys people by simply existing. I’m not sure his comments recorded in that article are necessarily misogynistic though. I’ve always thought that team players winning SPOTY is a bit daft.
Whoah what's going on here ! I posted something in a rush, didn't mention a name, now I'm being accused of all sorts of down thumbing !?
I'm sorry @eric_plant , I still can't remember his name now, as I'm not a big Tennis fan, just while watching at the end last night felt a bit sorry for him, and thought the lack of disabled Tennis coverage probably did for him. Was an honest thought at the time, sorry I don't know him.
@ReturnToSenda and @Malone wasn't me that downvoted you, and I'm certainly no misogynist ! As it happens I thought Mary was a worthy winner, I actually thought Stuart Broad might get it, but as much as I'm a big cricket fan I'm glad he didn't get it just for retiring, like Ryan Giggs did.
You don't have access to social media I am guess. They are rattled, there are lots of really rattled people. Normal comment is that is a woke agenda that has won it for her (the fact that it is a public vote is lost on these people of course).
She deserves it. In the context of other sports there are some really worthy candidates out there too. I would love Stuart Broad to have it as I am a nostalgic fool, KJT is also well worth it as she displayed an amazing level of resilience to win one of the hardest events in athletics, Josh Kerr also deserved it etc etc. Where Earps got the votes is she performed to the highest level AND engaged with the public conscious by being a really decent human being too - and the mischievous part of me celebrates this even more as it boils the piss of cavemen such as Barton.
I’ve got as much access to social media as I need. If you want to spend time doom scrolling through opinions that you disagree with you mustn’t let me stop you.
I agree with your final paragraph, it’s a popularity contest, and I’m sure she’s a worthy winner.
The worst way to tackle misogyny would be to join an Abrahamic religion, but suggesting that people are imagining mysogyny where it doesn't exist when the likes of Barton are figuratively foaming at the mouth over the web is also a pretty poor way to tackle it.
I feel that the ability to criticise religion is one of the greatest social progressions that we have made over the last 50 years or so and through that criticism a lot of marginalised or outright repressed groups have won key rights. The world of football is hardly at the vanguard of this fight though.
The demand of society over the past decade to give a shit about EVERY issue is greatest social regression. The phrase 'sorry I don't understand the situation so I am unable to chose a side in this argument' is extinct. If you are not in favour of a party or an issue you are most definitely against. Long live apathy.
Case in point: the Israel-Palestine conflict. A highly complex situation that very few people in the Western world are sufficiently placed to comment authoritatively on - yet everyone seems to want to weigh in.
When the SPOTY short list was announced, it was blindingly obvious that Mary Earps was going to win it, and the bookies' odds were so short she was unbackable. Nobody with half a brain cell could have thought otherwise.
If you showed 100 random people clips of post-match interviews with Mary Earps and Joey Barton, and asked them to rate them personality wise, Joey would score few, if any, votes.
As for the 100 penalties, he'd probably shank a few wide of the post or over the bar, and blame it on defective sprinklers.
Moyes is on borrowed time. He has too many players in his squad well beyond their sell by date and pissing off fans by not bringing through young players (Mubama for example. All this is not helped by Sullivan doing his usual thing with transfers that make no sense (Ings).
As with a lot of managers like Moyes football has grown and developed and he hasn’t. Stubbornly supported by Nolan.
Yet they sit in 8th in the Premier League, one point behind Man Utd and two behind free spending Newcastle. They are also in front of Chelsea and Brighton whom everyone says is doing so well.
Let’s not forget the first major trophy 🏆 in 40 odd years last season. Our very own Freddie Potts will remember.
Barton knows what he's doing here, it might start as exasperation with being left behind in a changing world or just being annoyed by not being able to get his own way but I'd suggest he's firmly and deliberately put himself into the Hopkins/ Morgan world where there is clearly some money to be made.
Agree...like Lawrence Fox's followers sending Harrow educated member of famous wealthy actors money so he can have an expensive lunch in London to fight against wokeism.
David Icke is a millionaire based on touring the world promoting whatever loony conspiracy theory he can get his hands on...to those who lap it up.
There are enough people willing to cough up to make sure the likes of Barton, Robinson and Farage earn a good living appearing in the media claiming to be be saying what we all think...or about being cancelled.
Piers Morgan always manages to just stay this side of OFCOM, racism/sexism...mainly because so much of what he gets angry about is of no consequence to anyone...and he knows it. His unerring support of Trump ('Hey Mr President stop saying racist things or people might think you are a racist...') still rankles with me.
But I do agree that we are often asked to take a stand on things we have no information on or interest in that will have a minor effect on our lives nowadays by people wanting to be offended.
I agree but for every Spurs performance there is a Fulham or Liverpool right around the corner. Something is wrong at the club and if it wasn't for one or two players carrying the team they would be exposed.
I suspect they are doing alright for where they are and what they have, had a great season last time and not quite hitting after losing their best player and squabbling over how to replace him. Does seem likely they'll look to move on from Moyes at the end of the season, will probably hire him back again within the year if his exotic replacement doesn't work out.
I don't follow the Premier League much or West Ham so would be uneducated on specific games, however having just looked again at their season I see they are still in the last sixteen of the Europa League too, having just beaten Freiburg to win their group.
If they have two outstanding players then that's great, every team has important players, we would be in right trouble without Scowen and Low for instance.
Being potentially 6th - 9th at Xmas and still in the Europa League is about as high an achievement as Moyes is going to muster with his squad and budget. I reckon he's doing pretty well but as you said needs to be more consistent.

I love how Michael Owen has basically become Alan Partridge https://twitter.com/HITCSevens/status/1737475387133706468
Am sure most winners of said award get loads of criticism about it being undeserved.
But as per @floyd, the less time looking for outrage on twitter (x!) the happier you'll be.

Replacing misogyny with hating on people's religions...so inclusive and progressive!
Swing and a miss.

It was the sort of comment that'd fit in really well on twitter.
That's basically Arsenal vs Man City. I want both sides to lose.
You’d be furious if you were a West Ham fan and you’d taken half a day off work and spent goodness knows how much money to watch this wouldn’t you?

Schrodingers Moyes. Doing a great job and a terrible one in different people's eyes at the same time.

Isn't that every manager? It was certainly true of Gareth! 🙂
Only for absolutely colossal dimwits with Gareth
Eh? West Ham have done great this season. Spankings like that happen - Villa lost 5-1 to Newcastle on the opening day and look at them now.
