Lovely sunny morning in Hove for today’s showcase game, Sussex v Bucks. Match starts at 11am and is being streamed live by Sussex CCC.
@A_Worboys Is there anyone of note playing for Sussex? Someone like Archer playing? I hope Alsop is there as he's from Wycombe himself! Also James Coles is from Aylesbury and Steven Finn's from Watford (I know thats Herts before anyone points out its not Bucks!)
Sussex have won the toss & will bat.
@Otter87 Alsop is batting no.3 for Sussex.
Sussex 2-1. Rogers run out 0.
Sorry I don't really understand what a showcase" match is or what it is for. As far as I can see it is a friendly and have to say, not wishing to denigrate it, based on your pictures doesn't seem to be showcasing whatever it is supposed to be to very many people. What is the aim of these things?
Do you think there is any prospect of introducing a promotion/relegation system (with playoff if necessary) between Div2 of the big boys league and Div 1 of the minor counties?
I can’t see that ever happening
A tad mean-spirited!
From the NCCA website:
“The Showcase Games are a fantastic opportunity for the National Counties to test themselves against the best players in the country.
With every County hosting a First Class team these fixtures will not only showcase the huge pool of talent within the National Counties, but the hundreds of people that put such huge amounts of effort into recreational cricket across the UK.”
Seems honourable and valid to me.
Sorry that wasn't my intent at all.
Can't say I follow county cricket at all closely so was genuinely interested what the point was of these matches and whether they are much valued by either the first class or the minor county or whether they are a money spinner for the smaller team. If they are, great.
The First Class Counties value them as warm up games for the Royal London One Day Cup, which is going on today. The National Counties get a rare chance to play the First Class Counties, and some make some money out of it. Playing at Hove suited both Sussex and Bucks.
Lunchtime score.
Bucks 24-1 in reply. A J Woodland back in the pavilion.
I thought he was keeper?
Sussex win by 115 runs.

Seems like Bucks never really had a hope in hell of winning.....
He is but that doesn't decide where they bat
There's always hope but the Sussex batting and bowling was very good, they were better. Last year Bucks deservedly beat Surrey.
Depressing how Sussex ccc actually have changed their emblem to a shark.
It's nearly as bad as some kid from High Wycombe wearing a Manchester United shirt
I saw a kid in Wycombe wearing a Man City shirt the other day. Disturbing.
A few years ago there was a kid in Chalfont St Peter wearing a Blackburn Rovers shirt. They had just won the Prem.
A few years ago. That was before I retired 28 years ago!
It wasn’t me BTW.
That's just for the one day side, the four day side are still Sussex CCC, with their traditional emblem depicting six Martlets.
On Saturday a dad was taking two sons to the game....one in a Man City shirt and one in a Man U shirt!
