I used to be more into it, but the sport has some fundamental issues that seem worse every year.
College football is easily more entertaining than the NFL.

The first time I ever went to Loakes Park was to watch a demonstration of American football put on by the Americans then stationed in Wycombe Abbey. I was very young and found it all rather mystifying. I still do.
Used to watch it regularly, but with it hopping round the channels & the ongoing issues it has on & off field I haven't watched it recently.
I used to follow the 49ers religiously - still have a floating interest but hard to stay fully invested in a sport which takes such a feeble stance on head injuries even now (among other problems).
I would also add that the recent form of the team I (sort of) followed - Chicago Bears - really hasnt helped in encouraging me to try & track decent coverage down
It was (and probably still is) a fascinating tactical game (perhaps even a sport).
I remember the original Channel 4 coverage with the peerless Gary Imlach in the early 1980s (so share @Erroll_Sims soft spot for the Bears).
I have tried to keep half an eye on it and do follow it a bit by reading reports.
Always used to make a point of getting some beers and pizza in for Super Bowl in more recent years. But that really is what it is. An excuse to eat crap and drink beer for 4 hours in front of the tv.

American football represents the pinnacle of the overly qualified "historical" stat which means absolutely nothing:

I'm really enjoying this season's NFL. And also PFT Live on Sky with Florio and Chris Simms as well as the 'Around the NFL' Podcast team.
They really are superb athletes in the NFL. Denver Broncos fans in this house (family ties). Disappointing season.
'Soft' is one word I would absolutely not use to describe American football. It's probably the most physical team sport on the planet when you factor.

NHL is the fastest most and physically taxing and technically difficult team sport on earth.
Hadn't even considered hockey. Never watched it properly.
Tbh, there's probably a case for F1 being the most physically demanding sport (it's rubbish, but it is a sport) because of the G-forces they take.
Seconded! One of the many reasons it is so good live is the absolutely unbelievable spectacle of seeing these massive human beings skate brilliantly, handle a stick brilliantly, all while trying to kill each other physically.
