So glad someone else is bringing this up. Found it really hard to see the other end from the terrace on Tuesday night. Really hope that there is a solution to be found.
With all these people less confident in the situation than @DevC talking about their huge business energy bills (one going from 13,000 a year to 70,000) and potentially going out of business.
I hope Rob fixed our contracts at a good rate, as I am not sure in the upcoming s***storm our new PM will have saving football clubs high on her agenda. (I would like to think she did a Johnson swerve away from a potentially difficult interview with a journalist so she could apply her mind to it.)
Floodlighting is not a huge cost - even with multiple increases in energy. The problem is everything else - including other lighting. Changing the times is not going to change that much with a crowd of thousands which would require lots of lighting even with a 11am winter kick off. At an Isthmian League level the lighting is a more major factor with a crowd of a few hundred paying less than a tenner and at most one clubhouse bar indoors.
It's a sensible idea and with the current climate, Football / Rugby and others need to be thinking about what they can do. I know for Premier League and Championship, their hands are tied by TV Rights and Goal-Line technology but for everyone else should look into this
Just watching one of those old football highlights shows on ITV4
this one shows two games from January 1982 when the country was apparently in the middle of a big freeze.
Not many games are on but they’re showing an Oldham Watford match. Apparently Oldham even in those days had the advantage of undersoil heating.
If we were to get a cold snap this winter and had to put on ours for three or four days before the game shudder to think what the cost of that might be.
Most non-league clubs still use halogen floodlights, LED are more expensive to buy, and it seems you need more LED units for the same Halogen output. LED have a longer life span and have lower running costs. I found this on the Vorlane site, a leading LED manufacturer.
"The cost of running an LED bulb ranges from 7-20 watts per hour, while an equivalent halogen bulb uses 35 to 500 watts per hour to emit the same amount of light, so LED bulbs are more economical to run."
To be fair to Ms Truss if I did wish to abolish the monarchy (and to be fair I do) one option (not my preferred choice admittedly) would be to make the kingdom so worthless that no one in their right minds would wish to reign over it.
Someone on Twitter mocked up a map of how the UK would be partitioned if we just collapsed as a country (as if we haven't already) and got invaded by our continental neighbours. I'm all for becoming French at this point, tbh.

Please, do not panic. Liz Truss will ensure our great National Stadium can move it's roof.
I understand it is a dual fuel motor - also runs on British grit and determination, whatever that is.

Has anyone sent anything to the club ?

You're right of course @SolR the problem is energy costs across the business even if the water in the loos is not heated!
Looks like this idea is being seriously considered.

Apparently Mansfield are switching a game next month to 1pm on a Saturday to save on floodlight costs.

Liz who? We're in economic crisis, war in europe, prices are going through the roof and our pm is nowhere to be seen.
She has gone from Thick Lizzie to Cowardly Lizzie. The end of the Nasty party's reign can't come quick enough.
Thin Lizzie more like it. Don’t believe a word.
The URL makes that sound like a much more exciting article: 'Football clubs consider lunchtime'
Didn't Oldham get a plastic pitch not long after then?

The abolish the monarchy quote, then sucking up to the monarchy was a hilarious combo.
Though I dare say we'd all hate it if videos were dug out of what we said when we were 20-30 years younger.

Well Charles III is the rightful king of most of France so...
Back on Twitter then @ReturnToSenda ? Good luck
