I know marginal gains all add up, but it's a struggle to see this makes any real odds either way isn't it?
If linesmen always lined up on the right back's half, you could say us holding the away dugout gave us slightly better range to try and get after the linesman, but they don't do they? If anything they usually line up on the left back side?
I think the dugout swap was part of the Ainsworth drive to change the culture and to be accepted as the gaffer, instead of one of the lads which he seemed to be the season before, when he struggled to handle players like Dean Morgan etc. He (GA), just wanted things changed to reflect a new start after our nearly disastrous season the year before.
Linesmen usually run the line alongside a team's left back don't they? So would actually be the reverse of your theory? Unless it's changed since Ainsworth did this?
I was told this by someone ‘in the know’ and just accepted it. Don’t have much recall of where linesmen are but I feel like there’s usually one in front of me to shout at in block Q of the FA.

Hope we need a dugout when the season starts....
I used to quite like watching Steve Evans having a meltdown...
Apparently T*** A**** was the last manager to do this
It's how they were in MON's time.
Never mind changing the dugouts. I want to know have we got a team for the new season
didn't Ainsworth change them and Blooms has changed them back?
If it ensures a few easier seen waves to the crowd a season, it's worth its weight in gold.
That's the biggest win this pre-season I reckon.
So far it's about the only win
5 weeks to the first game, it's only June. Appreciate what you've got. 40 years ago we were losing to the Cock and Splash pub team etc.
Always think positive. Always.
I think so
What was the idea of swapping the dugouts the "wrong" way round?
So the away bench was 10metres further away from their fans so their management couldn't "rouse" their fans?
'Cock and splash pub team etc' is a good name for a podcast
If this allows the team to engage more with the home crowd, surely it does exactly the same for the away team with the away crowd?

That's what I was thinking
Oh goodness - more proof that when @aloysius types, the club listens...
Thank you Sir Matt Bloomfield. I'm very grateful.
Now, did I mention how I always like it best when we play a 4-4-2 formation....?
I think Ainsworth swapped them in 2014-15.
Always remember the home dugout being closest to the terrace prior to that.
What was Ainsworths reason for swapping it the other way out of interest?
It was switched by GA so they could get in the assistant’s ear, as they tended to run the line in front of the press box.
Same dimensions as Wembley
That's what she said
Ainsworth swapped the dugouts at the start of the season we signed Alfie, Murphy, JJ etc. God knows why.
Change of scenery!
It wasn't because he wanted to be further away from the terrace post-Torquay season then?

It was probably something as simple as not wanting to walk as far in snakeskin boots.
Well.... a colourful selection of answers to my question....
Thank you all.... I guess?
