I agree with this. I felt Rob was backtracking on the ‘We are budgeting for a £3m loss’ line in his recent interview with Phil. It was more like, ‘We have plans to spend £3m including ground improvements and a new road and we are looking for funding to help with that’. The actual accounting loss may be much less than that this year.
How about an out of favour elsewhere loan striker to replace AAH?
Forest could lend us Lyle Taylor for example but there must be loads more like him around who want to play some football and are not even bench warming in the Championship or higher?
A player like Lyle Taylor would see an outlay of more than Vokes. So a strong no for me. Giving Mellor and TJ at least some minutes would be something. We have a great target man in Vokes and a powerful quick striker in Hanlan. So that’s the best of both for me. A buzzing irritant to complement that in the form of TJ works too. We just need to work a system that allows the best from what we have, which is still the best we’ve ever had.
I’m not suggesting we pay Lyle Taylor’s crazy wages but with no TJ in sight and few goals from Kaikai, Vokes and Hanlan we do need to score more, and a loanee could be the answer. Players like Taylor will be available and what to go in the shop window to attract attention.
Good point on system @TheAndyGrahamFanClub, I liked it when we played McCleary, Mehmeti and Horgan in behind Vokes. We would probably have to play a back 4 to accommodate 3 attacking mids?
If we want to stay in the playoff hunt, we need to sign at least one striker. Vokes 3 in 21 league games and Hanlan 1 in 14 is unfortunately is not enough for the main target man.
Our attacking output is mid-table. Vokes' finishing has been sub-par, but he wouldn't have had many more goals at his best - he's had F all to work with, and Hanlan even less so. We undoubtedly need to add depth at centre-forward, but Vokes and Hanlan themselves aren't the primary issue in that department.
I don't think it's a personnel problem up front, it's a rigid lack of imagination. We have one way of trying to score goals and we keep doing that regardless of whether it's working or not, and regardless of whether it suits the striker we have on the pitch.
In theory if Anis is marked out of the game this should create space for others to take advantage of. Getting to the goal line with a sharp cut back into the 6 yard bid I’d what Voakes thrives on, would like to believe Kaikai could supply this?
They may well have been well organised at the back but we also lacked creativity and imagination. Can’t see us making the playoffs without any new striking options.
We certainly put plenty of effort in and most teams find us very hard to beat, which is a massive plus but we failed to really hurt Wednesday at all.
Although the afore mentioned young development squad lads could very well prove to be good league 1 players, they are not ready right now and we need someone new up front to give us different options.

Sorry Eric.... that wasn't very nice on my part
It was horrible to be honest. Totally uncalled for. You’re much better than that.
I like Macca. Always puts his heart and soul into the game and is very difficult to stop when he is in full flow.
Exhibit A: just now.
Keep it up, Tom.
I didn’t want to say anything but……..
Was going to say that's a bit harsh pal, but then clocked who you aimed this at and I think you speak for a lot of us. 😉
Christ knows what I've said in the past to upset you so much. It's a bit weird
Don't worry about it, I hadn't even read it to be honest.
As for being a miserable old c#nt, I would argue that I'm not miserable
POTD wrapped up by Eric there.
Good response @eric_plant
Didn't like to say but can the first part of this be true without the second and third?
Getting back to the January Transfer window.

It’s beyond doubt that we should sign a striker. Whether we will or not is a different matter.
Given that we are mid Jan and our two main strikers have three between them I would have to agree.
Is he only not going back to Charlton because he sulked on the way out of there? Might not pass the character test that one but undoubtedly talented.
We certainly my need another striker if we are serious about contesting the play-offs.
Lyle Taylor is a complete wanker. That odious little shitbag would ruin our renowned dressing room spirit in minutes.
Beat me to it

I see what you're saying, but we also have Anis who can create something from very little
Absolutely, but when he gets marked out of the game we don't really have anything else. I thought the owls did a superb job on him at the weekend.

They were absolutely outstanding. So well organised
