Have to say I was rather surprised looking it up that Stoke were in the Premier league for 10 years or so up to 2018. Had no recollection of that whatsoever! His choice. Seems a decent bloke, hope it works out for him.
Perhaps an indication of how much Gareth's stock has fallen with the QPR experience that there is no mention of him being a contender for the PLH job. They had quite a regard for him up until recently.
She is a relatively successful footballer and she has personality, which sets her apart from pretty much any of the current bunch of male footballers at the moment who aside from their haircuts and tattoos are an unremarkable bunch. It is refreshing to see the amount of talk amongst the ladies internationals about their being role models, something you would hear from those at the top of the men's game in the 80's since when there has been a definite reaction against them being personally responsible for anything other than the very narrow interests of themselves and sometimes their team.
No not remotely. I was genuinely surprised that Stoke had been in the PL for so long so recently. I imagine it’s hardly a secret so entirely my fault and failure of memory. I am be getting old.
Not at all - misogyny in football is as rife as other kinds of discrimination, and it doesn't help when the likes of Mr Barton open their gobs. I can think of several instances I've heard at games from Wycombe fans - you live in a very strange world if you're not aware of the problem.
Roger Bannister broke the four minute mile in 1954 and came second on that year's SPOTY. Which might explain why it's called 'personality' and not 'best'.
He really is DESPERATE to promote his career as a podcaster isn't he. I mean we have always known that the man is an utter cnut but he is now going down the route of being the poster boy for every day misogyny.
Cue some trashy outfit like Talk sport organising said 100 pen shoot out.
I'd expect some amateur keeper not to let in 100 against a top premier league striker, just on sheer laws of averages, let alone a retired midfielder taking them against a current pro keeper.
For instance, I wonder why they shoehorn Jill Scott into chats with Neville, Keane, Carragher and Wright, as she doesn't fit their dynamic at all.
But to make it a personal crusade anti women is just a bizarre campaign. One you could imagine saying to Barton, you know millions of people are reading your nonsense don't you?
Yes and yes - you don't have to look far. I'm not imagining anything - I've heard plenty of similar sentiment at Wycombe games, e.g. the bloke near me saying "you couldn't pay me to watch them" as our women's team did a lap of the pitch at AP last season.

You've still some way on the traditional journey of age.
That feeling when your club has a player younger than you.
When most of the players are younger than you.
When ALL of the players are younger than you
And so on.
I couldn't tell you who the other contenders were, but maybe the person thought someone else was more deserving of it?
Sons of players....
Managers AND their old experienced assistants...
Maybe, but one or two posters do have previous in that department.
And if they did think someone was more deserving, they'd probably say who.
Let's be honest, a female footballer winning SPOTY will have rattled a good section of the male population.

Not sure if you're being a smart arse or not about them being in the premier league but I put that as a possible reason for them going.
You live in a very strange world.

That's one giant leap- are you Neil Armstrong in disguise? Perhaps its possible they had a pony on another candidate?
Just to change tack before any Bartons arrive, I see the QPR docco is on Sky. Haven't seen it before...Worth a look?
Never really rated SPOTY but congrats to Mary Earps. Well deserved.
From Gaz's time?
No I think its the old one...when he was caretaker pre-wycombe

Great, now I am going to wonder whether he means 200 penalties on a Sunday, or just 2.
4 year plan?
It's hilarious, and well worth a watch, not sure if it's meant to be a comedy tbh. The Sunderland til I die people had clearly seen it.

Surely that’s a parody account?
Nope. 2.7million followers to boot!

Did Joey Barton take a single penalty during his career? Apart from the ones for attacking other players, gambling offences etc.
Disgraceful comment from Barton. Accountable to no one and just saying the outrageous to try and stay relevant.
Personal preference with pundits etc is fine.

Do you really think there are people ‘rattled,’ by a female footballer winning SPOTY? I can hardly type that sentence without chuckling.
Have you met anyone who has expressed this sentiment?
The worst way to tackle misogyny (or any prejudice) is to imagine it where it isn’t.
And that in a nutshell is why Mary Earps is SPOTY and Mr Barton is a useless bag of sh*t.

You don't know what you're talking about.
