As an exile I actually have a look at the website sometimes and would go as far as saying the Bucks Free Press is THE most embarrassing local paper in the country.
This week the headline is about a few people getting done for marginal speeding offences. They use those embarrassing stock pictures of a copper or whatever Is related to the articles. The writers insist on using the weird full HIGH Wycombe when mentioning the town however awkward it may sound. Half the main news stories are advertising blurbs. None of the writers seem to have ever been in South Bucks or know anyone there.
To think that the paper was a pretty good local paper as recently as the 90s.
It's like it's written by a gaggle of sixth form girls who know sod all about anything. What happened?
"It's like it's written by a gaggle of sixth form girls who know sod all about anything. What happened?"
Someone invented the internet, and blogs, webpages and social media, "News" became available for free in your hand seconds after it happened and could be micro-segmented to appeal to whatever people wanted from it and became largely unregulated as regulations failed to fit or keep up, print media became mostly unprofitable and realised it could make more money as a mouthpiece of a specific side or interest group and everybody either shouted that they were right a lot and forgot the point of journalism, went bust or merged so that 2 people could do the job of 100s.
Fairly depressing really, sorry if the aim was divert from the football in that
Comments
"Wycombe will play their first league match at home on a Saturday this weekend when they take on Stevenage"
Astonishing.
"Steve is something that I have a lot of respect for"
😂
I think I'd rather read that too.
Page 2 of this thread won't load. Must be due all the BFP ads.
Neither will Page 1.
Maybe the website became sentient and died of shame?
That's gold
To think I bothered to enter this thread to point out the "Matte" Bloomfield typo.
Missed the above. But I I scan read these days.

Back in the day I knew a few sixth form girls from Wycombe High and Lady Verney, believe me they did know stuff about somethings😉
Internet eh...Best check that out.
Who knew the collective noun for Wycombe sixth form girls was 'gaggle'
There was certainly another "joke" in there so I'm glad you went for this one!
What is the collective noun for gasroomers I wonder?
Gassers sounds a bit Bristol Rovers
Posters?
A furore of Gasroomers
Aye, like that
I was thinking 'stench of gasroomers'
A squabble?
A labour......
I have taken to calling threatening-looking groups of youths on street corners 'a loiter'
One of the best books you can possibly read on the state of the news industry.
I'd not come across it before. Will have to check it out.
