I think I’d keep all of the ones on the bench the other night actually and I think we may well. Not sure there’s much point getting them to the cusp of the first team and then jettisoning them and starting again.
I would imagine we may see a smaller number of established first teamers next season topped up by the development team cohort.
As mentioned by @mooneyman above football can be brutal, consider this scenario.
If Rangers stay up and we stay down (most probable outcome) Gaz will come for players he knows can deliver to his brief.
Much as we love him we love our club more. So, either we keep key players by going up, or pay them to stay or (whisper it) we hope QPR are relegated to create a more level playing field.
I hope so too as he’s got real promise. He’s struggling to get a game at Maidenhead currently but they’ve had a few good results so they’ve not changed things around.
For me the players we should be looking to keep hold of if we dont get promotion are (if we do get promoted then the ones we should keep are in bold):
Stryjek
Grimmer
Forino
Tafazolli
Obita
Scowen
Wing
Wheeler
Vokes
GMac
Hanlan
Freeman
Thompson - only if he gets a clean medical prognosis
(If we get promotion I think we can do better than Obita at LB/LWB - but if we can afford to keep him as a back up then do so; Taf is too injury prone even though he is a cracking player, Wheeler I love but we can do better in the Championship & likewise Freeman)
Of the development group I would look to keep the following
Wheels and Freeman should get renewals wherever we are next season. They might not be automatic first picks in the championship but they're both outstanding professionals who'll do whatever needs doing.
I agree wholeheartedly. That last point is great too - without their flexibility and adaptability, our midfield would have not looked so accomplished against Fleetwood sans Scowen.
I confess that in the past, as much as I like Wheels, he's never really blown me away. Until this season. He looks a championship level player in any position week in week out this year.
Not sure I'd let Taff go if we go up. He's said he wants to play in the Championship and would probably do that on the same wages to prove his worth.
Wheeler is an excellent player to have around. Could become a bit of a Wycombe legend if he sticks around.
Also shown recently how valuable Obita is. Perhaps we take his reliability for granted. Goes about his job quietly. Can you actually remember him making a mistake or having an absolute shocker?

I reckon we’ll keep Ward and Pattenden. I honestly don’t know enough about the rest to make a judgement

Like I say football can be cruel.
Leathers will undoubtedly be renewed.

Like Easter Eggs on the Tesco shelves on January the 4th, the What No New Players? Summer thread starts earlier and earlier every year.
Have you seen how young policemen are now?!
Leathers is a very polished performer
No beef from me with that opinion
Spot on as usual @Malone

I find the policewomen look even younger!

Are we sure Max is Out of Contract this year? It seems very short sighted to have signed a No. 1 keeper this season on only a 1 yr deal?

Completely agree.
Tafa is an absolute necessity for me. Excluding Scowen, he’s the one I’m most desperate to keep. The others are slightly more replaceable.
The difference between going up and staying down feels particularly pivotal this season eh?
I’d argue it was the difference between going up and staying down last season that was pivotal.
The events of this season so far illustrate that emphatically.
The loss of key players at the end of this season will just add more weight and will mark the end of an era in the history of Wycombe Wanderers.
But we will be here long after the Couhigs have gone and we will continue to support our club even if we are not challenging for promotion.
You think we'll lose all those key players regardless of which division we're in next season?
Not to mention the calibre of replacements we'd be able to bring in
Father to a murdered son. Husband to a murdered wife. I will have vengeance in this life or the next.

Fair comments @thecatwwfc
Looks a bit pasty though, he could do with getting a bit more tanned in the close season
Don’t think he’d enjoy being re-buffed!!
I was really looking at things through the prism of history and not ownership.
I’m quite hopeful some of those key players will choose to stay. I’m also hopeful Matt Bloomfield will bring in some real quality over the summer.
