I think that’s quite smart. The club obviously see ‘something,’ about him, but he needs to be playing. Hopefully he has a great year there and comes back ready for L1 football in 24/25.
Seems a sensible move. From what I've seen he has all the attributes to be a very good player, he just needs regular games to put it all together. He'll hopefully get that opportunity at Ebbsfleet and we'll have something closer to the finished article at the end of the season. Mind you, the 1 year deal seems odd! I assume we have some sort of extension clause, not sure how these things work?
Did they quote 1 year? If there's no clause/agreement for a 2nd year it does seem a bit odd to basically send him out for the whole length of his contract?
Gut feel suggesting this is a smart move. Quite likely that they’re covering a large part of the wages and that we have a recall clause. Potentially, we have a 1 year extension clause too if things go well - like TJ De Barr. Believe Wakely is of the age where we would have to register him, so offers up an opportunity to register someone else if our squad is deep enough in due course. All feels smart/sensible to me.
So we’ll be selling him at that point as according to Rob we’ll be in the Championship and according to our loyal Facebook supporters we’ll be in League 2.
But as I think we’ll be in league 1 and ready to push on in 24/25 with a settled manager and players who fit his philosophy I also think this is a smart move.
Yes seems a good move all round. Wakely desperately needs regular first team football to show whether he’s good enough for regular first team level in the EFL.
As a footballing centre-half who’s best in a back three, I think he’ll like it at Ebbsfleet under their German manager Dennis Kutrieb as they’re a really good passing side.
Good for Jack, good for Wycombe and good for Ebbsfleet. Only shame really is that we didn’t do it 12 months ago.
You’d imagine we would have a recall clause for the January window in case the loan works out really well (and we’re short) or alternatively it doesn’t work out at all.
Also more than likely there’s an option to extend the contract for a further year. Surely no way you’d take the risk of him having an outstanding season and then having no ability to retain his services.
I think I’m right in saying he can still play for us in the Pizza Cup, anyone remember the rules on that?
Looking through the squad list there will a couple of candidates for similar loans I'm guessing. Four or five players almost ready for 1st team football but not quite? Or a big chance for them to breakthrough? I just can't see us wanting to start with a bench of un-tested rookies.
When I was v young there was a tv programme ‘The Billy Cotton Band Show’. He came on screen holding his had alongside his mouth and shouting “Wakely Wakely” or something like that. @micra will remember it.
Might be related if it's content from the website but looks ok here and looks like Twitter are having issues, which happens when you buy a company then sack three quarters of the people who work there.
I only remember the radio show in the late ‘forties/early ‘fifties on the Light Programme (which became Radio 2 in 1968). It was indeed The Billy Cotton Band Show and each show opened with him shouting “Wakey Wakey”. Lively stuff as you will hear:

Yeah I agree, I have no problem with this move at all
Seems a low risk, high reward type deal.
I bet we have a recall clause if we have an injury crisis at CB.

Can't imagine we've ever done that before?
Good call. Don't want the same that happened to Al Hamidi at Wimbledon

Not sure I’d bet on it but I’d certainly hope so.

you'll never win anything with kids
I think you can only recall in January
I think you're right about the Pizza Cup. What a very strange competition it is!
Is there some distinction of where you loan a player?
Say a certain tier?
Surely you couldn't loan a player to someone else in league 1, and then field them against that club if you drew them?
Worth trying - it might do us a favour and get us kicked out
There must be, but who knows.
I imagine there's a rule that would prevent us playing a potential Crystal Palace loanee against them. Or indeed, for them against us!
Love the idea of us loaning a player to Palace!
Had one of the better player chants from the terraces

Strange, I always thought it was "have I told you Wakely that I love you?"

A player on loan from Palace to Wycombe Wanderers, playing for Palace U21s against Wycombe Wanderers in the Pizza Cup.
Off to a good start: https://twitter.com/EUFCofficial/status/1675100835313774592?s=20
Not sure if it's just me, but can't view twitter for Wycombe at the moment, same as our website.
Maybe it only works if viewed abroad for some reason!?

His son, Sir Bill Cotton CBE, was BBC Head of Light Entertainment (1970-77) and Controller of BBC1 (1977-1981).
And his daughter in law was Dot Cotton!
🤣 This thread will soon have me in stitches.
