Luke Oliver got pushed up front at a home game when we were chasing a point, I do recall being amazed at what a great distance between him and the ball he could achieve ove the last 5/10 minutes. He was a big imposing defender who couldnt jump, perhaps being so tall he hadnt needed to at his previouse level.
The following day I recommended a jumping coach to the club, he was never approached.
Interesting recall.... I had a quick look, and the 2 I can find, in probably the grainiest footage ever, were a well hit pen and an easy (non post) finish
Rob Lee moved at the pace of melting snow but was so good I don't recall ever seeing him being tackled as he'd passed beautifully long before anyone got near him, pleasure to watch
All I remember about Claridge is him saying the wages were barely covering the petrol.
We laugh, but at one point Adams was reportedly offering Simpemba something like £12.5k a year to sign on. Such a paltry wage that he was quoted as instead choosing non league and working in a warehouse!
Also didn't he get about 700 Eire U21 caps, without ever particularly looking the business in our team?
Also wasn't he part of Adams' mad experiment of a teenage back 4?
Although in fairness one of them was the epic Steven Taylor!
But Taylor and Moore, as lovely as it was to have their pure quality, smacked of an Adams ego trip to show who he could attract. Rather than it being any actual benefit to a relegation team to have 1 month loans of 17/18 year olds!
Tyson and Moore was a decent partnership and Taylor was probably as good as any loanee we've ever had. Adams problem wasn't them, it was falling out with, and then clearing out everyone else the year before. Have vague memories of a pre season game where it was obvious he had left us with almost nothing and didn't have a clue about anything at our level. Attracting young players from higher up including Blooms was probably the only good thing he did. Possibly not what we needed but all he knew rather than showing off maybe.
Think Simpemba was a raw young CB in the Giles Phillips mould not really helped by being in an awful team and filling in at left back.
Wow, I was only young when Adams took over and to me back then, it was exciting having him and the likes of Tyson. Looking back now, what a shambles that era was.
Every cloud though. If it wasn't for Donkey Adams, we wouldn't have our current gaffer.
Seems to be a dearth of strikers in a thread purporting to be about strikers. I’ve been trying to think of a slow striker in the current squad. Can’t think of one.
A fairly recent striker to add is Olly Taylor. I remember his full debut well, in the 3-0 defeat at Dagenham & Redbridge, which was Gareth's first game in charge. There were three other debuts that day, Jordan Archer and Josh Scowen as starts, and Junior Morias as a sub. Dwight Gayle was one of the scorers for the Daggers.
Olly is still only 29 but, after six appearances for us, and time at Hitchin, Woking, Frome, Chippenham and Dorchester, his last known club was Reading City in 2018.

John Sutton - I've seen faster-moving statues.
Did remember the old Corn circle.
Didn't we start one season off on fire, high up the league, with him racking up oodles of goals?
Paul Emblen, Andy Rammell?
Didn’t Paul Hyde play up front once.
Marlow, home, b&b. We brought him on to play up front in extra time
Not guilty! I was strictly back of the terrace, right side.
I remember the cameos of 'OOOOH TREVOR AYLOTT' well. With every minute he spent on the pitch, the price of Keith Scott went up.
What about Steve Claridge? He was no spring chicken when he arrived
Couldn't score for toffee either and when he did it was in off the shin and in off the post if I recall.

It was this game against Scunthorpe...nearly missed an open goal https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWKeHegmEG0
How did that game in the snow against Mansfield go ahead?!

@crabbie could say very much the same of Sefan Oakes.

Does anyone remember on Championship Manager, Ian Simpemba was randomly called "Ian Simpembahols"?
Sort of rings a bell actually.

Really liked Stefan Oakes, with his wonderful long crossfield passes and superb free kicks. But yes, he was pretty slow.
And his uncle was in Showaddywaddy.

It would indeed have been a tedious race between those two, what ever happened to Oakes
Not to be confused with Oily Sailor.
Went on to play 40+ games for Lincoln then a few non league before retiring about ten years ago. A beautiful passer of the ball.
Remember the Red headed Taylor in that Dagenham game.
He was extremely slow, I can only imagine Ainsworth picked him for his size. He looked way off the standard required.
He was indeed, wasn't his dad a member of Shawaddywaddy
Yes he was. His father once told him that the shoes he wore on stage were Crepe. “No dad they weren’t that bad.”
i’m fetching my coat.
would that be your long coat with velvet trim
