I think we sat too deep once we switched to a back 5 inviting Derby onto us. Yes we were a bit under the cosh for a while before the subs, but that was due to some of our players having run themselves into the ground, sadly we cannot necessarily replace like for like at the moment.
When we drop to a back 3 we go to a flat back 5. The ray of sunshine was KVY pushing up. Something we haven’t done recently and it yielded results. If we can coach how to play a 3 it might work but we have to not make it a 5 at all times.
Goal scorers cost a lot of money. Taylors don’t appear to be the answer. TJ is not the answer. Hanlan wasn’t the answer. Do we stick or twist with Taylors in January I guess is the big question. I would prefer a quick guy to play off Vokes. Taylor D appears not quick enough and Taylor L appears to be not stable enough on his feet. I don’t know if Taylor L is going to come good but if we stick with him until May and he’s registered 2 or 3 goals I will be frustrated.
Been very critical of Wycombe of late but delighted with both the result and performance today.
The players are so much more suited to four at the back and appeared to relish playing in that system.
i thought our defensive performance was strong. We also seemed to show far more energy in attack than recently. We do miss a cutting edge in that regard but more positive today.
it would have been unjust if we lost today but it was heartening to see the fight to come back.
it was also good to see the likes of Grimmer taking on the home crowd. It showed they were not overawed.
A very positive day but it needs to be backed up next week.
If we can afford a new striker in January, I would like to see us go for Jake Young of Swindon Town. Jake has scored 16 goals this season and I believe he is on loan from Bradford.
We have a proven goalscorer in Lyle Taylor but he’s not getting chances. He had more of a sniff today but when we play in a five he’s a passenger. He doesn’t have pace to play over the top he doesn’t seem at all capable of holding up a ball with no strength at all unfortunately. He may work closer to Vokes. Maybe Saturday we will give it go.
Splashing the serious cash on Jake Young and playing him in a formation that doesn’t suit the player is a waste of money.
I don’t think clubs will be queuing up to sign Lyle Taylor on the strength of what they’re seen so far but, as @Commoner said earlier, another two or three games on and we could be seeing someone much more like the goalscorer we remember.
@Frome_Blue: Vokes and Hanlan won’t fire us up the table unfortunately as the latter seems unlikely to return from injury before the end of the season.
I trust you were making that comment in good faith.
Extremely late to the thread today, watched from abroad with Derby commentators who pretty much felt it was a fair result as they didn’t really do enough to beat us.
Well done to MB and the boys, they got a lot right today against the leagues in form team.
A terrific point and I hope for 2 things.
1) None of our travelling fans left early
2) That is the penalty kick that begins to turn around our season
After 18 months out the game I guess he was wanting to see if he wanted to play football again let alone if others wanted him.
He might decide it’s not for him. Today was the first time I thought his effort levels were encouraging. He just looks so far off sharpness I’m not convinced he will regain it.
Better stat than shots on target, shots off target or possession stats to get an idea of which team created the better chances. But as Matt Bloomfield said we need to convert our chances.
Great result today. However not sure where the goals are coming from. I know Taylor has been out a long time but not sure he’s the answer. Vokes coming back from injury but not convinced he will score many. The other Taylor doesn’t looks unconvincing. The next run of fixtures give us an opportunity to pick up points but we need goals .

Agreed and for me the more worrying factor now is our inability to score we certainly need a front man in January.
Lyle Taylor doesn’t appear to be the answer.
In the last two years at Konyaspor and Port Vale Uche has played 29 scored 0.
No idea what his xG is.

There were shoots there today with Lyle. Another two or three games and I think he will be unrecognisable from what we have now.
His work rate went up a notch after 20-25 minutes and we started to see what he could offer. I’m excited about what might happen.
That sounds very promising.
We know Lyle did well with Bayo alongside him, but then you can add many a name to that list.
But does anyone know what system he did so well in with Charlton? Was that in a 2? With a bigger target man, or quicker small man?

Calm down lads. Vokes and Hanlan will fire us up the table.
I don't think a back 5 is the answer, we were good today with a 4, but a 5 had to be the answer at the point MB switched to it
I’ve got a sneaking suspicion Lyle’s contract ends at the end of 2023, freeing him up for a better move in the transfer window.
His xG is exactly the same as Harry Kane's if the same chances fell to him
Quite how people find it a meaningful measure of anything without a ton of extra context is beyond me

January 2nd is a Tuesday which means the Georgian takes over and we sign (the best player willing to drop to League One. Jesse Lingard??)
It clearly is beyond you, yet you can't stop talking about it.

If that's his plan it's looking a bit optimistic on performances.
In his Wanderers TV interview, Lyle Taylor said that he hoped to remain at the club a lot longer than January.
Is that wrong then, what I've said?
To be honest, I think all stats are there for people who don't really understand football to help them chat to people about it
Just dropping a quick note to say that I really like Toby’s co-comms on WTV. He’s a natural. Interprets the game well too. Seems a top bloke.
Excellent result and I am happy to lose points in the prediction league. Onwards and upwards.
Spot on Wenders, top man

Well sure. Apart from more ‘minutes in the legs,’ he’s not exactly put himself in the shop window.
