When Gareth says to Phil later ‘lot of positives to take from today’ I would like the next question to be ‘name 2’.
A terrible performance. As a team we are clueless. No threat. No cohesion. Just lumping the ball forward is not a tactic it is madness. If Gareth is telling them to do that then he needs to take a look at himself. If he’s not then he’s lost the dressing room.
When we even lump it to Vokes we don't get players near enough to make it count. Amazing how we managed to play with no supporting or covering midfield
What is the opposite of clutch/good under pressure/belief in tough circumstances? Whatever that word is, it applies to us perhaps more than any team I have ever seen.
If we trail in the second half, you can write "game over" in your notebook at that exact moment, knowing we will definitely lose. What happened to running through brick walls and not knowing when we are beaten? It's that limp, pathetic shuffle to defeat that is more upsetting than the defeat itself.
Yep. Easy in the bleak finish to forget that the first 10-15 were very promising. But then it just dropped off a cliff.
It feels a bit like the end of that season we were knocking it long to Thompson and Hayes and then brought a lot of attackers in that next summer. We need a bit of a rethink all round too.
I know what you mean but I think it’s more or less what one might expect if one gave a Strad to a highly-skilled and conscientious lumberjack.
To describe that performance as disappointing would not do it justice. I’m mindful both that I’m not 100% well today and that it’s November - a month I would gladly sacrifice 1/12 of my remaining lifespan to remove from my life - both of which facts predispose me to be maudlin, but that was rubbish. We lost to a no-better-than-average team (and again, well done, them) and we weren’t remotely unlucky. Am fighting hard not to slip into an “is this what we get for running at a £3 million a year deficit?” attitude towards the playing and coaching staff but the thought has raised its head in my mind and that’s an unwelcome first.
Absolutely shambles. Football is dreadful. We have had a reasonably easy run of fixtures and should have achieved a lot more points. No doubt Ainsworth will serve up the normal drivel, really proud of the boys, only just outside of the playoffs, like coming in under the radar. Not good enough with the quality we have this season. Hopefully the harder fixtures , will raise our performances.
Why oh why do we keep playing Vokes as a target man he rarely wins anything and was a non entity today lets start playing football with the likes of HANLAN forget the target man kick and run f and play football !!!!!
That was terrible. Nothing to take from that performance. Promising opening, but we followed up with 80mins of aimless long balls and very little urgency. Dreadful match!
At least he could receive a long pass and hold on to it, back to goal, sometimes making a decent pass and, as you say, winning a few free kicks per game.
Of course I’m not comparing him with any current striker.
I'll give you that. I think I meant to assert that we got no more bad luck than our performance deserved. Our perspective of the team we follow is all about the framing we bring to it, isn't it. Along with the vast majority of us here, I've always tended (and always tend in other aspects of life, too) to make generous assessments of the character of our players and coaches. A proper assessment would continue to do so, wouldn't it. I simply record that it is beginning to occur to me that I might view things differently. I don't imagine that that will happen. But the thought is an unwelcome one.
Vokes looks poor at the moment. Just doesn’t look like scoring and barely contributing to team play. I know our crossing is abysmal but he is not at the races at the moment. If we are to improve Ainsworth needs to get Vokes, motivated and firing.
Playing with a target man doesn’t mean we have to keep lumping it up to him. He wasn’t winning much in the air and his team mates couldn’t keep up with the play. How about play it to his feet, let him control the ball, let him bring others into play.
Minor point about the goal aside, your general point is correct - it was a game utterly lacking in quality. But I thought from both sides. Just that they'd jammed a goal.
We certainly don't look like we'll come back with a storming finish like we used to.
And someone utterly nailed it a few weeks ago saying for the first time under Gaz the overall team is weaker than the ability of the individuals.

That was a good first 10 minutes and a depressing 86 to follow.

Dreadful. Dreadful. Dreadful.
Would love a game against this Wycombe side. Gasroom XI vs Wycombe on The Rye anyone?

3 million in debt for this? What does 6 million in debt buy us next season? Relegation?
Thank god i didn't pay £10 to watch in what was apparantly a shit show from us.
Yep, he's backed himself right into a corner there. Stupid.
Well, what a load of rubbish that was . We’re carrying too many players as passengers.

Paid £10, but am glad I didn't pay closer to £30 and spent 3hours travelling for it.

I would have a healthy Alex Samuel back in a heartbeat right now - at least we would win some free kicks around the area!
Weren't remotely unlucky? The way their winner deflected in was pretty unlucky I thought.
Aside from that it was the most blatant 0-0 game between 2 crap teams you'll see.
"Credit to Cheltenham - they passed to players with the same shirt, which was a clever tactic." Just guessing at the interview quotes later.
Blimming heck pal, we're all disappointed, but let's not get too silly.
Only 5 points off the playoffs!
(Spends rest of the evening with a loaded gun in mouth)

Abject?
I’m with @Shev we got promoted to the championship with Alex Samuel in the side. You could never doubt his desire.
'Wycombe'
I don't want to get into a game of slating a guy who made a decent contribution to the cause, plus a top guy to boot.
But he actually played in fewer than half the league games that season, scoring 1 league goal!

On a lighter note, I'll point out that the curse of >50% possession has struck again, according to the stats on the BBC. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/63606245
