I don't think he's used this exact phrase for a while, but Gaz mentioned towards the back end of our Champ season that we were undergoing a "slow evolution" in style - and... that's never really materialised save for the odd match here and there, has it? We've got so many good technical players (from Vokeys right back to Taf and Alfie); we should be playing a more possession-based game imo. Imagine the levels we'd get out of Anis then π€€
Gape is working his socks off but is having to do the job of 3 men in midfield as Horgan & Wing have largely been anonymous. Vokes is having to bolster the defence & then try to get up front which would work if we didnt revert to hoof ball as often as we have.
Overall we are just not at the races, with the side looking very unbalanced, slow/almost lethargic & what appears to be a lack of communication going on.
I am one of life's optimists but even I am struggling to find positives today.
I just don't get Wing at all. I've never seen him make a tackle - I guess he's just there on the off-chance that he scores a long range goal or two because he does nothing else. It's like playing with ten men.
Really sad, but it looks like this has to be his last season. Won't change how he's seen overall, but he seems to have made more errors this year so far, than the previous x years.
I think we have left sided problems either way. I think Obita is pretty consistent, but much better going forward than defending - I would almost rather use him as a left winger than have him as the primary option at LB or LWB.
I agree with the pre-season sentiment, it was a real shambles. We also lost out in the transfer market by spending so much time trying to get the Man U keeper in. All-in-all the preparation for this season was non league at best. One shining light though is Anis Mehmeti who once again showed pure genius the way he set up our goal.
Well to beat the dead horse, we have 0 points from losing positions so far this season, so if we could somehow rescue even a point that would be a significant step. I just always feel like we are toast if we are behind nowadays. I would love to be proven wrong so very much (wrong? moi?).
I think I am right in saying we have not had the opportunity to play our strongest 11 all season, especially given Alfie and Stryjek did not arrive till a few games in, at which point Vokes was out, and Scowen was out as Vokes came back?

Yep, there's some utterly unforgivable stuff, and conceding from your own free kick miles up the pitch is one.
Grimmer isn't coming close to stopping the crosses.
Great servant for the club but this season seems one too far for JJ. Need an improved performance in the second half otherwise could be a thumping.

If only my guesses were as good for the attendance prediction league!

You know we pressed our buzzers at the same time and the tiebreaker was to rank alphabetically...
Spot on @Erroll_Sims
He started really well for us when he came in, and gave us something different alongside Scowen, a bit more control, passing ability, and shooting.
But without Scowen he seems to lose something, and arguably hasn't been good since the red card.

This game is crying out for a couple of halftime substitutions. Freeman for Wing or Horgs for starters.
We donβt look great. Totally overrun again. And only a moment of brilliance from Mehmeti to make it a contest.
Putting it politely - he lacks physicality (and does little else).

I think you may have been right with your rock bottom assessment earlier!
Whereas I had no worries after the first goal, the way we came back in, it's looking difficult without some major gamechanger.
I'd probably take McCarthy out of the centre mid for now, maybe switch with Grimmer, and then get Freeman on in there.
Horgan I have always slightly struggled with, he has a lot of this sort of game.
Probably one of these who suits a higher tier of football.
However, I defy anyone to say Horgan did better than him that half.

KaiKai looked impressive when he came on as a sub at Stevenage. Replacing Wing or Hanlan?

Hanlan?
Probably not Hanlan, as he's not playing π
Since we can make five Iβd do three at HT,
Obita for JJ
Freeman and Kaikai for Horgan and Wing.
Maybe we will come out second half all guns blazing and win 3-2.
Would be slightly worrying if we hadn't had Mehmeti's goals this season.
We won't have a tougher away double up than Derby and Sheff Wed back to back though.
Games will ease, and players will be back. Just have to keep the faith.
McCleary back next game etc
Good to have you back π
I actually think that is when our season will turn - the first time we come back on someone and revive the Close Quarters spirit.
Great to see you back Tom ππ

I love how Mehmeti's shots are almost always on target. He makes the keeper work.
