Pretty sure we'll see JJ & Horgan back in for Bristol City and I'm equally sure Freeman will make a start. Perhaps AAH up front and by the sounds of it Japer Pattenden did well at Northampton so may well feature. McCarthy will probably come in for Grimmer. I'd think Stryjek will remain in goal, as he'll need minutes.
I guess our options are somewhat limited by the injuries, we'll need to be fielding a decent XI though, as Bristol City fielded a strong team in their 1st round match.
He's just played 90mins twice in half a week which is great to see.
Probably wisest to save him for the weekend, although if anything it's Forino who looks like he's taken a knock in the last two.
But if he's fir you could probably play JJ-Forino, or even put Wakeley in there, although he looked shaky in the Northampton game. Though that could have been due to being the left sided of a 3, probably an unfamiliar role.
Yes I’d give Wakely another go. We’re only going to find out if he’s good enough to be 4th choice centre half (or better) by getting him out there playing.
Give him 90 mins on Wednesday and next Tuesday against Spurs U21 and we’ll know a fair bit more about him.
Wakely and Forino or Grimmer for me with Jason McCarthy getting a start at RB.
Gut feel is Wakeley won't break through but we need to be sure.
This is where we bow to the coaching team's knowledge and judgement, as in fairness if he plays the next 2 cup games, they're both slightly out of the ordinary.
One against a higher league team, and one a prem team's kids,
All about opinions, as maybe I was wrong on Jaspar who most people thought was brilliant there. Despite horribly skewing the clearance that led to JJ's emergency challenge to give the pen away, plus giving a few cynical fouls away too.
I thought Wakeley was shaky. Rugby tackled their man on one occasional, and particularly secure.
There were at least a couple of times he got confused and was run through but he's learning, seems likely the only decision is wether some players will benefit more from more games or a rest. If we play a relatively strong team we'll give it a good go and if not the youngsters will get more game time. No lose really, even if we lose :) No new injuries has to be main target.
@micra - for some reason we only get League and Papa John's games streamed. Hopefully that changes in the future - it would be really nice to be able to catch these League Cup matches!
That 3rd goal was an absolute joy - Scowen's round the corner pass to Al-Hamadi was exquisite, Ali's quick lay-off to Wing discombobulated their defence, and then Lewis' nifty footwork to tee up Freeman was also splendid. Wingy had a great 2nd half.
Glad someone else noticed that, Scowen was different level Saturday - it was the start of what for me was the best goal of the match, which is saying a lot...
Two things i'm enjoying about Gape's goal today. 1) the way the crowd noise changes as the ball drops over the keeper's head. 2) GMac leathering the ball hgh into the empty stand behind the goal.
Strange as it may seem...after a grim week or so on the Gasroom, going out, not checking the results and just getting back to see that score line (before I even saw the excellent goals) was one of the highlights of the season so far for me!
The match Rewind on the website says Wanderers TV subscription required...but I just watched it. It's like a faulty ATM, get in there quickly before the Feds pounce! 😊

Currently watching Bristol City - Cardiff and I'm still rattled by Dan Bentley from 2015 (great GK shirt, though)
I wouldn't be risking Mawson in the league cup. We need to look after him
For Bristol City. Stryjek, McCarthy, Forino, JJ, Obita, Gape, Young, Freeman, Horgan, Wing, AAH.
Bench: Dickinson, Grimmer Pattendon, Scowen, Wheeler, Mehmeti, Mellor/De Barr (if available)
Just noticed Mawson’s pass for the opening goal. He’s going to be special when he reaches peak fitness and it’s difficult not to get a little excited.
Check out Scowen’s pass forward for the start of the move that led to the Freeman goal, it’s outrageous.

Wakely was fine at Northampton. We only looked at all shaky once we'd subbed off all the centre backs.

Would be nice to win and bank a decent tie in the 3rd round though. But as always the league has to be the main focus.
I'm just looking forward to a 20min trip home instead of the 4 1/2 hour one from Northampton!
Worst trip home I can remember in many a year!
To think of my glee at effortlessly heading out from that car park across the road for a speedy exit too!
Looks like he might be under contract until January at least. We willing to pay or a fee or should we look elsewhere? Russell Grant may be free.

RTS has asked that I started spelling Wakely correctly :)
In fairness, he's hardly featured to notice the spelling.
This isn't an Allsop, Kashket thing. Honest!
For Bristol I would keep faith with the same side that beat Northampton with the exception of Max Stryjek if he thinks he needs more game time.
Keep the keeper in for sure.
Dickinson has the Checkatrade games to get more experience in.
i really like the look of that starting lineup. Some quality subs too.
Anyone know if it’s being streamed?

Yes it was a great goal and my favourite of the three amazing goals. Fantastic team effort all round.
That Sunderland reject is certainly not doing too badly is he?
Assuming it's in reverse order, Gape has got the EFL goal of the week:

For me there are two things that make it sensational.
Firstly, the ball does not bounce before hitting the back of the net. Aesthetically, this is very important.
Secondly, the keeper ends up in an absolute heap in the back of the net.
These two factors make it perfect

Don't alert the authorities to the glitch!
Chuckled at this, but yes, it's the most perfect of long range lobs.
