We don't get awarded a penalty in almost a year, and promptly miss it. It does beg the question though - what should the penalty taking order be after JJ? I would go for the following:
I’ve always just found it a little odd when teams ask midfielders/defenders to take a penalty.
Your striker is there to primarily score goals - surely with a free shot at goal from 12 yards they’d be the best option.
JJ isn’t bad but he has missed several in the past few seasons. Could never understand why he generally took them over Bayo, who seemed to score every time.
Not a conventional striker by any means, but he played up front for years at Southampton.
i used to love watching him play. His apparent lack of fitness and effort could be frustrating but he was audacious and would try things no other player would.
More on the fine line of attacking mid / number 10 than a striker.
But then Lampard and Gerrard were more attacking mids. If we're getting picky.
Heard Le Tissier on a podcast the other day, primarily talking about his general covid denial and suchlike stuff. But also talking about his pens. He dismissed Shearer as "missing a lot".
Haven't looked up what Shearer's pen percentage was if any stats guys can confirm.
Le Tiss used to go wherever he liked in some often dreadful Southampton teams. He was never a target man but probably more of a striker than a midfielder.

McCarthy?
Love Jason, but his deliveries seem to have declined in quality, so I would not necessarily have as much confidence as the three referenced.
Wing's pen in the Posh shootout was a weapon of mass destruction.
I reckon Max takes a hell of a pen
Must admit, I was calling for Wing to take it. I kind of predicted that Brandon would not score. 🙄
Probably hit it 30 yards into the air like his crosses
Stupid question, what’s wrong with Vokes?
Surely as senior striker he should take it.
Knew Hanlan was going to miss when I saw one of our own gasroomers with his phone out filming it in expectation.😑
Not is bad shout - my own opinion was based on seeing him a little more as a heading specialist.

Pretty sure this would have been decided on the training ground where they see it in person. You win some, you lose some.
Missed his last two for Stoke.
According to statistics, midfielders seem to have the best record of scoring penalties
Matt le Tissier 48 scored 98 % success rate
Frank Lampard 52 scored 93% success rate
Steven Gerrard 24 scored 92% success rate
Matt le Tissier was a striker, not a midfielder.
He wasn't.
Or was he...? 🤔
He was never a striker, in some ways similar to our own Messi.

I’d say more of a midfielder than a striker. Great player, shame he’s proven himself to be a fool.
Fool is an unbelievably polite term to use there.
Probably my favourite ever non-Wycombe player.
It's been pretty difficult to witness his public utterances in recent years, to say the least.

Shearer scored 56/67. Yaya Toure the only PL player with 100% conversion rate from 10+ taken. Only three of the 10 most successful PL pen takers are/were strikers. https://theanalyst.com/eu/2022/10/best-penalty-takers-in-the-premier-league/
Ivan Toney has been fantastic for Brentford in that area.
Oh, he's outrageous. 100% for them. I reckon he's the best taker I've ever seen.
You can bet on him !!

Probably shouldn't try and sum up what he is now.
It may well be that whenever I saw Southampton on MotD he was in or around the box conjuring up some magic.
Either way, it’s not as clear cut as I obviously thought it was!
He had one season where he was basically holding his own goals of the season campaign.
