Giro d'Italia
I know there are a few cycling fans on here and the Tour de France thread threw up some great stuff last year, so I thought I'd start one for this year's Giro - which starts tomorrow. I usually lose the Giro in the chaos of the end of the football season, but I'm determined to follow it this year!

Makes a change from the usual 'summer Lionel Ritchie windups' 😉
Is it on ITV4 again? I usually miss it for similar reasons to you but I always watch TDF. Will try to keep up with the Giro this year since the season is over for us already.
Eurosport unfortunately, although S4C are showing it live if you don't mind Welsh commentary / watching on mute! Highlights out to be free, although not sure which channel has them.
I found this - https://tourdefranceontv.co.uk/itv-giro-d-italia/ - £6.99 for the Eurosport coverage.
What's this? Lionel Ritchie rides a bike around Italy for £6.99?
Would watch
needs a better title but would definitley watch
Giro de Lionel?
'Dancing and Freewheeling'
I like recycling does that count?
Velo, Is It Me You’re Looking For?
superb
Put this in the notebook for poty awards @drcongo
GCN+ is £39 a year. Phenomenal value if you like your cycling.
I don’t think ITV have ever had the Giro. It’s a shame - although GCN/Eurosport have a great presenting team, they can’t touch ITV’s highlights package. Unlike GCN/Eurosport, that understands the importance of narrative in cycling coverage.
Just found this: Looks like the highlights are on Freeview at 7pm every day, if you have access to channel 39 called "DMAX".
Ah yes, that rings a bell
I never knew Lionel Richie spoke Welsh, every day a school day on the Gasroom.
Super start for Tao 🚴♂️
Great pun, that.
I've tried to get into the tour de France a few times, but never really understood how it works. I assume the Giro is along the same lines. Can someone give a brief idiot's guide please?
I’ll have a go!
It’s three weeks long like the Tour.
There may be up to four winners, who might not have even won a single race stage.
General Classification Winner: the rider with the lowest aggregate time across the event. That’s the Yellow Jersey in the TDF - in the Giro, it’s pink. Riders can lower their aggregate time by getting time bonuses by winning a stage and also being placed at a specified point in the day’s racing. Riders who finish in a group get the same time as the first who crosses the finish line.
Points winner: the rider with the most points awarded for being placed at the end of each stage plus at an intermediate point along the way. Green jersey in the TDF, mauve in the giro.
King of the mountains: the rider who gets the most points from being placed over the top of hills. Polka dot jersey in the TDF, blue at the Giro.
Young rider: like the first one, but under 25 years of age. White jersey in both TDF and Giro.
There’s also a team classification winner, but no-one cares about that.
Thanks @arnos_grove
I suspect my interest wains during the early stages when it's flat. Before they start killing themselves up mountains with crazy people waving things in front of them
Today's stage was pretty crazy
Our boys are sitting pretty.
Very solid indeed from Geraint and Tao today
Both looking strong
Unfortunate for Remco, but Thomas goes into pink!
No mention on this thread so far of British rider Charlie Quarterman. From Oxfordshire, but surely a closet Chairboy?
Charlie went for glory from 4km to go today. But, reeled in all too quickly. Tao out, sadly. Cav so close to stage win. Geraint leading. Another quiet day.
What a ride from Roglic. A mechanical and still victorious.
