Dave Carroll has to be on both "best" and "favourites" list, a fantastic player. How we could do with him now, delivering crosses to Vokes and generally creating. MON described him as a "sit back and relax" player, only good would come of him having the ball.
Would closely agree with this for the "favourites" team, although I'd not have Johnson in there, probably Mawson, even for his short time. Or Evans, a cult hero and another of those incredible characters we had in the non league into early league days period, or the late McCarthy.
Keith Scott played (and scored) in the premier league and you wrote him off as well
Dave Carroll and Steve Thompson (for example) may never have played higher than (what is now called) League One but you'd have to have a pretty limited understanding of how good they were to think they were not capable of playing higher up the leagues
It's also well documented that were it not for his knee injury that John Gregory would have taken Keith Ryan to Aston Villa with him when he moved there as manager
Of the current side/squad I'd say that JJ is an absolute shoo-in with a few of the others having strong claims as well, notably Scowen, McCleary and Vokes
@eric_plant its basically ‘who did you grow up watching,’ isn’t it? Which players were in their prime when you still regarded footballers as intergalactic superstars.
There are so many, but that promotion to the football league team, and the couple of seasons after just refuse to go from my memory. If anyone has anything bad to say about Dave Carroll, Jason Cousins and Keith Ryan, I'm basically coming for you !!!
But so many great players then and since, I also idolised Simon Garner, Nathan Tyson and now Josh Scowen. So all in all a pretty impossible task
Yeah there's a bit of that but I also appreciate how lucky we are so have seen the recent vintage such as Vokes, McCleary et al
Sod it, I've picked three sides (1st, 2nd and 3rd teams - no loanees allowed). I think any one of them would get promoted. First one would get over 100 points

Steve Thompson is a starter in Wycombe's greatest XI of all time and this is a hill I'm prepared to die on
Scott, Cousins and Carroll also very worthy candidates for consideration
Maybe a best vs favourite XI?
Sergio gets in my favourite but doesn’t make the bench in my best. As does Sido.
In the spirit of Chairfolk cynicism there should also be a worst ever XI
Garner.

A cult hero 11 would have Sergio as the first pick.
Not sure Thompson makes the RAF greatest XI let alone Wycombe Wanderers
Ray Wilkins makes the best, worst and cult XI

Alex Jakubiak
Thommo was another of our all-time greats, a wonderful player and in my best XI.
Jason Cousins, David Carroll, Keiths' Ryan and Scott, Brownie but for me neither Michael Duberry nor James Harper.
Taylor: Cousins JJ Williamson Johnson; Carroll Ryan Brown Guppy: Tyson Devine
I loved Cousins, Carroll, Ryan etc, but it's a difficult argument to say any of them are the "best" player we've had in that position.
When others in their position have played at the highest or at least a higher level etc.
Would closely agree with this for the "favourites" team, although I'd not have Johnson in there, probably Mawson, even for his short time. Or Evans, a cult hero and another of those incredible characters we had in the non league into early league days period, or the late McCarthy.

Your worst ever post.
In the very autumn of his career Dave Carroll could still do things with a ball most players at our level could scarcely dream of.
Peak Jason Cousins would walk into our current starting XI
Keith Ryan is what every Wycombe team has lacked since Keith Ryan retired.
Picking the XI is a nigh on impossible task as you'd have to leave out so many good players
For example, I'd say there is room for only one of Carroll, Betsy, Currie and McCleary
Sod choosing between that lot, it's like being asked to pick which child you love the most. Harder, if anything
Only one out of Scott, Rammell, Akinfenwa and Vokes probably. Impossible.
When you start to think about it though, it does make you realise how lucky we've been to see so many wonderful players over the years
Of the current side/squad I'd say that JJ is an absolute shoo-in with a few of the others having strong claims as well, notably Scowen, McCleary and Vokes

Aye, we’re so lucky.
