Jeff Stelling's Football Marathon March - Sunday 17th September
A good number of Chairboys fans, including myself and other Trust Directors plus club staff are taking part in this special event, walking from Wembley Stadium to Adams Park, Wycombe.
The 'Football March' , led by Jeff Stelling, is in honour of the late Bill Turnbull, just a year after he passed away, and will raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK as well as increase awareness of the need for men over 50 to get tested for what can be a deadly condition, often for which you have no symptoms of any trouble.
I understand that the group of over 300 walkers, will also include a member of the late David Roberton's family, ensuring that David's memory lingers on and that 'he' is with us on the day.
A team Just Giving page has been set up https://www.justgiving.com/team/wycombe-staff where you can make a donation in the name of any participant. If you are registered to do the walk and have not yet joined this WW team, you can do so on that page.
If anyone would like to join us, there may still be a few places available, but don't delay as you do need to get all the details and do the training! You can enquire about participation here https://prostatecanceruk.org/get-involved/football-march
Thanks to everyone who has already donated.
This is going to be a special day and I look forward to getting over the finish line, somehow!

Good luck everyone
Thanks Alan, I’m marching so will join the team and link my page. Hope to see fellow Gasroomers there, even if I have no idea who you are.
I'll be there too if the legs will carry me (Laziness and fondness for beer permitting, not age or injury)
Really good amounts being raised, do chip in if you can.
I've donated, but won't be undertaking the walk, too far at my age.
Well done and good luck to all who are going.
Thanks for the reminder Alan. I saw this advertised previously but forgot to donate as I will be in Poznan for the Poznan derby. Warta v Lech in Grodzisk Wielkopolski (That was a copy and paste job)
Thank you - every donation will go to a very good cause and enhance the campaign for better awareness , testing and treatment.
Wandering in a Wycombe wonderland
Please read https://prostatecanceruk.org/about-us/news-and-views/2023/07/wandering-in-a-wycombe-wonderland
Lots of WWFC fans doing this Marathon Football March. If you feel able to support any of them with a donation, please go to https://www.justgiving.com/team/wycombe-staff
The club also put this out recently which was very nice https://www.wwfc.com/news/2023/august/23/countdown-is-on-to-the-march-from-wembley-to-wycombe/
Some people are happier being publicly known than others on here but the donations all go to the same place so please pick one of the walkers (that you recognise or just anyone) and donate if you are able
Am I misunderstanding the Just Giving site or do they effectively take a minimum of 10% and suggest a higher % of donated cash for their own costs? If that is the case I would give directly - as it seems excessive - if I have misunderstood would be happy to receive clarification
It says "JustGiving won't be charging a platform fee to the charity. Adding a small tip on top of your donation means we can continue to help more people."
You CAN add a tip for which they say "Your tip will be used to maintain the technology that keeps our site running 24/7, provide top notch customer service and give everyone the best possible experience with JustGiving."
Hope that helps. You can donate directly to PCUK through their website but any donations to any of us taking part will help encourage our training and participation. Thanks
How's training going @AlanCecil ? From a very late start have been doing a bit more, managed 8 miles this morning without too many issues
Was doing ok, till a 'pain in the bum' affected me a couple of days ago. Might be sciatica but I am seeing someone who knows about these things tomorrow.
Longest practice walk so far has been about 8.7 miles which was ok at the time!
All the best.
The bit I’m worried most about is the midway stop and coach from one section to another. Done 3 over 20 now and I hate stopping. Stiffness sets in, even though I eat standing, and the next couple of miles are unpleasant. I have a fear of me not being able to get off the bloody coach to get rolling again 😂
But I’ll get there - her indoors, having had to drive me to Wembley for 6 AM, may look askance on any request to collect me from inside the M25.
Where are you seeing that @Manboobs? Is there a guide I've missed somewhere?
There will be an email in your inbox. I’m worried about the same thing. Fit son suggests not sitting down on the coach, but not sure if they’ll allow that
Found it, thanks both, will be a bit weird but a bit of food and a stop might be welcome too, good to see at least that there's a bit of prep going in to it and it seems well run
Wycombe fans are out training for this, several times a week, seeking to walk the marathon on Sept 17th to honour the life of Bill Turnbull.
If you feel you can spare anything to help their fundraising for the Prostate Cancer Charity, then please go to https://www.justgiving.com/team/wycombe-staff
Thanks to everyone who has already donated.
Lovely touch by the club (sorry if this is whiteknighting)

Good to know they don't just point you in the right direction and say 'Go'!
Well done and good luck everyone!
Sadly I have had to pull out of the walk due to a metatarsal injury (I didn’t know metatarsals existed until a certain Wayne Rooney injured his). Training was in vain, but the cause certainly isn’t so please support these guys if you can. Good luck to Wanderers fans taking part.
Shame you can't join us AP but there are still a good number of WWFC fans taking up the challenge and their fundraising has topped £9000.
Anyone can add a donation in the name of any WW participant here https://www.justgiving.com/team/wycombe-staff
A 'welcome back' party would be great as we walk the last few yards along Hillbottom Road on Sunday night, hopefully around 6.30-7pm
Sorry to hear that, hope it heals quickly
Your starring role in Dave Carroll’s testimonial a few years back probably didn’t help. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Thanks for the good wishes guys. Ironically, I think I did it playing football, now of the walking variety because of my, ahem, advanced years. I’m investigating joining the March for the final stages although that feels like cheating.
That’s a tremendous effort by fans.
As someone who has survived a remarkable number of years with prostate cancer, including a terminal prognosis just over two years ago when it had metastased into bone, the least/most I can do is to click on the link and chip in with a donation.
A year or so ago (?) @railwaysteve and I were discussing what kind of message we should put on the Gasroom aimed at encouraging men “of a certain age” to ask their GPS for a PSA blood test.
I believe there has been a significant increase in the meantime in the number of men doing just that. Obviously the result of much wider (nationwide) efforts to increase awareness but there were also a few on the Gasroom who posted that they had asked their GP for a test following the messages Steve and I put on.
Good luck to all you brave souls walking the walk on Sunday. As the resident weather man, I’ve ordered a bright, dry day with a temperature around 21 degrees Celsius.
Hope all goes well.
I was amazed that having had quite a few blood tests for another condition over the the previous months, that I discovered they hadn't been checking my PSA levels!! Considering I was 64 at the time, I just presumed that it would be an automatic thing. Apparently not, moral of the story is, if you are having a blood test anyway, check & make sure that they do!!!!
I asked for one under pressure from the Gasroom 😉 and my (admittedly poor quality) surgery asked Why?
'As I am 60 and never had one and my Dad died of it just before covid having suffered for years I thought it might be wise.'
Given my age why they just don't say yes I have no idea.
Get tested folks!
Outrageous.
The only time I get any proper contact with them as when they text me every week about being closed for staff training.
I always thought a doctor was already trained...and not sure where they are sending the receptionists but if it's to improve customer service and show some compassion, they should ask for their money back.
