Let hope that several (bigger) clubs now try to trigger it as well, they have a race to get the deal over the line with Anis having to travel to their training ground. He then gets caught in traffic and they fail to get the paperwork completed and he stays with us (until summer)
I think his performance against Oxford has probably brought Bristol City out of the woodwork and convinced them to buy. I think he still needs a lot of work but as he has shown over the last 12 months, his learning agility is phenomenal and he keeps getting better.
Who knows what he could do. My gut at the moment feels like he'll be a consistent Championship player, I'm not sure he'll be a consistent Premier League player, although he may make some appearances in the top flight. I'd be delighted if he becomes a regular in the Premier League.
£1m is not to be sniffed at and is not unreasonable for Anis. Could we get a bit more in the summer, quite possibly. Equally, he could get injured or go off the boil and we get a lot less.
Assuming the deal goes through, then I wish him all the best.
I think they also sold Assal for circa £1m this window too. Haha. Not long after they sold Rudoni for similar last season. Wimbledon have done very well in that respect recently.
If the transfer market was that logical, Darwin Nuñez wouldn't have cost more than Erling Haaland! Enzo Fernández looks like he's going to go for substantially more than Jude Bellingham eventually will, too.
Yup, lots of other factors including whatever we said to him to get him to extend and that's not just around a release fee but about him following an opportunity. If no release clause exists and only one club came in and it's £1m I'm not sure we turn that down anyway tbh.
Obviously without any clause, with a longer deal and with a bidding war we'd hope for more, but he's still one player subject to loss of form and injury and we probably aren't close enough to going up to argue he would be better off staying a bit longer.
If we take the various rumours circulating round this thread at face value (and I really don't about Max!) then you wonder whether Gareth did the club many favours by saying publicly that he would welcome bids of £5m, £6m, £7m for Anis. That might well have put some clubs off from bidding, leaving the ground clear for Bristol City to put in a £1m offer.
While I take @DevC's point about Phil Alexander not being in place at Bristol City in time to have steered their bid, I do think it's inconceivable that he wouldn't have been consulted - no-one is not going to call their incoming chief exec and ask for their advice in bidding a seven-figure sum for a player at the club he recently worked for. If Alexander knew - either directly, or from talking to former colleagues at WWFC - that no bids had been received, he could have advised Bristol City to low-bar a bid at £1m, confident there'd be no bidding war.
Anyway, all supposition and based purely on conjecture already posted on this thread.
It's the 'Window has Slammed Shut' graphic at 23.00 followed by the announcement 40 minutes later that the paperwork went through at 22.59.59 that will see me explode
It really wouldn't matter how many clubs wanted his signature. With a £1M release clause, if it exists, that's all they have to offer us for his contract. Any supposed bidding war would be in raising what they offered Anis, not us.
We picked up a young lad who’d been discarded by the professional game and found himself in non-league football.
Anis, by all accounts, worked his arse off to turn his career around, aided by the brilliant staff we have at this football club. He signed an extended contract, allowing us the pleasure of his talents for longer than we might have expected, and allowing us to get some money in return.
He’s going to a bigger club in a better division, so there’s nothing but best wishes to the lad from me. And an understanding that a league one club with attendances like ours will always be having to do this.

Agree with @bookertease . 1million shouldn't be sniffed at. That is by a distance still our record straight fee isn't it?
We've had a few in and around 750k sort of levels, but not 1m?
Sell ons have taken others beyond 1m we believe, but not as a one off fee.
Mehmeti seemed an inevitable sale early in the window, but last day would really be a kicker.
Mawson going would actually feel an even bigger kick personally,.
Again, I'm not saying there's anything dodgy about it, but it is pretty annoying. But I'll get over it!
I think Ibe was 750k rising to 1m
This would explain why it suddenly went from very quiet to ‘he’s definitely leaving’ in the space of 24hrs.
Call it delusional hope but I’m still not convinced about the £1mil release clause.

of course we should wish him well , he is an incredible talent, just wish our so called business people had more about them....
For those who are interested in the money. Bristol City are also trying sign AFC Wimbledon left-back Jack Currie today.
The rumoured fee is £1m.
Currie is 20, has made 25 League Two appearances, scoring one goal.
By comparison, Anis Mehmeti has made 88 league appearances (59 in League One, 29 in the Championship) and has scored 19 goals.
Is goals scored by defenders the primary driver of their value?
Good for Wimbledon though if that deal comes off - not sure there are many seven figure deals from the lower divisions. Or are there??
Wimbledon just sold Ayoub Assal for £1million too.

There is more chance Mawson announces his retirement than leaving to another club. His knee is in bits!

I look forward to your forthcoming campaign to join the Trust and Football Club board.
There’s a real shortage of anonymous carpers.
They put humpty dumpy back together again!
It was less than that. £500k was the figure mentioned a lot at the time. I'm sure there would have been add ons too, as you say.
Until Uche, Tyson remained our biggest transfer sale at around the £600k mark.

Mehmeti countdown now at 10 hours... we're still in this
If it is announced at 22.59 I might self combust.
I’m not sure football clubs are put off looking at players where silly numbers have been mentioned…
We did once say we wouldn’t sell Miguel de Souza for a million…

BFP reporting that rumours of Max and Mawson leaving are wide of the mark

Are you the guy who kept saying he was finished, then disappeared as he didn't miss a game in the first half of the season?
Internet says Tyson 675k and Ibe 750k
