The brilliance of our comms and co-comms
I know we point out during match threads how good our comms is (and during the Championship season, Middlesbrough fans who were accidentally tuned in to our comms asked if they could transfer for @bluntphil and co) but I wanted a thread to highlight just how brilliant it has been to have the players on. As far as I can tell, we have had JJ, JMac, GMac, Nick Freeman, Jack Grimmer, Sam Vokes (I think?), Jasper Pattenden, Darius Charles and others I am sure I have forgotten. From what Phil and Jack were saying recently, it sounds as though KVY may be lined up too once Grimmer is back in the team.
Player or ex-player insights are always great (the old boys like Danny Senda coming on are always fantastic) but it has been such a joy to hear from current players. I am not sure if other clubs do this (and if so, to what degree) but it really adds to the experience from afar to hear the chemistry of the different players.
I also think it may be testament to our club, so focused on encouraging individuals to be themselves, that so many current players have taken the plunge and picked up a mic. They have been fascinating to a man, and some of them could have a career in broadcasting if we ever move away from the current cliche-laden setups on other televised commentary teams!
It really is a brilliant tradition we have built up, and as someone that has to watch (almost) every game from afar, I have to applaud the club for somehow becoming even more relatable!

I love Phil
I've been thinking about posting on this subject a lot, but obviously wouldn't have done it as eloquently as @Shev. Grimmer on co-comms has been absolutely brilliant to listen to, sounds like a real double act has built up between him and Phil and as much as I want to see him fit, healthy and playing, I'll really miss listening to him.
I 'heart' Phil too - he has really grown into his role as Mr Wanderers TV, and not afraid to ask the big questions at times whilst keeping other elements light and nicely irreverent. One of Rob's best signings...
Matt is great too... We are blessed!
I like his hat
Phil is genuinely such a brilliant commentator. As for co-comms…naturally Bill was something special (I will always remember the passion when he was on and Blooms scored - can’t remember the actual game but just remember grinning from ear to ear hearing it). Senda was also fantastic, as was McGleish.
Freeman’s “yesssss” when we scored was iconic too.
Would love to hear some more ex-players sitting behind the mic with Phil. Bayo naturally would be great.
I really wish I had kept a written record of my favourite quips from Phil and his co-comms, as there have been so many. Phil and Bill (or Catch and Turn, as someone labelled them) had such a great chemistry, and that has carried on with so many other co-commentators in their own ways. I also always like Matt Cecil being on, as he is such a walking compendium of anything regarding Wycombe.
I would definitely second @Gary's suggestion of Bayo on co-comms! Others I would love to see back are Marcus Bean and David Stockdale, among others, and among current squad members who have not picked up the mic yet I would definitely love Taff and Leahy on there!
I think they should select one Gasroomer at random every week to join Phil
Can't wait for @LX1s turn
As one of the few Gasroomers with previous actual experience of doing commentary at Adams Park, I'll put my hand up for that.
Might not be the most popular choice, though.
I’d vote for @trevor
I assuming this was for the rugger though!
It was a mini-rugby demonstration as pre-match entertainment before Wycombe v Brentford in L2 in about 1993. The U10s played across the width of the pitch at the terrace end, and someone shoved a radio mike into my hand and told me to give a running commentary.
Just heard Sam Vokes interviewed on the Today Programme about Wales's latest international. Both forthright and eloquent. Get him on co-comms while injured please!
Would have been later than 1993
I commentated with Phil at Fratton Park on Boxing Day 2019. It was an honour 🫡
You are quite right, it was 10 September 1994, and the score in the football was Wycombe 4 Brentford 3.
brilliant game that. The Regis-Garner partnership was at its superb best
Still hasn't answered why we have white and blue nets instead of light and dark blue nets @bluntphil
Otherwise whole heartedly agree on the excellence of the comms.
Phil is way better than many 'big league' commentators, my particular bête noir being - and this isn't a dig at female commentators generally - Vicki Sparks. That voice! Aaaaaaaaaagh!
I would love to hear Dannie Bulman on commentary. Still lives local, has/had his own football show so used to being behind the mic and over 20 years of playing experience in the professional game - I think he would have a lot to talk about.
Thanks @bluntphil for making this happen!
Of all the co-comms that I've heard my favourites are (in no order)
Bill Turnbull
Danny Senda
Brian Jeeves
Alicia Povey
Nick Freeman
Jack Grimmer
to be fair all the current players who through injury have taken to the mic & gantry have all made a decent fist of it
