Moving Horgan on (assuming Stevenage are paying 100% of his wages) will have freed up a chunk of change for sure. Whether it is wise to replace a highly paid player with a highly paid player is another thing
I always get quite sickened when a team has to pay the wages of a player that is no longer on their books and never likely to be again. Effectively says we will pay for you not to play for us.
I don't think he'll ever play for us again - you can't put a recall clause in a half-season loan, and they can only be terminated early at the league's discretion. Stevenage's season could finish before ours, but he wouldn't be eligible to play in the play-offs for us.
This line of debate does bring up an interesting thought - if you could choose a Wycombe player to score the clinching goal to take us up, who would you choose?
It kind of says we aren't prepared to pay you up. Paying up and sending on their way is a bit of cleaner break but someone has to find a lump sum and there's a bit less security for the player maybe.
You'd presumably be even more sickened if you were made unemployed just because your direct line manager woke up and thought on any given day that the guy at the next desk could do your job better. Football is far too subjective for any normal behaviour
It's certainly a life full of ups and downs isn't it.
Faced with having to move 100s of miles for whichever club particularly fancies you at any moment.
Your fitness totally determines your future.
At any time management can change, and you can go from a favourite of the manager who brought you the possible 100s of miles to that club, to someone who doesn't rate you at all.
That I believe is impossible because of tax laws. My brother in law had a testimonial 13 years ago and the rules on these things are endless.
Edit : It seems the laws around testimonials changed considerably in 2017. A testimonial is not just a single game but 12 months worth of events. I recall playing in the Golf event with Marcus Bean and Simon Moore mid season.

Off (back) to Charlton supposedly.
"There is likely to be significant League One interest "
That'll likely rule us out, I'm not sure I have a problem with that if we continue to get value elsewhere.

Would be surprised if Evans is paying all of Horges reportedly considerable wages?
Yup, quite a large assumption.

Cue Horgan scoring the winner in the Play Off Final against Ipswich.

Max Strjek (spelling?) from a corner in the 35th minute of extra time would be quite pleasing.
@drcongo how about Christie Ward in the dying moments with his second cameo appearance of the season? #prouddad
JJ. 99th minute (it is us) penalty. He scores. Doffs his cap and says thank you, and good night. A fitting tribute to one of life's good guys.
Can Ainsworth declare himself a player manager if there's a space in the squad?

TJay against Plymouth would be quite a story but it has to be JJ for his 9 years of brilliance.
Would be amazing if he managed another season and we had the opportunity to give him a testimonial.
I was amazed to realise Nick Freeman is now in his seventh year with us.
We should really give JJ a testimonial anyway

Totally agree

Obviously a bit previous to start planning JJ’s possible testimonial right now, but just hoping if he does get one, he picks the opposition carefully…

But then surely it makes no difference when you do it?
Completely disagree. You can't give a testimonial to a player that's only been at a club 9 years
Definitely.
These days it's even harder to stay for the traditional 10 years, so should definitely be a discretionary job.
Though I still wouldn't rule him out of staying for a 10th year as cover.
Just call it a tribute game, or a "sign off" game then. It doesn't have to have a year of events surely, there can't be a rule about it.
Am I right in thinking Matt Crossley had a testimonial year, but not actually the game?
One of the most miserable posts in gasroom history.
Would completely devalue the concept.
I reckon he'd agree as well
Players have had testimonials after less than 10 years before - it's not enshrined in law
It ought to be enshrined in law
