I loved the glowing terms the guy from Pro-Academy talked about the set up at Wycombe, the club really has created a positive vibe about the development squad set-up
Much easier to find information about Ben Kaninda than it is for Antoine Makoli.
Kaninda seems likely to be on a faster track than Makoli. He’s already clearly a big unit, a month or so short of his 19th birthday, and (to his delight) featured on the bench for Shrewsbury last season. He’s (not surprisingly) a central defender.
Makoli is a right back, a position where we are well served at present.
Could Kaninda be on the bench this evening, I wonder.
i don’t expect that, no. But I also don’t see the point in paying money to 10 players in the hope one makes it before leaving on a paltry release fee either.
I've no idea on the numbers and what pressure it has to hit a profit, but you'd imagine they pay relative buttons to these guys.
In return we have a lot higher numbers around the squad for filling in friendly and bigger sided games.
If we can produce 1 or 2 a season who can get into our first team squad, and maybe sell one every season or so, that'll probably be classed as success.
The worry of course is that we hit gold with Mehmeti, silver with Forino, and there's absolutely no guarantee we'll even hit bronze again.
Having the pleasure of seeing Mehmeti play for our team and then getting over £1m for his transfer to Bristol City is justification in itself for the development squad. I’m sure you rate Forino who may also earn the club a lot of money one day. The percentage of young players who fail to earn contracts with professional clubs is very high and we have produced two in three years, well above average.
It’s a percentage game. We sign x number of players and y number of players will either go on and play for us and or generate cash.
We are also helping young players to get a football education and maybe get them a place on the football ladder elsewhere as opposed to the football wilderness.
I think it’s a great scheme. And with Anis, Forino and AAH2.0 it’s proved it’s worth.

Welcome to the club Ben & Antoine!
Great stuff, welcome!
We wouldn't have Mehmeti or Forino without the development squad!

He did better than that. Centre back alongside Wakely (who has spent more time up front wide and cutting into the box than defending).
Kaninda ok but clearly very green. Big guy.
I get very excited about development signings, each and every one of them could be the next Anis or Forino
the Development model and the way the club is heading is something I’m really proud of
I really enjoy watching the development players, Gaz and Dobbo clearly see potential. Pattenden seemed good against Bristol City.
Looking around Twitter tonight for all the excitement of our development squad I still miss an early round of the FA Youth Cup.
Welcome aboard, it’s exciting times for me .
Ben Kaninda kept a clean sheet according to the clubs twitter. Didn't know he was a keeper...
Is Makoli the first Antoine to play for Wycombe?
Antoine Vircavs ??
You are probably correct Mr Senda.
I think I preferred your Wanderers82 stuff.
The difficult second Gasroom nickname
I had always thought he was Anton Vircavs. Wonderful centre back either way. 😊
It was Anton @Cyclops
No-one ever really knew how to pronounce his surname, so they usually left it as just Anton, or Vickers.
Believe it was actually pronounced Vix-ouse.
As a kid i used to laugh out loud at John Goldsworthy announcing Anton Vic's House each week, wondering how could he have got it so terribly wrong...

Makoli leaves to join Hyde United
Sorry to be brutal but yet another development squad failure.
If you expect loads of these guys to become regulars in a league 1 outfit, then you probably need to re-set your expectations down a bit.

It's not just about the eventual transfer fee. We got 2 great seasons out of Anis, and it looks like 3 seasons or more out of Forino.
